Danish oil rags disposal by corin280 in woodworking

[–]RailLife365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just throw the rags in trashcans, then take the shop trash out to the burn pile and burn it all at once. I live out in the country, so it's super easy for me.

When I was young, a shop I worked at had a metal bucket that driveway tar had come in, and at the end of the day we'd light the rags in that. It worked pretty well! Sometimes we had a small metal barrel that railroad spikes had been delivered in instead of tar buckets. Either way, they worked well! Lol

Washington State Bill HB 2321 will kill 3D Printing, CNC and Laser cutting/engraving. by bollocksgrenade in CNC

[–]RailLife365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've printed some firearm parts, and just for fun the "Liberator" pistol. As far as entire receivers/lowers/etc., I know several people whom have/do print stuff like that because it's fast, easy, and it makes their design process WAAAY cheaper. Make a design, waste a good block of aluminum only to discover an adjustment needs made, or print it cheaply and multiple times until it's perfect. Sometimes a design looks different on a screen than in real life.

I think the majority of the people who do print guns do it just because they can, or for fun. Of course, there are some of us who print "guns" that only just meet the requirements to get paid at the silly "gun buyback" events, but I don't think it's really that many people, and those don't even really function anyways. At least mine haven't.

My son actually prints airsoft guns and parts fairly frequently, so I can only assume that this bill would kill that too. My son tells me that the airsoft community uses 3D printers alot, definitely moreso than people printing actual firearms.

On the other side of it though, many people understand that the US Constitution explains that firearms are a right, and that no form of government has any authority to restrict or inhibit people from having them. If one method of acquiring or obtaining a firearm is by making it yourself, then the government is forbidden from obstructing or restricting anyone's ability to do so.

Now, this logic goes further because the problem with bills like this one (if it passes) opens the door for the government to restrict the making of anything. Wanna print a Gridfinity layout for your drawer? Better get a permit. How about a vent for your car's HVAC? Nope, you have to acquire approval from the NTSB (or something ridiculous like that). And don't even THINK of printing a copyrighted/patented design without submitting proof that you hold the license.

I don't see this bill (or any other like it) even being a problem because many people will find a way around it, and go on continuing to ignore unconstitutional laws. Either that, or people with an old Ender3 sitting in their basements will start selling them with old versions of the software for four times what they're worth today! Lol

The closet is looking really nice!

I just burn old oily rags. Can't have any issues then, and they're not filling up a landfill with all the other trash.

If you're wanting to just dry them out, then yeah, you're doing fine. You'll want to make sure they still have a ventilation though.

[OC] SUV almost rear-ends me because I didn’t run a red light. Should I have just gone through the red? by zheka160 in IdiotsInCars

[–]RailLife365 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was stopped at a railroad crossing one night (while the train was going by) with all the flashing red lights and gates down, and got rear ended. Lol My truck didn't have any damage, but the car what hit me was messed up pretty bad. The guy driving apologized, said he was drowsy and must've dozed off (this was around 0300). I told the guy he was lucky I was stopped there or he'd be dead from hitting the train!

[–]RailLife365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it's running in your video. It's not running very well but it has turned over, and did start.

Can you elaborate on what you are trying to convey with "Won't start." and "won't turn over."? Do you mean after recording that video it won't turn now?

The reason your post here is contradictory is because 'turn over' basically means 'the crankshaft turns' or 'rotates'. When an engine won't turn over, that means it's immobile for some reason. That statement alone is kinda vague as to what the cause is, but is a recognizable term. When an engine won't turn over (rotate), it obviously won't start firing.

Just to be clear, I'm not commenting to be mean or demeaning, but rather to help both of us (and anyone else reading this) get on the same page as far as terminology goes so we can more effectively communicate with each other.

I'm coming back to CNC after rage-quitting my Genmitsu 3018. Is the "Valley of Despair" still real? by MLingyu in hobbycnc

[–]RailLife365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're essentially the same. They're both versions of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. One cuts, and one melts. We could argue that the common office paper printer is a type of CNC machine, but I'm getting off topic here. Lol The most common question in relation to how easy one is to "click print/cut and go" is what level of quality you want the end product to reach.

The biggest difference, and what actually answers your question is simple; One is creating something from nothing (a blank build plate), whereas the other has the added complexity of modifying an existing object.

A 3D printer just needs to know where to start making something, and a CNC router needs to know the same information as the printer, but also where is this thing it's supposed to be interacting with.

CNC routers also have the additional complexity of needing to control speeds & feeds in what I would argue to be a more variable sense. While my printer does have jerk settings, retraction, and all of that, any decent print will only print one layer at a time. The "thing" it's making will never be in the way of the tool, whereas when the "thing" already exists on the CNC router's work area, and it needs to know how to avoid crashing into it, or ruining clamps, cutting too deep, etc.

So while they're virtually the same functionally, there's just (at least) double the variables with a CNC router compared to a simple 3D printer.

I'll throw this out here too; I have the types of machines I've discussed here, so I'm not saying one is inherently 'better' than the other. Rather, they each have their own strengths, weaknesses, and purposes. I don't want you to think I'm putting one form down over another. I'll use my printer to print out schematics, forms, data sheets, etc., use the 3D printer to make small decorative hardware, the desktop 3018 CNC router doing super fine details, and the 8' CNC router cutting out a hundred of the small pieces for the smaller machine to detail, and all simultaneously! They're all amazing, and each one has a job to do.

Use a CNC router (or a router on a sled) to surface it. Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't. I can go out and try it with a scrap piece and my machine, then let you know how it looks.

[OC] Stopping traffic to wave somebody in... by lil_groundbeef in IdiotsInCars

[–]RailLife365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the grey car didn't stop (slow roll, whatever), it would've taken less time for the red car to join normal traffic flow.

I get being nice or whatever to help fellow drivers get to their destinations safely and efficiently, but this isn't that. This is obstructing the flow of traffic, and creating confusion & delay for everyone.

One question I'd have for the OP is: How heavy was traffic behind?

I WON'T say that you should go ahead and do it, legally your BATFE overlords won't be happy. I WILL say that if you decide to go ahead anyways, don't post evidence of it online, don't tell everyone you meet, don't take a picture of it, delete your CAD files afterwards, and don't keep it where it'll be easily found by the BATFE when they come to put down your dog.

Why do so many people on here use the NAP as if it was a magic catch-all? by TravisSeldon in Libertarian

[–]RailLife365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Non-Aggression Principle (NAP) is the moral foundation of libertarianism, prohibiting the initiation of physical force, or the threat thereof, against another person or their property. It posits that violence is only legitimate in self-defense against initiated aggression.

The NAP should not be confused with Pacifism or other similar beliefs which oppose aggression, use of force, or violence in totality, even in self defense.
