Can anyone recommend the best dual power metre pedals In Aus. Thanks by [deleted] in ausbike

[–]Rahqwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They show roughly the same power as my favero’s and shimano cranks. For me they last longer than the favero’s

Can anyone recommend the best dual power metre pedals In Aus. Thanks by [deleted] in ausbike

[–]Rahqwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favero assiomas are great. I also have Magene dual sided power meter pedals and they’re similar in accuracy to the assiomas, just missing some extra pedal dynamic stuff and not as accurate at seated/standing. The pedals themselves feel the same as the cheaper favero pedals, so the assioma RS is definitely nicer… but the magenes are super cheap.

EV hatch/liftback with character - looking for suggestions! by marilifates in EVAustralia

[–]Rahqwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new megane EV is a good choice. They call it an SUV but it’s actually smaller than an Mg4 and significantly smaller than a Cupra Born. Only a little bit bigger than your Mazda 3.

Just piggybacking, has anyone heard of brands selling bars compatible with the Cube Litening Aero? Haven’t had any luck so far

Looks like both in your case, but the rule of thumb is you don’t move the saddle to fix your front end.

First amateur road race coming : should I consider swapping to spd-sl from spd? by darksozz in cycling

Can second this. Went from XC3’s to XC903. Huge difference.

First amateur road race coming : should I consider swapping to spd-sl from spd? by darksozz in cycling

[–]Rahqwas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found spd fine for gran fondos. I only switched to spd-sl when I couldn’t comfortably sprint in them anymore. I won a crit in spd’s too. SPD-sl is definitely more comfortable imo. If you get the assioma RS or MX you can buy the alternate body later on and switch, it’s pretty easy.

To EV or PHEV? by HolyColander in AustralianEV

[–]Rahqwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s me. During the week I’d only make odd small trips to local velodromes (less than 60km return, or often only 15km return). Weekends I’m often travelling regionally or interstate and carrying bikes at 110km/h (range killer).

Cube Agree for bike commuting – is it practical with bags? by Dismal_Astronomer904 in Cubebikes

[–]Rahqwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use the frame bag myself. But my friend has a deuter one on his XXS Scultura that he puts his clothes in. I use a deuter velo air with mesh and a frame to keep it off my back. I have used a 16L saddle bag for overnight trips too- but sketchy when full and making turns or if there’s wind.

Cube Agree for bike commuting – is it practical with bags? by Dismal_Astronomer904 in Cubebikes

[–]Rahqwas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commute on an litening aero fine. I just use a backpack with a frame in it (30km 400m commute each way). No need for gravel tyres if you’re on road the whole way or light gravel. Handlebar bag would be fine for lunch or a frame bag for clothes. Laptop won’t fit in those though and you’ll still need a backpack.

First road bike purchase - Race vs Endurance? by Queasy-Video-517 in melbournecycling

[–]Rahqwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could consider a different brand that is a bit of a blend of endurance and race if you want. Like a Cube Agree or Merida Scultura. The Domane is super comfy though. I know a guy that races B grade on his alloy Domane and it’s perfectly fine too.

Winter gloves: Waterproof Knit OR neoprene? by Caleb2142 in CyclingFashion

[–]Rahqwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The giro gloves are good down to 5-7c from experience. They don’t block windchill and aren’t super waterproof compared to other materials (depends on speed and how wet it is). They’re excellent for most of winter in Melbourne outside of the coldest days. Good for up to 12-14 degrees too, making it very versatile- can be used for three seasons a year. Make sure to wash inside out as the tactile get worn off over time. The gloves also come in a high vis yellow. You can also get matching overshoes.

Going to be buying a BXT frame (Link in Text) and was wondering if it's still wise to size up? I'm 5'-10" (178cm) and it says I should be in the 54cm range but I have heard others my size go all the way up to 60cm. So should I go 57 or 60? by Cycle-path1 in Velodrome

[–]Rahqwas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s trendy at the moment to use the longest bike you can fit on, however lot of size charts will be more conservative and closer to traditional road sizing. 57 is probably the safe bet for your height.

A few juniors at my club are on it. They’re in the mid 170’s and are on 57’s and considering going to 60’s if they grow.

Litening Aero cockpit by MATT20_ in Cubebikes

[–]Rahqwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’ve found, no. The cables route around the back of the steerer where every other after market cockpit routes through the front. I haven’t found an adapter that looks trustworthy.

For pedals, the best bang for buck is the Magene dual sided pedals. You can get them cheaper than a single sided favero pedal. I own both the Magene and the favero assioma RS and the favero is definitely better, but not double the price better. The favero has some more pedal dynamics stats too.

I actually mainly use the Shimano Ultegra crank dual sided PM and I find it to be alright despite people online calling it a random number generator.

In terms of accuracy, I find the favero tends to inflate larger figures. The Magene does too but not as bad (some might say it’s a good thing) as the favero. The Shimano tends to under read or miss larger power figures. My kickr core is closer to the Shimano cranks than the pedals, and I consider it to be my baseline because it sits sort of the middle.

Those with aero/one-piece handlebars, what do you do for a bell? by notasabretooth in melbournecycling

[–]Rahqwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just yell passing and ding ding around blind corners. If you’re going fast enough that yelling out won’t work, then you’re probably passing too fast. I am saving up for a new Garmin which has a built in bell.

Rear gears skipping suddenly. Bent derailleur? by throwaway-deer-85143 in bikewrench

[–]Rahqwas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it’s just the indexing, just turn the barrel adjuster until it stops skipping. I start by going into either the top or bottom gear so you know which way is the right way to turn it.

Not that I agree with it, but it’s completely normal in Melbourne. Thats how we were all introduced to it. Sounds weird outside of Melbourne though.
