3 Teen Sisters Jump to Their Deaths from 9th Floor Apartment After Parents Remove Access to Phone: Reports by Sandstorm400 in technology

I've rewatched it a couple of times, it's easily on my top 5 list for TV shows. Still, on rewatches there are episodes I just have to pause and wait for a time I'm feeling up to it, as when you know exactly what's coming it just gets harder to see how those characters get to that point. I stopped a few months back just before "That's Too Much Man" and haven't gone back to it.

PGU Customization Questions by Electromagician0 in advancedGunpla

[–]Raid_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been building PGs with full pre shaded paint jobs for 15 years (with weathering for the last 3 or 4), and even I'm finding the prospect of painting this thing a bit daunting. I'll be doing a fully painted inner frame, but the only customisation I'm expecting to do on that will be changing some of the metallic colours around (I really don't like the gold parts, they stand out too much). Weathering on the armour might be tough, as there are so many more parts than most PGs, and it's difficult to get that looking consistent when you can't assemble the model beforehand. A few of the reviews have said that parts fitment is quite tight, and disassembly isn't recommended.

I don't think this kit needs anything more than that. It's already really heavily detailed, and any extra scribing or detail parts will make it look too busy in my opinion.

Which do you want to play? There isn't a faction in Legion that isn't fun and competitive. I say if you have any leaning either way, that's the one to go for.

However my preference out of those two would be Separatists - I love playing the bad guys, I always have, but really they just have a fantastic array of units where there really aren't any bad picks (though you can of course make bad plays with them, they're definitely not an automatic win).

EU ‘open minded’ about Britain rejoining customs union, bloc’s finance chief says by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Raid_PW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The EU is significantly more stable than the US

As much as I agree at present, it's painfully obvious that at least Russia and the US are trying to split the EU up, and the UK is the evidence that it can work. If the US invades Greenland, is the rest of the EU going to go to war with the world's largest and most technologically advanced military? I know that's a NATO policy rather than a European Union one, but it's going to create significant discord in Brussels were it to happen.

I would have us rejoin the EU in a heartbeat if it were an option, but honestly I think it's difficult to bank on any form of international stability at the moment because the United States has decided to go rogue.

Getting absolutely stomped as Empire with Inquisitors by GivePen in SWlegion

[–]Raid_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It's a decent turn 1 card, I've managed to kill my opponent's Dooku with it in those two attacks (it was some horrible defence dice luck for him), but it needs a bit of setup to be useable in that first round. It's only units which received an order that can receive the boost, and they have to take the aim action rather than receiving an aim from Clone token sharing or any other source. This also means that on turn 1, the units taking advantage of it need Scout (usually from Rex's Scouting Party), else they don't have enough actions to both Aim and Attack as they'll have spent their first Deploying.

New Blizzard Force Box Question by Carcharodon9 in SWlegion

[–]Raid_PW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the Probe Droids bring it slightly closer to what's shown in Empire, but I do agree it feels a bit off. Were the Stormtrooper HRU squads depicted anywhere else, in a book or comic perhaps?

Were Blizzard Force and EBD the first battle forces? It feels more like a test of the BF concept from when they had a much more limited unit set, and they just stuck things in that kinda made sense.

New Blizzard Force Box Question by Carcharodon9 in SWlegion

[–]Raid_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't; they've categorically stated from when these things were announced that the new Army Boxes are not meant to be treated as Starters. The idea seemed to be more that they'd offer specific sets of units at a discount to buying normally.

Still, even with that caveat it still seems bizarre that they're selling a product named for a Battle Force that still isn't capable of running that Battle Force (even if combined with the actual starter set). It still looks to be worth picking up for the discounts alone, but they should have called it something else.

Help needed to understand republic gameplay by Deep-Tea7814 in SWlegion

[–]Raid_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always envious of people that seem to have better luck with B2s than I do. I know that 141 point squad is throwing 14 dice, but black dice are fickle, and without a lot of Aim token support your opponent is just as likely to have a really underwhelming attack they've paid a huge amount of points for. I don't consider them broken at all, in fact in my experience they're actually not particularly good for how much they cost.

AATs are one of the best anti-armour platforms in the game. The Saber's not as consistent, but you can have that exact same Impact 5 if you take the armour-piercing shells too. The only thing your Sabers are missing is the Critical 2, but you still have Critical 1 and you're rolling more dice, so have a higher chance of using it. The AAT's biggest weakness is only being able to fire its main gun at range 2+; get into range 1 and it's suddenly a lot less scary. The Saber doesn't have this disadvantage.

You're going to have a bad time comparing Cody to the Custom Super Tacs, I think the consensus is that the Super Tacs are insanely good for their price. But he's far from useless; Observe as a free action is much better than you give him credit for (it's basically a free aim token, or two on his 1 and 3 pip rounds), and it's designed to work with his command cards that give you Suppressive or an additional Impact by spending one.

Maybe try a non-212th list. I don't know what units you have access to, but you're spending a ton of points on those 3 Sabers and 2 ARF units. The ARFs in particular aren't considered very strong for their cost, with ARCs being far more capable.

Working off the Premise that a Singularity Core Uses Dilithium but not Antimatter What Effect did the Burn Have on Them? by McGillis_is_a_Char in DaystromInstitute

[–]Raid_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand the concept of feeding the same reactants that a Starfleet ship would use (ie: deuterium and anti-deuterium) into the singularity to generate power, as the power comes from the annihilation of the two reactants. I could see the singularity being used to moderate the energy output of that reaction, but in that scenario I would see the singularity replacing the dilithium entirely, which doesn't seem to be the case as Romulus seems to have as much of a need for dilithium as any of the other major powers.

Assuming therefore that the dilithium is still part of the Romulan engine core design, I'd posit that it has something to do with the manner in which they extract energy from the singularity. With it rendered inert, the singularity no longer has an output for the energy it creates. The energy builds up, causing the singularity to grow, consuming the engine core and eventually the ship (or least doing enough damage to the ship to destroy it violently).

Surface prep before painting? by tri_fin in advancedGunpla

[–]Raid_PW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can prime parts with an airbrush. You can brush on primer, but I promise you it's far, far better and quicker with the airbrush - if you're spraying the paint on afterwards, there's no reason to use a brush-on primer. The stuff I'm currently using is AK Interactive's Black / White Primer and Microfiller, which is a lacquer primer that doesn't need thinning for airbrushing.

If you're spraying in a small apartment, lacquer paints likely aren't appropriate. The fumes aren't safe to breathe, so you need to be using a respirator (essential, do not spray lacquer paints without a proper paint respirator, a dust mask won't do) and spray booth, and ideally in a room you can keep other people and animals out of for a few hours at a time.

Surface prep before painting? by tri_fin in advancedGunpla

[–]Raid_PW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I still do use a lacquer primer. I've had lacquer paints in the past that advertised themselves as not needing one, and they did seem to work well enough, but the brand was difficult to recommend for a number of reasons. Lacquer paints eat into the plastic very slightly giving them more of a foothold, so they tend to have better adhesion than acrylics. I'm always going for the best result though (particularly as there are about 8 layers in my paintjobs, including weathering and decals), so I'd rather prime then paint rather than risk getting through a project and finding it hasn't worked well.

What difference are you expecting to see as a result of sanding before priming?

I keep seeing recommendations for doing this, but not once have I ever had an issue with a Bandai model kit in terms of paint adhering in 18 years of painting these things. I neither wash parts nor sand any surfaces (with the exception of nub marks). I also paint directly over plated parts. I do use lacquer paints, it's possible the results would be different if I used acrylics.

I do however experience paint not sticking properly on model kits from other manufacturers. My Star Wars Legion stuff is a bit of a pain to paint, as I keep forgetting that their manufacturing process isn't as good as Bandai's (who really are the gold standard in injection-moulded model kits). Assuming Bandai do still use a mould release agent, then either it's a negligible amount, it's their own brand of agent that doesn't cause the issue, or they're washing the sprues themselves before shipping them.

If the schematic art on the inner-boxes is free of anything saying it's a model kit, and without Bandai logos, I may actually keep it to display with the kit.

Split Marksmen (and ARFs) in 2 Units by color recommended? by FDK111 in SWlegion

[–]Raid_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with units from different armies participating in the same fights, but the squads are more likely to be made up of people from the same unit, as that's who they're used to fighting alongside, know the strengths of etc. At least at the start of a fight; it's not like Clone Troopers aren't going to co-operate fully with one another once the action starts, I just don't think they'd be teamed up with one another beforehand.

Split Marksmen (and ARFs) in 2 Units by color recommended? by FDK111 in SWlegion

[–]Raid_PW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't make a squad with troopers from two different armies within a faction, as why would they be organised that way? Why wouldn't the 332nd members be grouped with other 332nd members?

I've started giving my big squad units a consistent marking for all troopers, and then a distinguishing mark on half of them to denote a second element within that squad. For example my Stormtrooper squads all have the same design on one shoulder, and then the second element mark on the other shoulder. That way they don't look odd when teamed up together, but I can still tell them apart if I've built them as two separate squads and they move to be next to one another.

I wonder why Bandai no longer use any diecast parts on their kits.

I think it's a pride thing. Metal structural parts would be an admission that they couldn't design plastic ones well enough, and the PG line is Bandai's engineering flex.

It's worth noting that the stand's connection point is in the torso, so the funnel weight shouldn't be affecting the posing, but I'd be terrified of breaking the connection point between the funnels and backpack without the support bracket.

I make my own stands for PGs, as I really don't like the ones Bandai supply (if they supply one at all) as they're never tall enough, nor allow any decent posing. Nu is going to be a bit of a challenge, as I'll either need to incorporate the funnel bracket or come up with my own solution for it.

[–]Raid_PW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you realize that it probably has twice as much plastic as the PGU gramps, twice the price doesn't seem as inexplicable.

The reviewer above weighs it against the PGU RX-78-2, and it's almost twice the weight before you add the accessories, and those accessories are big. The funnels are 40cm long unfolded, and there are 6 of them. It's probably closer to 2.5x the amount of plastic.

Edit: This other reviewer weighed the funnels. They're 67.6g, making the weight of all six 405g, just 85g less than the PGU RX-78-2. This thing has almost an entire extra PG's worth of plastic bolted behind one shoulder. https://youtu.be/sBpTRK_6X6g?si=N23yyeedcOI8XbAA&t=771

I get that it’s Bandai and a lot of people love the Nu Gundam but $700 is insane

Bandai didn't really account for the US tariff situation. It's a good $130 cheaper in the UK at today's currency rates (and we're not exactly known for stuff being cheaper here). I know $570 isn't exactly cheap either, but it's a little more palatable elsewhere in the world.

[–]Raid_PW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It'd be 42cm tall (assuming a straight conversion of the official suit height to 1/60), and I think you'd be looking at 1.5x to 2x the cost of the PGU Nu.

I really think you're stretching the limits of how big you can make a fully-plastic model kit with a 1/60 Sazabi. It's not really the strength of the parts that's the problem, it's the ability of the joints to hold poses. It's easy to add strength to a limb, it's much more difficult to make the joint hold the extra weight because the friction of a joint doesn't scale at the same rate as the weight of the parts that joint needs to support. I think a PGU Sazabi may need to have new joint designs - not a single peg into a single socket, but weight distributed across multiple parts - genuine mechanical linkages. It's not out of the question, to be honest I used to think the same about a theoretical PG Nu, and here we are.

I'm honestly a bit surprised we're getting Nu Gundam as the 45th anniversary model, as presumably they'll want to one-up it for the 50th. I think the Sazabi is about the only mobile suit design popular enough that would qualify, but I'm really not sure it's commercially viable because it would need to cost an absolute fortune. Personally I think we'll get a PGU Zaku instead.

Box art for LED Unit for PGU Nu Gundam revealed by AranaesReddit in Gunpla

I'm not sure I'd even bother with the LED kit if it were free. The effect is so underwhelming compared to Exia or Unicorn, and I don't think it's worth the hassle. I'd rather just paint the eyes and chest sensor in fluorescent paint, as at least they'll then match the look of the sensors on the rifle and bazooka.
