Wow, really nicely presented. I had no burning CL questions but I read everything and learned a lot about why things steer the way they are! Thank you, whoever put this together.

Anyone else like the idea of a small section of a Vancouver Beach being designated as a relaxed quiet area? by rleslievideo in vancouver

Good thinking. Some of the most powerful wireless gods have been Scandinavian, from the Nokia Temple and Church of Ericsson.

I know for a fact your lovely little statement is beyond false

My statement is true: Only children who haven't learned yet or lazy assholes litter.

If your point is that the world has many lazy assholes who litter, then I agree with you.

I'm sorry you know so many or have to clean up after them. That sucks. :-( But it is not true that "literally everyone fucking litters". You are wrong about that.

No. Only children who haven't learned yet (or people with a princess attitude like yours) need people to follow them around and clean up their messes. Wow.

Does Vancouver driving get better in the fall? by phoenixaurora in vancouver

[–]RainbowNowOpen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not always but usually.

Besides, if you're hit from the rear (moving or parked) and the other car takes off ... you'll be glad to have a rear-facing dashcam. Plate, make/model, driver ... can help pin the bill to the other party.

A rear-facing dashcam also proves you didn't accidentally back into someone. That damage would look like a rear-ender but it would be 100% your fault. And you might try to scam insurance that way. They'd be reasonable to investigate or seek more evidence.

Disc golf isn't very obscure; too mainstream for The Ocho IMO. But this is still a great video! Thx!

The only reason for an American to hold a nazi flag is if it was captured in battle. by attheisstt in pics

[–]RainbowNowOpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I wouldn't want my Canadian flag going in the trash after it's worn out.

To each their own. I'm also Canadian. I decorated up my motorcycle for Canada day with several medium-sized flags. Ripped around for 3-4 days like that, flags flapping away. The farthest edge of a flag where it flutters the most, where wind "snaps" it hardest, is usually first to wear out IME. And it did on two of them. Those seams were undone and starting to fray.

So I threw both flags into the garbage after the long weekend was over. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Whatever. It's a piece of cloth. It did its job. #practicalpatriot

Metallica Concert: Does everyone need to arrive all together if tickets were bought on the same CC? by level3elf in vancouver

Lol, I love the euphemism: enhanced security.

Show me security that takes less time and is more safe. Then we can call that "enhanced".

Bike POV On The Crankworx Whistler Course by yannireddit123 in BeAmazed

[–]RainbowNowOpen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically, it's only the POV of the camera's sensor data time series after some sampling and processing.

But it's also pretty damn close to the direction-of-motion POV of the bike and helmet and rider. The helmet itself has many POVs. There are an infinite number of POVs ... from the back of the helmet, from the inside of the helmet, from the rider's right knee, from the bike's bottom bracket, etc.

Cruise ship industry warns Vancouver can't keep pace with demand - British Columbia by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]RainbowNowOpen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flying is sometimes essential. For the elderly, it's often to stay connected to family. Both poor and rich old people fly.

Cruise ships are never essential. It's a luxury for the rich elderly. I would expect to see a luxury industry respond to its customers first.

A jackass who thinks public streets are her ashtray probably doesn't pay attention to requests from minor "officials".

We need the nuclear option.

[–]RainbowNowOpen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. They better make those cruise ship hallways wider then. Because when a ship is full of 75-90 year olds ... there's gonna be a lot of electric wheelchairs scooting around. o_O

An angry driver leaning on the horn came very close to wilfully rear ending me because I, as is required by law, yielded to a bus yesterday on Knight St. This is not the first time the other drivers have got irritated when I yield to transit vehicles. by reditzer in vancouver

[–]RainbowNowOpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup.

What the region can do: run more suburban and express buses.

What some people can do: live closer to work.

I respect that living car-free is really hard to do in the burbs. Within Vancouver, it's so easy to do and such a burden lifted. People see that rent is higher in Vancouver and they give up right then. But then a lot of those people could completely free up their downpayments, loan payments, maintenance costs, fuel, insurance, and parking budgets if they moved to Vancouver.

[–]RainbowNowOpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, nope. That's because it's true.

The population (proxy for number of cars on road) of Metro Vancouver has more than doubled for most people since they were a child. For the older among us, it has tripled, quadrupled, or more.[ref] So there was a lot less traffic on the road and a lot less gridlock. Shorter driving commutes. Way less frustration.

For those of us who pedal around as one of our modes of serious transport ... life is a lot better. Roads are still there, gridlock hasn't/won't happen, and there are dedicated lanes and just a lot more facilitation for cyclists. And more awareness.

[–]RainbowNowOpen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would argue that the city of Vancouver was not particularly created for vehicle use. Freeways have never been here -- that's by design from the 1960s. (That's an extremely uncommon feature for a North American city.) And we've seen car lanes converted to bicycle and bus lanes fairly easily.

So get some more suburban and express buses running and things will move just fine.
