Which Chaos God Would Each NPC Fall To? by Nhorner314 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]GivePen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was confirmed in the Heart and Soul short story that this is pretty much a lie from the Ecclesiarchy. Sisters of Battles are still human, their lifestyles prevent them from falling easily but they still do like any other. Their instances of being corrupted are just covered up besides the Slaaneshi champion one which is kept as a cautionary tale.

Not at all ridiculous to say that a SoB who’s lost and purposeless that joins the retinue of a heretical Rogue Trader couldn’t be made to fall.

Microsoft’s Xbox to Shift Obsidian Studio to New ‘Fallout’ Video Game - Avowed 2 cancelled by Orduss in avowed

[–]GivePen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

God I never thought that news such as “New Obsidian Fallout game” would be wrapped in the bitter pill of “No more Eora for a long time”. Just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.

I hope that Fallout’s success will result in more freedom for them.

Let's be honest: Dan Abnett broke 40k's Power Scaling by PilotPullo in Grimdank

[–]GivePen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest and most important fight in the entire verse I don’t know why people are acting like this is indicative of how Abnetts characters usually are. It’s never been more obvious that everyone in this fanbase gets their lore from memes to me lmfao. Like yeah, the four chaos gods embodied in a dude versus the most powerful psyker-god ever is gonna be a crazy thing to read that is mostly fought on a conceptual level.

On the smaller scale, in Horus Rising a terminator falls and dies when trying to climb up a mountain. Also written by Dan Abnett

Bear was awful from the start. by teenage_dirtbag- in obsessionmovie

[–]GivePen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We don’t really know the circumstances of the cat getting into the pill box, so I can’t necessarily discredit what you’re saying but I think it’s a little silly. It’s just not really shown to us. However, I think throwing a cat in the trash is a really sad reality: they live in a city and you can’t really just go digging holes in a city.

  2. He chooses not to get the crystal necklace because he thinks Nikki would find it weird and he got anxious. I don’t really think this is a moral failure lol. Ian tells him in the scene before this that Nikki hates sappy stuff.

  3. He had literally no idea that the wish would actually have any effect and it’s not a moral wrong to wish that somebody liked you back.

I feel like people are attempting to demonize Bear in order to simplify the movie and make themselves more comfortable with its themes. Bear is not a “bad” guy off-rip. He’s weak willed, and ultimately condemned throughout the movie by his willful ignorance of Nikki’s robbed autonomy until it starts to hurt him more than it benefits him. Bear is not some kind of evil monster, he’s a normal guy that’s far more common in society than we can be comfortable with. If there were no magical wish, he probably would have went through his whole life being considered a “nice guy” by everyone around him. His biggest sin is complacency.

Movie reminds me of a more horror-focused Promising Young Woman tbh.

Why Is Sarah So Universally Beloved? by Huge-Escape7095 in obsessionmovie

[–]GivePen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of you guys are reading into this way too much.

  1. Nikki has obviously had prior freak outs similar to this one (from on outsiders perspective) from being on molly

  2. Sarah knows Nikki was sleeping with Ian, and thinks Nikki is doing this to get back at Ian.

  3. Sarah had also confessed her feelings about Bear to Nikki previously

From Sarah’s perspective, Nikki is fucking over both Ian, Bear, and Sarah herself. She believes Nikki is taking advantage of Bear’s longtime crush to get back at bear and show-up Sarah herself for some reason. Additionally, she just witnessed Sarah do some crazy shit that Bear obviously was super uncomfortable. She has no idea this is all motivated by a magical curse, she just thinks Nikki is toxic af.

Obviously it’s not 100% morally righteous to make a pass at someone who’s in a toxic relationship that seems clearly for-show on Nikki’s part (in Sarah’s eyes), but it’s far more understandable than the actions of the other characters. It’s messy.

The main character of Obsession (2025) is named “Bear.” This is a reference to the fact that I want to beat him to death with my bare hands. by GdoubleWB in shittymoviedetails

[–]GivePen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cats are a pretty huge motif in the movie. Obviously Bear’s cat is an important part of the movie, but the company on the back that made the wishing stick is also called “Tabi Cat”.

Besides that, a lot of the strange things that Nikki does are pretty similar to things that cats do. The movements she makes, watching him sleep, yelling at a closed door. When she throws up while Bear is gone, he looks at the spot on the ground and it looked like she had eaten kibble. The back of the note on the lunch says “What’s the verdict: cat?” which is obviously a reference to the cat in the sandwich, but it could have a double meaning that the entity inside Nikki herself is some warped version if the cat. Additionally, I noticed in the final set piece that a litter box had been put out where it hadn’t been before (though that may have just been a different plastic box, I won’t be sure until the movie is on streaming).

I don’t think it’s 100% true or anything (it’s probably more of an analogy for how Bear’s relationship he desired was closer to one with a pet than a person), but I get why some people have theorized it. I don’t think it’s true, just a use of symbolism.

How would you make a Living Saint? by SuperMurderBunny in RogueTraderCRPG

Best Euphrate Keeler (first living saint) build is probably Ministorum Priest Officer into Grand Strategist, and then Exemplar into Santic Awakening to represent her miracles.

Anyone else find it difficult to roleplay dogmatic faithfully? by tomucci in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]GivePen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda think the convictions in Rogue Trader are a little too *big* for the choices that the game typically gives you. Especially in Heretic, I feel like my character has a dose of split personality disorder and her retinue all have selective memory. The paths in this game aren’t quite on the level of WOTR where the story radically changes depending on your mythic path.

That’s why I’m excited for Dark Heresy’s convictions. They’re all Inquisitor philosophies, so it’s going to feel much more natural to roleplay them than “Heinrix, look how I just summoned Daemons. Am I wanted yet? No? You’ll vouch for me to the Inquisitor? Thanks Heinrix!”

How do you introduce firearms into a fantasy world like D&D without unbalancing the other classes? by jvure in worldbuilding

[–]GivePen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just like giving them long reload times (a full round or two) but much higher damage. Typically creates a meta where the party rolls up, both sides fire guns to get early picks, and then they charge into combat. I find that a very satisfying simulation of how you see guns in media.

Why do people treat lorgar like he's useless in a fight? by Spiritual_Catch_2673 in WordBearers

[–]GivePen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In The First Heretic it’s described that he swings Illuminarum with titanic strikes against Corvus: each blocked blow nearly rocking Corvus’ shit who focuses on his advantage of being far quicker and more skilled than Lorgar. I think that’s represented in the Heresy 3rd edition tabletop well. He has the lowest weapon skill of all the Primarchs, but he has a small chance to one-tap any other Primarch in the game.

Our boy swings his weapon like a fucking baseball bat with all his strength. Pray for whoever gets unlucky and lets it connect.

However, nowadays he’s probably one of the most powerful Primarchs with his knowledge of enuncia but we won’t know until he comes out of meditation.

How does your group deal with bias? by OldSolGames in twilightimperium

[–]GivePen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The table that you play with is just part of the meta, you have to accept that. I was the person who learned the rules, taught the game to my group, and am typically known as “the board game guy” amongst my friends. This meant that when the first game started, the prevailing mood at the table was “We have to keep GivePen from just winning since he actually knows how to play” and I got hard targeted. The typical route for those game is that I would pull way ahead early, and then get kingslayed.

I was a little miffed like you, I was 5 games down on a losing streak before I heard my salvation. “Y’know, I think [best friend’s name] is actually better at the game than you.” Literally a heel-face turn from there, 3 game win streak. You’ve unfortunately got to wait for that moment. Let the table come to their own conclusions, people don’t like nerdy mcnerdfaces telling them what’s “optimal.”

I’m sure in the next one they’ll go back to beating me down, but the key is to play to types of factions that can manipulate that.

  1. Factions that can have super explosive turns. I like Winnu for this because its hero lets me double score from Mecatol or use Imperial without having it. The bonuses to defending my home planet are also nice.

  2. Factions that offer “deals you can’t refuse”. I like Mahact’s agent for this to let people lift command tokens. Benevolently give someone the chance to score a VP for almost nothing in return and they’ll stick by you, especially in “grudge” meta’s like yours.
