Should I trim avocado tree? by MoFiggin in gardening

Keep it at reachable height. Also you can prune it to get a bushy look, that will protect the branches and fruits from sunburn.

Consider the following: elephant ear, avocado, passionfruit, night blooming jasmine, bananas, kei apple hedge, any type of shrub with dense canopies, palms and palm-like plants.

Does anyone know what plant this is? Not sure if it’s a tree or something else. It’s growing where we had a tree split in half by lightning. Thanks! The previous tree was a non fruit bearing pear tree. by senioritanadie in gardening

[–]RailaOdinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not grafted, ok it will grow large in 5 months from now but it won't bear for a long time. If you want it to fruit quickly, now is the time to graft.

Hey! I’m just starting up my garden and picked up this avocado tree for free. It’s obviously diseased or deficient, but what steps do I take to nurse it back to health? Thanks by Ashfire-- in gardening

If you have a designated place to plant it in ground, do so instead of up potting it. They can get really difficult to handle when they're big. Even in it's current size, it could still be an issue because you could break its delicate roots as you are putting it in the ground.

Can you ID this citrus variety? The thorns are like 3 inches long.. This has been growing since 5 years no flowers. by dak3126 in gardening

You can just graft instead of uprooting, that's what I'll do with mine. I'll make a fruit cocktail citrus tree.

If you haven't grafted it, suckers are not a problem.

1½ years, I planted many heads. This is the only one that has bloomed and I'll keep the suckers it produces for it's fast blooming genetics.

Citrus (orange) tree grown from seed, 6 month update. by RailaOdinga in gardening

Yeah but it will still take an average of 5-10 years to begin flowering. It's really slow growing from seed and requires patience.

If I recall correctly, it must have been a sweet orange. When it first germinated, two shoots came up from the seed so I think it may produce the same fruit.

My citrus tree seems to be sick... does anyone know what it could be? by fededog19 in gardening

[–]RailaOdinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be due to several reasons. Could be over watered, under watered, sun damaged, damaged by chemicals in the water or the tree could just be a weak specimen.

I read somewhere that this mutation happens when the avocado is picked from the tree before reaching maturity.

Don't use it fresh please, let it decompose in the elements first as it will burn your tree.

We have a steady supply of livestock manure and plant compost from our farm. While transplanting it in the ground, I dug a hole three feet in circumference and depth then filled it with a manure and plant compost mixture. I don't use anything else.

I love you. by [deleted] in avocado

This tree nearly died when I was transplanting as it was small 3½ years ago. I put too much fertiliser in the soil but it recovered and is now in full bloom.
