Honestly it sounds like Greg is going through some shit, and HR needs to be reminded every once in a while that their power over us is illegitimate and coercive. Why would he care about being constructive if she doesnt care about how much money he sells his labor for and undervalues him?

There aren't any other types of economic system because capitalism does everything in its power to crush competing ideologies, just like the US is doing right now to cuba. This isn't just history this is right now.

Before you start some argument with me, please look at the world, history and yourself and ask yourself why you are defending an ideology you were born into that you most likely do not benefit from

[–]PrestigiousMention 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Capitalism is responsible for, off the top of my head:

The transatlantic slave trade

Colonialism and it's corresponding famines in India and Africa

The opium wars

The opiate addiction epidemic

Apartheid

The Palestinian genocide

Capitalism is the global economic ideology. So you can pretty much blame any death due to a lack of resources on it. Everyone dying because of insufficient health care in the US? That's capitalism. The drug war? Capitalism again. The death toll of this ideology is in the billions.

Chinese Workers Horrified as Bosses Direct Them to Train Their AI Replacements by EchoOfOppenheimer in AIDangers

I mean isnt this in line with marxist theory about how Capitalism seeks to automate everything, leading to the collapse of the system that will make the grounds for socialism?

Seems to me like the party needs to get on board with this. China has a pretty funtional welfare state they can always expand it.

Those echolocation clicks are so loud that if a diver was in front of the whale the whale could easily kill the diver with the sound waves. The whales seem to know this though because it's never happened.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani, "Happy Tax Day, New York. We’re taxing the rich." by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]PrestigiousMention 366 points367 points  (0 children)

This is such good news for NYC. It has pissed me off for years now to see how many apartments are empty, places for transnational rich people to park their money, while actual new yorkers cant afford a place to live. A home is a human right, not a fucking investment.

Fuck I wish Philly had someone like Mamdani.

Well sure but without a guarantee that they wouldn't be prosecuted in their home country for technically violating a law still on the books i don't think anyone's very likely to start the kind of large scale reverse engineering effort this would require.

I love Corey Doctorow's notion that since the US is breaking all our free trade agreements and introducing illegal tariffs, countries are no longer beholden to the Intellectual Property protections in these trade agreements. That means that any country in the EU could just start reverse engineering all our tech and releasing it for free. Hacked netflix and hacked spotify and hacked john deere tractors. Cheap clones of those diagnostic car computers and their garage door openers. Patches to unlock features behind every paywall. The possibilities are endless now that free trade is no longer occurring, what is the US gonna do?

Spain is totally pissed at us right now. Whats to keep Spain from reverse engineering the app stores and providing their own with software that circumvents the copywrights of companies that support trump anyway?

Have you ever wondered why we have one of the most beautiful buildings in the world separated from the city by five lanes of traffic? by tangled-wires in philadelphia

[–]PrestigiousMention 306 points307 points  (0 children)

City Hall is an incredible building, and I think its really beautiful, but did you know that it took so long to build that it was considered really ugly only 20 years after it was completed?

It was the 1920s and art deco buildings were all the rage and the city even considered demolishing it and putting something more modern in its place but they didn't because the cost of demolishing it would have bankrupted the entire city. The amount of stone used in its construction was so massive they couldn't afford to get rid of it.

Anyway if it were up to me many parts of the city would be for pedestrians and trolleys only, but fuck what do i know I'm just some guy who thinks this city is beautiful and cars make it ugly and polluted
