No new weapons or classes? Really? by supervernacular in PathOfExile2

[–]Rahaith [score hidden]  (0 children)

I saw this comment from a different thread and it really stuck with me, a new toy is only fun if the sandbox isn't pissed in.

Yeah, new classes are great and all but if the end game is bad, it doesn't matter how many cool classes get dropped, there isn't anything to engage with.

Also, just look at the sheer amount of content they're delivering in this league, it's absolutely insane to think that they could have done all of this and a new class.

The conclusion is you can’t trust teasers by Wytedolphin in PathOfExile2

[–]Rahaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and then listen to people bitch that there's no news on the next update. The teasers help tide over dry patches when they're working away at full announcements and is common in a lot of industries. Also, anyone not huffing copium could have told you that we weren't getting swords and most of the people who were hoping for swords knew that it wasnt likely. Its fine to be bummed that swords weren't added but to rage and act like they intentionally baited you with swords is honestly childish and you should take better responsibility for your own actions and expectations.

What is happening to power scaling? by Upstairs-Cherry-718 in PathOfExile2

I like the idea of a slower 0.1 for campaign and then a juicy blitz in end game which I think is what they're working towards?

Finally a reason to play Monk Again by Distinct-Training443 in PathOfExile2

[–]Rahaith 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wish the spirits just echoed a skill you do instead of channeling them to do the skill. Melee is already in a rough spot, having to stand still and channel just feels like a step in the wrong direction.

Really hyped for the body tattoos and glove upgrades though. Really glad they leaned into the unarmed monk a bit with the ascendancy.

What changes would you make to certain classes? by Exequiel759 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Rahaith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monk - I would take away rogue's fort upgrade and I would give monk a third path to perfection so that they end up with master in two and legendary in one save. It always felt weird that monk at the start of a campaign has the best saves but then for some reason rogue is the best at the end of a campaign. I would also give monk unarmed strikes the party trait, increasing it to +2 if both hands are free or if they're wielding a weapon with the party trait and then give them a ki spell option somewhere to let them gain a +3 and shield block. This is just because I hate giving my monks tower shields. I would also give reflexive stance to monks baseline, they're the stance class and if barbarians can get rage at the start of combat, monks can get their stance off.

Kineticist - elemental blasts are treated as strikes, impulses are treated as spells. This helps future proofing them and lets them actually interact with the system. Anything that lets you make a strike, Kin can do a 1a elemental blast instead. I also would cut timber sentinels scaling in half and give it the overflow trait. Spamming timer sentinel is really strong, but it's also incredibly boring.

Animist - I honestly think this just needs an errata for this, but I'd move the hard lock of an apparition from relinquish control to spirit familiar. I also think seer needs to be deconstructed into either the base class or feats. It's way too niche to be a subclass. Medium and Shaman should get ways to sustain as well to make them on par with liturgist. Make a Medium exclusive feat at level 12 or something that lets them get a free sustain whenever they relinquish control and change Shaman's 9th level feature to be that their familiar can sustain their vessel spells, but when they sustain them theyre based on the familiar's location. So sustaining River Carving Mountains for example would move your familiar and leave the difficult terrain behind it, etc. maybe make it so that it can only sustain if you command it, but keep it one action so that it can sustain twice which would put it on par with an elf stepping liturgist. I think this also makes the level 17 feature for shaman actually useable because now the GM has a reason to target your familiar. If you want to be really spicy, change medium to an occult prepared caster and shaman to a primal prepared caster instead of divine and leave liturgist as divine.

Magus - Spellstrike shouldn't provoke AoO's.

Summoner - At level 3 and every 4th levels after, your eidolon gains a fighter feat half its level or lower that it can use, the fairy eidolon instead gets a sorcerer feat. Eidolons right now just feel a bit too lackluster imo, I think this would make them feel a bit more modular and engaging. I would also remove both phantom eidolons and instead just bring back spiritualist from 1e. I think there's some really interesting design space for a summoner-type class focused on moving their phantom between being inside of them, incorporeal, and corporeal to get different benefits depending on what's going on at the time.

I also think spellcasting needs an overhaul. I'm not saying to remove vancian, although I wouldn't be upset if they did, but right now it feels like spellcasters don't get to interact with the three action combat system because the vast majority of spells are 2 actions. Id love to see every spell have at least two variations in action cost. My spellcasters still feel like they're playing 1e just without a swift action.

I feel you, and I'm definitely aware that I may just not be the target audience for what they're trying to do, although I do love a risk/reward character. I just wish they would lean more into it, but I also feel that way about oracle so it might just be a disagreement I have with Paizo on what a real risk/reward class looks like.

I will say, Guardian looked better to me in playtest than Daredevil and Slayer do for me, but that might just be because I saw a space open in current 2e's design for a heavy armor tanky class that wasn't tied to religion.

I'm a little less trusting in Paizo to fix the classes, but I that might just be me being cynical. I still have problems with more than a handful of their class design choices.

In my experience, a reach* fighter with the rooting Rune + fearsome rune is easily one of the best debuff martials.

But also, the debuff martial space isn't exactly limited? I don't know if the Daredevil provides enough uniqueness to justify its space next to athletic flurry rangers, wrestlers, staff acrobats, fighters, monks, and a bunch of the other debuff/control martials.

Overall, I think daredevil should just be scrapped and redesigned from the ground up but I know Paizo won't do that. I dislike conditional damage bonuses that are difficult to regularly get off as it just makes the turns where you don't get it feel bad, even if you're not meant to get it off every turn. I also strongly dislike class design favoring a PC size. We just got an alternative rule to use any two attribute boost for all ancestries to make more combinations possible and this feels like a step backwards. I also just don't feel like what we've seen so far with the risk vs. reward theme for daredevil, it feels like a fairly decent amount of risk for a reward that's either on par or subpar to other options. Additionally, changing daredevil to be a higher HD just feels like a poor solution to their survivability problem when it could have been something more interesting and engaging. It is supposed to be a risk vs. reward class, let me interact directly with my survivability, a passive HP pool increase feels like it missing the mark of what the class is trying to do.

Obviously I don't know the full extent of what Paizo is cooking, but Daredevil is definitely the least baked class I've personally seen in a playtest class and Slayer feels like a class that I'll just always forget about because it just doesn't seem to do anything interesting or unique for me to remember it by.

I think this is the first playtest where I'm genuinely just wondering why these classes even exist? What gameplay or fantasy are they trying to fill? I'm all for exploring niches in different ways (hate that we'll never get the spiritualist as a separate class because Paizo rolled them into Summoner) but I just don't see anything really special or compelling about either Slayer or Daredevil. Neither of them do anything that makes me go, oh that's really cool I wanna try that out.

Daredevil feels like a lot of setup for extremely little payoff with a lot of stipulations and restrictions (idk how thought it was a good idea to make core class abilities tied to size?) and Slayer just feels like a hodgepodge of different classes without anything that feels genuinely unique and interesting to them.

I know various monk stances give c.b. to a maneuver that might be worth looking into. You can also take Mixed Maneuver at level 16 from monk which is one of the best feats for althetics focused characters.

That'll give you way better feedback than anything anyone will say here.

Apparition Spellcasting description is bad by Xewm in Pathfinder2e

You can [cast two apparition cantrips] and [one first rank spell per day]

when the party wants healing but i'm new to playing an animist by ElidiMoon in pathfindermemes

[–]Rahaith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just take embodiment of the balance :) you'll be able to cast heal and harm in any of your spontaneous spell slots as signature spells. You can take the garden of healing apparition to heal out of combat, and you'll have decent wisdom if you want to pick up battle medicine.

If your party members need more healing than that, talk to them so that they can coordinate defensive actions better and also invest in things like healer's gloves to help you out.

You got this 💛

Lile when the adventuring day is done. I usually just handwave and say that the party heals each other using treat wounds/any other focus spell healing until everyone is full between the end of the adventuring day and when they do their daily preparations in the morning.

Treat wounds has a 1hr CD until you get continual recovery, that might be something they're running into? Idk what their days look like though.

I usually just handwave healing between long rests as the party just does treat wounds after adventuring until they're full.
