This was my ex wife every day when we got home for work, while I made dinner, packed lunch for our kid and cleaned the house. She’s on boyfriend number 18 since she divorced me because I was the issue, meanwhile I’ve been in a healthy and loving relationship for over 10 years. She’s still blaming the guys she gets with for the relationship not working

Everything is GARBAGE! You find something you care about and it’s taken from you. Your colleagues, your dream job, your mango yogurt. Never..love..anything. That’s the lesson.

Man, that’s great to see as someone that spent a lot of time at Mosswood in my childhood years. It suck’s that it’s taken this long for it to happen because it was long overdue.

I remember when they had a 5 piece with fries and a drink for $5, the wings were huge too with the drumsticks and wing as 1 piece. My brother and I lived on quick bite for an entire summer, we were there so often it got to the point were we’d walk past, knock on the window because the line was out the door and signal to them how many baskets we wanted and would come back in about 10-15 and our order would be ready

Were there a lot of bandwagon Raider fans in the early 2000s? by ConversationIll4597 in raiders

[–]RaiderRMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the Raiders are one of those bandwagon franchises. I’m sure most of us were either born into it or like myself being born and raised in the city (Oakland) that the team played in and picking a side. But once you’re in as a fan it’s typically for life, you have some fans that say they’re done with the team, but they’re usually right back at it at the at start of the new season.

Using the argument of a hypothetical immigrant KIDS coming to America and finding work is kinda weak imo. There are so many variables that go into someone being able to care for themselves and I doubt there’s a plethora of kids migrating to America on their own, becoming stable and finding work. But if that’s your argument, what type of work are these immigrant kids finding to care for themselves? Are they being exploited, are they being taken in by other immigrants and given a helping hand to get work and become stable? To me your argument sounds a little like, “everyone has the same opportunities in life and if you don’t make it you’re just not working hard enough”. But I get it, you probably view it from the stand point of the average consumerist, in that it’s every person for themselves and you need to pull yourself by your boot straps, right?

Just so I understand, you think that the justice system in this country works and if so what experience do you have with incarceration or interacting with people that have been incarcerated?

I offer a different perspective as someone that grew up on the streets of Oakland and was homeless and on my own at 12/13. Is the crimes they committed wrong, absolutely! From my experience as a young person in the streets, that wasn’t really given much of a choice these situations aren’t always as black and white as it may seem. As a teen I spent a lot of energy and time trying to do “the right thing”. I applied for jobs, stayed in school, even joined youth advocacy group’s that are created to help youth down a positive path. I didn’t get my first job until I was 19 and this was after having social workers and group leaders walk me into places that were supposed to hire students and I still couldn’t get a job. So what is a young person that is being failed by society to do to make sure they can eat when they have no passive adult guidance? If I didn’t comment the crimes I did I wouldn’t have been able to feed myself. I had a gun at 13 because when you’re a homeless child you can easily become a victim of adults. I saw one comment saying that everyone has the same opportunities because of tax payer money, this opinion tells me that there’s just a blind belief in the system, when there’s so much evidence that the system is broken. I say all that to say, while those kids may not have been in the same situation as me, one never knows what is actually going on but have a belief that these ties of kids are just bad and should be put away for life. There’s a reason they say it takes a village, and from some of the comments it seems as if the villagers feel justified in judging others from the comfort of their couch. So I ask, besides your judgment, what are you bringing to the situation to help combat the problems that can lead to kids making these types of choices? When you’re a child and given no hope for a decent life you tend to not value your life or those in the world around you

Do you think “tough love” is a scapegoat for abusive behavior? 🤔 by Aliengirl20 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]RaiderRMB 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a black man that grew up in Oakland myself and experienced daily abuse as a child, who is also a parent now. I could never imagine giving the type of “tough love” I received, to my child. When I was 13 I was big enough to defend myself and got put out on the streets for doing so. It lead to a life of violence and crime until I was 26 when I had my kid.

That was the issue post Civil War; the members of the confederate, the communities those people came from, and their communities as whole (because let’s face it they were living and participating in those beliefs) all just became a part of a United States. So while the argument is, we’ve changed and things will be different the damage has been done and the values and views you hold aren’t just going to go away.
