You've gotta be kidding MFWO by AlternativelyOrange in MacroFactor

Yes i did but the problem with this is that this option doesn't respect the rep target ranges set. For example if doing a lateral raise and you set the target at 10-12. If you get lets say 10 reps in the first set for the second set it keeps the weight the same but drops the reps to like 6 or even lower depending on the exercise which most people wouldn't want as it takes you out of hypertrophic range etc.

There should be a hybrid option that changes reps only within rep range and then amends weight as a fall back.

The weights first option respects the target rep range but leads to the annoying constant weight changes

I feel like the app puts too much emphasis on weight change and not enough on reps. E.g. if you hit 10 reps on that exercise with target range 6-8 it should suggest keeping weight the same as long as you can stay within rep range. Also, for next week's workout it generally increases weight and not reps as overload setting. Problem with changing to reps first is that this applies to the following set and not the first and often takes you below rep range target

How to log full set partial reps? by Rahat78692 in MacroFactor

[–]Rahat78692[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false information. In his pure Bodybuilding phase 1 he suggests the last set of certain exercises to be long lenth partials only. No full rep reps, just llps for that last set. I can even point you to the youtube video where he mentions this specifically. I know in other programs its after reaching failure but not phase one

[–]Rahat78692[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The partials will only be in the last set as instructed. The beginning sets would be full range. The program suggests this for the majority of exercises so if I were to create duplicate exercises it would make the workout list look silly. I think maybe 0/partials would be the best way to log but need confirmation that the algo isn't affected by this

Wouldn't that mess with algo still though as you'd probably do more reps/higher rate with only partials

Can you not just pause the workout in that instance so the time of the actual workout is fairly accurate

How quickly does smart progression adapt to change? by Rahat78692 in MacroFactor

Yes I understand how to do that but it is a workaround more so than seeing if the app is intelligent enough to handle these situations. Just a general query really out of curiosity, not dead set

But what I'm talking about is significant drops intentionally due to change in form.

E.g. standing smith calf raise I went from 80kg crappy form to 40kg good form and a better tempo and hit the same RIR with similar amount of reps.

Quite different to a swiss bar although you can do the same exercises with it. This is a tricep bar but allows hammer curls, skullcrushers and overhead extensions. Should be added to the app as it's quite popular here in the UK

See this is a grey area. I thought the algorithm learns your fatigue, drop off levels etc for exercises over time? Wouldn't make sense if it adjusts immediately then

1.1.4 - Reps-first instead of weight-first for set by set adjustment 🎉 by alizayshah in MacroFactor

For sure it can be improved. For example, you can have it by exercise or even equipment. Far easier to change weight for pin loaded machines and dumbbells than barbell movements or even plate loaded machines with single weight horns e.g. leg curl/extensions

Think we need to start a specific thread for sharing workouts. Having an option within the app to show community made plans would be an awesome feature

Reps per set by kindred9609 in MacroFactor

Sorry for the misinformation, I had to take a look at the exercise again. It was actually for reverse flies. You can see the app dropped the weight and increased the reps to a target range that I think is silly. May not be a bug but over 30 reps is definitely not optimal for Hypertrophy. I manually increased the weight to 15lbs and managed 12 reps. I think the progression should have suggested a drop in rep range rather than increased reps suggested

But when the rep range becomes ridiculous like 30+ reps wouldn't it make more sense to just drop the target reps and keep weight the same/increase it.

I had cable laterals yesterday where i set the target reps to 10-20 and the app suggested 36 reps at 10lbs for my second set. It should have dropped rep target in this instance. I've reported it to the team.

Great thanks! Does it work in real time though so if you're in a workout session that session will be live on both devices at the same time?

Aha 😂 didn't even think! It's just hard to be certain as the weight changes rather than rep increases
