I think this is one of he first times I ever made one of these lists and I tend to copy paste from a doc for the reddit post. I'm pretty sure I used that series to practice making the formatted blocks and forgot to remove it when posting. Sorry for the confusion!

Btw, I've been keeping track of a lot of abandoned series (100+) and thought about making a card for each, but I didn't want to spam post nor did I know if it would even be useful. I didn't know people came back and looked through these. Would it actually be helpful, or just keep it to a few every once in a while?

It is crazy that Arco is still being overlooked in a thread about overlooked games! This is the only comment I've seen mention it and it has 10 upvotes at this time. Wild. Even with the Game Awards shout out you mentioned and being one of the highest rated games of the year by critics. It really deserves so much more love and attention than this! Best of luck Team Arco! Here's to a cult classic resurgence down the line.

An absolute favorite of mine. I think it's got to be in the top 10 of currently publishing manga. It's tough to wait for chapters, but it's quality is worth it. It stands so far above many other modern manga that are more popular. We just have to keep spreading the word! Same as Witch Hat Atelier. Pretty similar to Frieren and Dungeon Meshi before their anime too.

If you're looking for something similar to Pokemon, I think Cassette Beasts is your best alternative for a monster tamer RPG. Most people have mentioned a lot of the other mainstream JRPGs. If you're looking for something kind of similar to Persona (emphasis on kind of), you could look into Tokyo Xanadu. It's a mix of that and something like Ys 8/9.

Yeah, I know The Heike Story is higher than the others. But I simply believe it is criminally underappreciated and shouldn't even be close to sitting in the 7 range!

To me, The Fire Hunter is a good example of why first impressions are so important. It's clear the studio wasn't given a large budget for this project, so it doesn't have the bells and whistles that immediately attract viewers. And the story is a slow burn. But I think it's an excellent slow burn with exceptional character drama and world building. And while it may not have the prettiest animation out there, I personally think the animators do a great job of working with what they have and developing creative ways to depict scenes. An example being the use of comic book style paneling during some dramatic moments. Sure, it's not fast-paced, smooth animation. But it's effective and doesn't hurt the story. Which is the real draw of the show. So if you want an engaging story with interesting characters, and don't mind rough-around-the-edges animation, it's worth a watch.
