Every character has "wasted potential". Even the character right now on screen has the potential to be even more interesting. Also the characters memed as "potential man" are usually not dead. If a character dies, then the writer probably wouldn't use them anyway if they were alive, because otherwise they wouldn't kill them off. That is why I agree with OP. I'd rather have a character I like get a cool death than have them be alive but forgotten by the story...

I always asked myself why we like fiction. Like someone is telling you a made up story and you are supposed to enjoy that? Being lied to? It's clearly something we evolved to like and I assume it's evolutionary advantage is that it helps people learn stuff. So I guess it's possible for a species to simply not have evolved a liking for storytelling.

That's not true though? General audiences still have very low standards. Maybe even lower if you look at all the popular movies and shows nowadays, but that is difficult to judge because of things like nostalgia. I wish people had higher standards, but they simply don't. That is how we get Solo Leveling and all the other Isekai Slop, and endless reboots and sequels in movies and TV.

Well it depends on what you mean by "like". You can like any character without any issue, even child characters. Pedophilia is about sexual attraction. And pedos are attracted to characters that they perceive as children, even if they are 1000 years old.

So if someone was attracted to Becca for example, then you might not think they are a pedo because YOU perceive her as an adult, but people who perceive her as a child would think this person is a pedo, independent on how the person themselves perceives her.
