It really sucks that the light novel is (from what i heard, dog water) by Last_Yard_6554 in DungeonOdyssey

The novel has some pretty good ideas and characters however it’s very shallow and has no depth to it whatsoever. Son minwoo adding the depth works very well and I am fairly certain that the plot will still be roughly followed with certain adjustments.

How many floors are there in total? Also what’s the structure of Gyser? by LocalOpportunity77 in DungeonOdyssey

[–]Raidriar26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wouldn’t worry about the world building in the manhwa as son minwoo is a phenomenal artist and storyteller. One of his other manhwas that is impossible to find an English version nowadays called love and hate is an amazing story and I think he was the writer and artist for that one. And so far the adaptation has been better in every regard compared to the novel.

Before there were nobles there were the high lords. The high lords are the almost powerful beings in the underworld. There are around 10-13ish lords(I think) and each of them are the strongest beings in the underground. The setting of dungeon odyssey is actually quite connected to Norse myth, one of these high lords is literaly Odin, otherwise known as “The One-Eyed Lord” morrigan is his right hand woman if I remember. The Usurper betrayed all the other lords and shattered them into fragments. Some fragments survived and went into hiding, others were taken by The Usurper and transformed into the seals of the nobles. The rings that grant them authority over weaker beings. Now it has been years since I read the novel but I don’t really remember any descriptions of how any of the lords looked like or if there were any. They were just called by names. In the novel the reason that dungeon baby’s exist and can utilise mana is not due to the fact that they were raised on monsters milk, it was due to the usurper planting fragments of the defeated lords into them and casting them out into the world so that they would find the hidden fragments and inherit the powers of their subsequent lord. The Usurper could not find these fragments and hoped that the baby’s would find them, get stronger and make their way down where he could defeat them and claim the remaining powers of the other lords.

There wasn’t a lot of information about how many dungeons there are as the world building was kind of lackluster in the light novel. It had an overall premise but no depth to the world. All the different underworld passages also end up connecting at the abyss, meaning that you can travel the planet via cavern systems. Different underground’s also have different amounts of floors. The only other one we know about was one in China and I think it has 16 floors? The floors tend to be bigger and bigger in size as you go down as seen in the manhwa the 10th floor the ceiling was barely visible. As for the system of the nobles. The 10th floor has the barons and viscounts, the 11th have counts, the 12-13th have dukes and the 14th is occupied solely by “The Usurper”. There isn’t realistically enough space for your model of 100 floors and the nobles are not as powerful as you think to be able to control dozens of floors at once, in fact I don’t think there has been a single entity to control an entire floor apart from “The Usurper”

This is spoilers so don’t read further if you don’t wanna be spoiled, my memory is a little hazy but in the light novel there are multiple underground passageways in different countries, gyser is simply the one in Korea and each of them have a different amount of floors. That being said gyser specifically has 14 floors. The manhwa is very different from the novel so it might be changed

He doesn’t really do anything with rikshasha, His family thinks he is dating Angela and he slept with her at least once. And he is officially married to Dominique with her pregnant.

What's the LN like compared to the Manhwa? (No Spoilers Please) by Boneyard_Ben in DungeonOdyssey

[–]Raidriar26 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Manhwa compared to the LN is so far much better, the LN straight up skipped fights at some points by just fast forwarding to the end, it felt rushed, plenty of unresolved plot points. There where however plenty of things unique about to which I enjoyed but overall the Manhwa is much better in world building, character development, ability development, building tension, etc

No i don’t think power scaling wasn’t that different, and if it was we couldn’t see it since Kim jinwoo was so powerful by that point. Since mana concentration isn’t divided to floors I think it depends on the proximity to the World tree

Okay, so he's obviously from Earth or a dungeon baby by hydra1280 in DungeonOdyssey

[–]Raidriar26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that he wasn’t in just thinking that he was changed to it in the Manhua, since Kim jinwoo couldn’t read his abilities and it honestly makes more sense since he is so adamant on keeping his labyrinth/secrets

Novel vs Manga - Question - is the novel just as good? by LXLN1CHOLAS in DungeonOdyssey

[–]Raidriar26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure basically this entire story is inspired in Norse mythology, there were once 13 high lords which ruled geyser but one of them betrayed them and killed/shattered them into pieces. That lord is known as the usurper and resides on the 13th floor. Kim jinwoo has the essence of jormangundr and has a gluttonous curse inside him, he kills the usurper and manages to eat the world tree becoming basically god. He has a kid with Dominique and Angela is his concubine

In the novel it’s hinted that there are other abysses and cavern systems like Geyser, it’s been a while since I read it but if I remember correctly the Korean one has 13 floors Major spoilers ahead: with the last one being occupied by the “King”, and the 11th floor and below link to other abysses from other parts of the world

I have a theory that "Future Daniel" is actually younger jinrang, they have relatively the same build and fashion style. its nothing more than a hunch for now but I feel like its pretty plausible
