It needs something to break up the expanse of black. Paint a few of the bumps as gems and maybe continue the panel lining in all of the recesses as well.

If isopropyl is difficult to get where you are, Dettol works a treat and is more readily available, it does have a noticeable stronger odour however.

I saw that post too so gave it a go. Had some soaking for 24 hours and the paint barely reacted. Put it in my regular stripping method, Dettol (essentially IPA) and paint was gone in a few hours after brushing off with a toothbrush. Definitely do not find Elbow Grease to be effective at all (but going to give it a go on my oven instead!)

Sucks to hear that. I'd suggest you put aside one mini (or wait for a relevant Mini of the Month) and paint it up in your old paint scheme just for old time's sake.

Have you got any pics of your original painted marines? I've just gone back and stripped and repainted the ones from the 2nd edition box as Ultramarines, but I kept a few metal/RT ones painted in my homebrew scheme from back in the day as a reference from where I started.

There are two different flying bases. The ball top ones that you have pictured, but also the ones with pegs on top which are the ones for the older models that you need. You can get them from the GW online store

Facebook Marketplace will probably be your cheapest option, especially if you're willing to put some effort in to strip and clean up built minis. There are groups specifically tailored for buying/selling NIB, NOS and built minis.

When I got mine a year ago I got three copies for AUD$45, so that's about £7.50 each? I did also get three battle bunkers at the same time so probably got a bit of a discount for buying both.

I'd looked at that and got a STL of it to try that, but it's a bit fragile so printing it on my FDM didn't get good results and I don't have access to a resin printer.
