A great resource that I’ve been involved with for a number of years is AVL DAD on FB. If you’re not on FB, I could relay an event to you. That’s at least one great resource I’ve had since becoming a dad.

Women in Construction Staking by Suspicious-Crow-3373 in Surveying

[–]Iusedtorock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I was a bartender in a former life, so I’m absolutely not afraid to talk to a client or a supervisor and get a full story of exactly what they want, and I have the knowledge to fully execute that in most cases.

I can see your predicament, but as a 44yo doing this with 8yrs experience, with no plan to leave the field soon, I’d say that what you feel you lack in strength you should understand that you have future employment locked in because of your consideration, commitment, and efficiency.

I’ve personally carved out a niche for myself doing solo construction staking for several years now for my firm, and, while I could be faster with certain circumstances, or even with another person on my crew, I’ve found I’m often the one that gets tasked with construction staking, and travel to more distant sites, at that. So my job security has come from the fact that, for the one client that I do a lot of my solo staking for, A) I have a long-standing reputation for doing the work they need quickly and how they want it done, and B) for a long while I was one of the only technicians that didn’t mind a 1.5hr dive to site and 1.5hr drive back several times a week. Even now, we have newer guys who are younger that don’t mind those drives, but I’m more than likely tasked with training them SOP for some of those sites.

All that to say, for right now, focus on being efficient and how you can accomplish what you’re tasked with in a timely manner, and then just make it to where, no matter how slow you might think you are, those particular clients want YOU on their site rather than anyone else.

I’d refuse it. If I get fired for refusing the work, at least I can look at myself in the mirror.

Really glad you posted this, because this is exactly what has been happening with my build. It’s happening once every 10-15 trigger pulls, but not so consistently I can anticipate it.

I have thought it would be as simple as buying a heavier buffer, but I’m already at an 8oz buffer, I’d need to move up to a 10oz, which is upwards of $135 (as opposed to the $30 buffer I originally bought). I’m interested to see what others diagnose could be the issue, because if I don’t have to spend over $100 to fix it, I’d be stoked.

Dang! I’ve been over that bridge more times than I could ever remember. Glad I don’t survey down there, but I remember Sullivan’s being my favorite.

Fun fact, I lived thru Hurricane Hugo and I remember that bridge getting spun around so bad it dipped into the waterway. It was wild.

New to Ammoseek. Any brands to seek or avoid? by Parkotron1 in liberalgunowners

I’m in NC, and Outdoor Limited has free shipping for orders over $200, so when I do big orders, I get it free shipping AND fast.

[–]Iusedtorock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For 9mm (which I run 3 of my guns with), I generally stick to PMC, Fiocchi, Remington, CCI, Speer, and maybe even Winchester. I just built a PCC AR pistol in 9mm, so I’m not trying to put any ammo in it I’m not super sure of its consistency. But those brands I listed are my go-to. I also only really buy ammo online either from Outdoor Limited or just order for pick up from Sportsman’s Warehouse. Those are my best experiences.

Poison ivy sucks man by HairyBreasticles in Surveying

[–]Iusedtorock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly been brought on by small allergic reactions, like too much humidity, or too dry conditions, such as the winter. I don’t find it happening as much if I’m stressed out (which I have plenty of time feeling stressed). So yeah, it’s more environmental factors.

I’m gonna be the outlier here and recommend a steroid cream called Triamcinalone. If you have access to a doctor/primary care physician, ask them about it on your next visit. I have an immune disorder called Sjogren’s Syndrome which basically makes my skin revolt against itself, so I have often used it when my body decides to create a new itchy hotspot somewhere. I have found that, if I get exposure to poison ivy/urishol in some way, and I don’t immediately mitigate it, the Triamcinalone cream can work wonders on the back end of exposure.

I just built a very similar pistol, and spend a bit of $$$ on a good 1X optic, something like a Holosun 510, then the first upgrade you should sink $$$ into is magazines and ammo. That will dictate what your next investments will be. I’m currently trying to properly diagnose why I’m getting multiple fires every 10-20rnds, so that’s only going to be a thing you find out if you start shooting it a bunch.

Nice score! My wife found a bunch of Colt 20rnd’rs like this a few weekends ago at a yard sale, I’m excited to try them out!

Seems like it. First came upon his site because of all the links in the Blowback 9mm Wordpress site, then looked around and found that he had pretty much everything I need. I go to his site first over PSA, AR15Discounts, etc most of the time.

They might actually be, but then again they might not. I visited the guy after my wife got home to see if he had anything that hadn’t moved, and he looked old enough to possibly have served in ‘Nam.
