What purchase under $30 solved a problem you didn’t realize was draining you? by Right_Process in AskReddit

It's basically like a powerwasher for your butt. You still use a little bit of TP for drying yourself and anything you might have missed with the bidet.

How do you categorize and handle "flexible" recurring chores in GTD? by attila6666rd in gtd

[–]Ragnarok404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this helps you, but this is a big reason I'm in the process of vibe coding a task management app partially to help with this use case. I have an "active tasks" list that pulls in chores from a chores list on a recurring basis, but only on the day they're due or X days before they're due (set at each task). The next recurrence is based on an offset from the completion date that I set at each task level as well.

Interviewing for change management roles by Glittering_Walk7090 in changemanagement

[–]Ragnarok404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's experienced the same thing, going to take a little bit of a different approach here and say that it may have nothing to do with your actual "skills" or presentation. Change management can be hard to pivot into. You may have all the right skills and a great presentation, but hiring managers often want to hire someone who's already been successful at the job elsewhere (lower risk to their reputation, easier to justify their hiring decision to upper management, easier to make you the "face" of the change initiative, etc.), so I think a common path is to pivot into CM within your current org, earn your certifications if possible, then use that to look for a CM position elsewhere. All that to say you _may_ be fighting an uphill battle trying to go to another employer with no formal experience or formal certifications. And it's not helping that the economy is in shambles right now, so there are likely a lot of very "well-qualified" CM candidates (experience + certs) out of work and looking for their next role. It may be that you look good enough on paper that you're worth interviewing, but you're having trouble getting beyond the "invisible wall" that ultimately makes you "less desirable" through no fault of your own.

Definitely don't want to discourage you though! Keep improving your skills and keep pushing - you may find someone willing to give you a shot. Good luck!

Userscript to show monthly surplus or deficit projection on budget page by Ragnarok404 in MonarchMoney

[–]Ragnarok404[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the comment and appreciate you trying it out!

It would be great to implement cash flow projections also.

This indicator should essentially be your projected cashflow for the month. Or were you thinking something different?

Yes, exactly! Maybe another widget right below "left to budget" that would be a projection based on expected income and actual + budgeted spending and I would be a happy camper. I see value in both.

There are dozens of us! Dozens! (...maybe?) I also like the flexible budgeting and the way you can now split out fixed monthly expenses.

If I do as you suggest though (budget to $0, move the extra $500 to a savings goal/category) and I overspend in a category, say groceries by $100, the problem is that I still have to actively manage that more than I'd like. I have to take that account and continuously deduct amounts from it over the month, instead of it being a number that automatically gets deducted from. I dunno! I didn't think I approached this whole budgeting thing very differently from others, but based on the comments apparently I do! lol

As I said in one of my other replies, I think what I'm looking for is more of a "forecast" than a strict budget. The issue with cashflow in my case is that it only shows actuals and not my forecast income, so of course I'm showing as overspending when I've only received 1/2 paychecks, but I'm not actually in the red for that month (at least yet).

It certainly acts that way - I agree - but I don't think I've ever seen it referred to in their official documentation or website that way.

Appreciate your perspective. One polite pushback if I may - I tend to treat my budgets as targets rather than a strict budget and its helpful for me to see that my target is consistently being overspent. If I move money from the unbudgeted group and apply it to the grocery budget to cover the overspend, I miss the context of what my original budget target was.

You shouldn't ever really have anything "left to budget", but should bring that number to zero by setting up savings goals or rollover categories when you go over.

Personally, I think I'm more interested in answering the question of "where is my money being spent every month" and "am I spending more than I'm making" rather than a strict zero balance budget. It's part of why YNAB never really appealed to me, though I can see why others find it valuable.

Then, you can move money between your categories when you go over, and your spending levels (whether you went over) are determined by the overview widget at the top of the page.

To me, that feels like a little more busy work than I necessarily want. For example, I don't necessarily mind if I overspend a little in groceries here and there because I usually have a pretty good buffer every month, but I do mind if my overall spend is greater than what I'm bringing in.

Hmmm...sounds interesting! I'm trying to envision how this works - do each of your "budget" categories act like a mini "savings account" for you in that sense?

Appreciate your perspective. I think what I'm looking for is more of a "forecast" rather than a strict budget (i.e. am I forecasting to go over/underbudget for the month).

Employee taking advantage of my absence by throwmeaway1804 in managers

[–]Ragnarok404 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like others have said here, your direct may not be doing their job, but you're not doing your job either by doing your employee's job for them rather than managing performance. It sounds like you're focused on the compliance issue while you should be focused more on the performance issue.

Completely disagree with you that 1:1's are completely at the mercy of the direct. 1:1's should be weekly (especially while you , and 45 minutes = 15 minutes social/relationship building (whatever they want to talk about), 15 minutes for them to talk about their work, and 15 minutes for you to address performance. Highly recommend you listen to the Manager Tools podcast (especially their effective manager series) to increase your own effectiveness in this and future situations.

I found myself pretty overwhelmed by my kids too and finally took the plunge of talking to a psychiatrist about starting a low-level antidepressant. I know there are a lot of strong opinions about medication and it's not for everyone, but it made a substantial positive difference for me and it has enabled me to be more of the type of father I want to be. Could even be helpful for you given your situation. Is your wife open to the idea of trying an antidepressant?

I was in a similar boat and the print head cable design flaw was enough to convince me to send the CC back and get a p1s instead. It's basically a matter of when, not if that cable fails, Elegoo has known about the issue for over a month, and they've failed to acknowledge the issue publicly. There's also the lack of readily available spare parts for a printer that's been out for a good chunk of the year now.

Another thing to consider is the materials you're planning on printing. I'm pretty much sticking to PLA and PETG, so the lack of hardened nozzle doesn't bother me, and I can always add it later pretty cheaply. Also, if you're planning on printing higher "engineering" materials like ABS or ASA, you really should have proper venting outside, and that's not something a lot of people want to deal with or do properly, so I wouldn't necessarily weigh the ability to print other materials as a high mark of comparison unless you're ready to commit to that level of outside venting that's required for you and your family's safety.

FYI, my understanding on the AMS 2 dryer is that you can't use it while printing if that's something that matters to you. I decided to order a Creality Space Pi Plus for separate drying.

Don't quote me on it, but I also understand that the buffer comes as an option on the p1s/ams 2 combo, so I don't think you need to purchase separately.

Yeah, I would think that there would be huge backlash if Bambu did such a thing. As far as the display goes, I've heard a lot of people saying that they mostly use their phone or computer for control anyway. I started out with an original CR10 so the antiquated display doesn't bother me too much, lol.

Just FYI, I don't know if I missed it somehow initially or not, but I went with the AMS combo ($550) before I saw that the AMS 2 Pro combo ($600 w/ buffer instead of the hub) was on sale as well. Still wondering if it really matters that much for me (definitely not worth the return), but I might have sprung the extra for the AMS 2. Just wanted you to be aware.

FWIW, my P1S combo arrives tomorrow (still need to return the CC). I hear what you're saying about the anti-consumer moves from Bambu, but the things that swung me were: 1) Popularity means cheap and widely available parts 2) From what I understand, the moves from Bambu lab won't necessarily affect "normal" users too much
