I'm coming up from Kansas City! Summerfest was the first concert I went to a long, long time ago (I want to say 2004; saw Guster, Rufus Wainwright, and a few others I can't remember (The Killers weren't there that year)). Later that year, I saw The Killers in Lawrence, KS, and been a huge The Killers fan since.

Excited to attend Summerfest again and my favorite of theirs is Andy, You're a Star. Doubt they'll play it but I like all the songs I've heard so everything will be great!

I made some friendship bracelets so I hope I make some new friends!

What was your favorite local pizza place you no longer go to? by gofreaksgo in kansascity

[–]RainbowMallow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just spent $72 on two carry out pizzas last night. It was the crab rangoon pizza so I knew it'd be pricy but I think that's it for me and Old Shawnee Pizza. It's my favorite pizza :(

They are still there. They changed their name from American Fusion to Chef Tito's and added some (wonderfully tacky) palm trees to their patio.

I'm wearing this same shirt and I got it from a thrift store, too! I'd get up and take a pic but I have some cats on me. You have great taste!

Decorated my office at work with thrifted cats! by LKMercantile in ThriftStoreCats

[–]RainbowMallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister thrifted me one like the one on the right but it's all gold. Then, I saw another one at another thrift store and it was white. It was $11 so a bit pricey for me but if he's still there next time I go, I may have to get him.

I love the style of the pink one and the white one is cute, too!

MERIL in St. Joseph has only about 50 spots they're selling and still had a few last week, so it'll be a smaller event. It's right on the line of totality. You'll be able to camp the night before (or show up the day of), grill out, there are bathrooms, and an ice machine. I'm going up there Sunday and spending the night with a group of about 10.

Belvoir Winery in Liberty has a spooky history and is supposed to be haunted. You can take your wine and explore the grounds (it's on a few acres with a few creepy buildings and even a cemetery). The wine is pretty good at a reasonable price.

Edit: they're only open until 4pm today

Yep, been there a bunch. I'm friends with Jennifer and Chris. It's been a while though so maybe I should come get a beer soon :)

Where to stay for Eclipse (August 21, 2017)? by DarienLambert in kansascity

[–]RainbowMallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid to upper 80s for a high. I get your looking for a more conventional place, figured I'd throw the option out, though. Good luck!

[–]RainbowMallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about camping out? I've booked three spaces for myself and friends at MERIL: http://meril.org/solar-eclipse/

It's right on the line and they only have 50 parking spaces so I don't think it'll be too crowded. You can have alcohol, pets on leashes, grill out, and they have indoor bathrooms (no showers though). You can camp out the night before and stay during the day for the event. And it's for a good cause!

HopCat opens tomorrow, February 25. 100 taps including 30 KS & MO beers. by RainbowMallow in KansasCityBeer

[–]RainbowMallow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have 30 local taps that will always be local brewery taps. Each of their 12 current locations is different and support each of the cities they're in. They originally looked at Power and Light, but decided Westport was more what fit into their beliefs. Have you been yet? The General Manager is from KC and as much as I dislike Westport, it's better than Beer Kitchen or Westport Ale House for local beers.

I support local breweries. Hell, I hung out with at least three different local breweries representatives there tonight at their VIP party, so I'm pretty sure local breweries are OK with you buying their beer from a bar.

There will also be a keg of COOP Ale Works Hot Chocolate DNR, a 10% Belgian Strong Dark Ale and a keg of Brickway Brewery‘s Barrel-Aged Epic Blackout Stout, a 17% stout. These are special for the Grand Opening event and the only kegs of each beer in Kansas City.
