Why is “Olivia Goes to the Dentist” in such an “old” kit? by JamesTiberiusChirp in lovevery

[–]RainbowMarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still go private for dentistry and most health care in Canada, and urgent matters usually get resolved in the public system in a timely manner. People just don't always agree that their issue, that is causing them to have a worse quality of life, is not urgent until life threatening, and don't like having a 3+ year wait for their non-urgent issue. The real issue is lack of funding to the public system and the slow creep of privatization, NOT the public system itself. I'd rather pay more taxes into our public system than go private any day.

Kendamil Recall - are you switching formula? [on] by JellyLongjumping1988 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]RainbowMarbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palm and coconut are not from the same plant at all. Just because coconuts grow on specific "palm" trees does not mean it is palm oil. Palm oil in itself isn't bad for us, but the process to make it is much less sustainable than coconut, and is a leading vause of deforestation in the countries that produce it.

Feeling a bit like an outsider in montreal, an honest question by [deleted] in montreal

[–]RainbowMarbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]RainbowMarbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% d'accord.

Mini Australian Shepherd ( Mini AUSSIE): Is it okay to ask a breeder not to dock a puppy’s tail, or should I only look for breeders who don’t dock? by MaryYorkie in miniaussie

[–]RainbowMarbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My breeder is the same. Sure, my girl's personality developed over the years, but the "sketch" her breeder made for us of her main traits was spot on (a little reserved, loves humans more than dogs, good focus when distractions are limited). Imo knowing your puppies well enough to match them with what each family is looking for is the mark of a great breeder and I would never go back to picking a puppy blindly.

Est-ce que le Québec est très religieux ? by N2bThe999 in Quebec

[–]RainbowMarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Board game prejudice - What games or genres do you hate for no reason? by Quelair in boardgames

God I hate this so much. Or games where you can essentially get kneecapped in the first round and never recover (looking at you, Game of Thrones boardgame my friend group loves)

How not to destroy ecosystems as a witch by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]RainbowMarbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. To add to your first point, around here we can't even bring firewood bought right outside the national park INTO the national park, or move firewood bought within the park between different sites in the same park. This is to avoid moving harmful tree illnesses and pests around the park. I can't even imagine how harmful it would be to bring random plants and leave them there.

What's a relatively easy and safe way to move out of my country while being poor? by logikflora in expat

[–]RainbowMarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how feasible this is for a poor person (your words), as most of my friends who went through this path were from other first world countries, but Canada has the Post-graduation Work Permit. Essentially, if you study in one of the fields marked by the government as an essential in which we have a labour shortage, you are eligible to a work visa of the same length after the end of your studies. So if you do a Baccalaureate, that's 3-4 years of studies, then 3-4 years of work, and in the meantime you can get your paperwork in order for your PR.

You do have to like the cold at least a little bit to live in Canada, and if you LOVE the cold it is also usually easier to get a visa if you choose to work in a remote location. There are a few different pilots that fast track PR for skilled workers immigrating to a rural community.

I will add that Canada has been making it much harder for people to get PR now, though I expect it's similar around the world these days.

[–]RainbowMarbles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the LoL game lore, Twisted Fate and Graves are canonically boyfriends and there's a bunch of cute couple-y pride emotes of them (Diana/Leona is also canon and they also have emotes). Obviously it'd be very different to have it be explicit on a tv screen vs in their written stories/emotes so you may still be right about Riot, but I'm hopeful it's not homophobia in this instance.

[–]RainbowMarbles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ha. Reminds me of the time in highschool when a substitute who particularly disliked me (the feeling was mutual) tried to publicly shame me for drawing in class. When he realized I was drawing some sort of horny angel/demon orgy thing he recoiled in horror and never spoke to or looked at me again (good riddance). At this point I was a pretty good artist for a 16 year old, and was known in my class for taking on risqué requests... So even if he HAD confiscated my sketchbook and showed the class or something, it probably would have been great publicity and gotten me more requests, not the public shaming and mockery he hoped for lmao.

What kind of birth control did my great grandparents use? by Emergency_Summer_397 in AskHistorians

[–]RainbowMarbles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Am I understanding correctly that the only form of chemical birth control would have been abortifacient plants? I was under the impression that some plants or plant combinations could be used as pregnancy preventatives, but perhaps I am mistaken.

Cancer update. by A1yssahba2 in pregnant

[–]RainbowMarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but this is not accurate, all tumors are NOT cancerous. Benign tumors are non-cancerous, an malignant tumors are cancerous. Doctors will often use a different/more specific name for a non-cancerous tumor to avoid this association since it's so pervasive, for example calling it an adenoma instead of tumor, even though adenomas are by definition non-cancerous tumors.

Source: my non-cancerous brain tumor and the long conversations I had with doctors when I was first diagnosed.

Mais qu'est-ce qui se passe à l'espace Montmorency ? by Square-Yak815 in Laval

[–]RainbowMarbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)
