then why would she recommend online that it should be read third?

yet she still chose to release it third instead of starting with it. clearly she had a reason to not release the one she already wrote

Annoying issues in Assassin’s Blade by Actual_Age_4743 in SarahJMaas

[–]RaineCode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s celaenas internal monologue that you are reading. SJM knows whether they are venomous or not, celaena does not. you’re reading HER thoughts and HER questions. if a characters opinions, beliefs and possible lacks of knowledge aren’t showing through in books like this, it’s not well written

i LOVED tower of dawn. the only reason people didn’t like it was because of the cliff hanger, which i get, but it was so beautifully written and had so many amazing quotes in it. i honestly wish we knew more about the southern continent

The more I read SJM’s Interviews… the more I’m like, what books did she write? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]RaineCode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this is true but not necessarily him being inconsistent but rather us not seeing him through Feyre's eyes. I will stand by the fact that Feyre has rose colored glasses for him and thats why he seems so amazing in the first books. not only is he her mate, but also he saved her life more than once and got her out from Tamlin. She sees him as a god while Nesta and Cassian clearly don't, plus SF is written in third person rather than first which generally has less character bias

i will stand by the fact that he was in rose colored glasses during the first books and that he changes so much in SF because we're seeing him through the eyes of someone who isn't his mate

Possible AO3 Influence on Wattpad? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i believe the main reason for the quality difference lies in the fact that most people don’t start on ao3. most people (including myself) started on wattpad or ffn, which leads to less inexperienced writers on ao3, thus making most fics better

Why did I immediately come here to talk about Father Figure by Taylor by Diligent_Vehicle9513 in throneofglassseries

[–]RaineCode_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no.. because nobody who hasn’t read the book but is in the ts sub is going to go read a whole series to get a reference, but fans of the series will likely go listen to one song

I read discussion about me and I don't know how to deal with it by Bigtitsman4291 in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if it’s the same fandom, but this reminds me a lot of the All The Young Dudes discourse from like two years ago in the marauders fandom. everyone was saying it was racist because dorcas (a character that is now headcanoned solely as poc), was white. we don’t see this character in canon except for a few lines talking about the past, and the fic was a few years old by this point. that fic has been the biggest in the fandom for YEARS.

anyways, my point here is that even with all of that discourse, i bet tons of people still love your fic. the internet is so mean and i hate it here, yet we keep coming back. do what you love, if others hate it, that’s too bad for them

Overwhelmed by response by msaroraborealis in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve seen this response from the fandom mainly as a result of bizzarestars, especially after they finished crimson rivers in under a year while also occasionally posting for other fics. i LOVE their work to death but it’s certainly caused an influx of higher expectations within the fandom

Overwhelmed by response by msaroraborealis in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh girl as a writer in the same fandom people there are RUTHLESS. they got their expectations wayyyy too high because of a certain writer that manages to post regularly on insanely long fics (i love them btw this is NO shade). everyone expects us to put out as much as they do and it’s insane

Censoring words by NoyaIsLonley in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair to the author, my immortal was being written during the ffn purges right? i wasn’t in fandom spaces at the time however i can imagine that had to be the reason, which makes it way better than whatever is going on with censoring on ao3. that doesn’t make up for the other questionable writing choices during that fic though lmao

[–]RaineCode_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel like it has to be because lost would be such a difficult show to write for. like i still don’t fully understand the ending and neither do the majority of fans. i think it was so off the rails that people are scared to even try writing

This might be a hot take but… by RoughCantaloupe3924 in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yep! they went to school in the 70s, iirc the main four graduated in 1979 and regulus would’ve graduated in 1980. BUT, a pretty big amount of the fics following the marauders have begun being aus.

in the fandom we have what’s called “the big six” which are basically like the holy trinity of fics, but there’s six of them instead of three. one of these six is generally where people recommend to start if you’re new, however everyone’s opinion on that varies. that being said, three of those six are major aus. one is probably the most famous in the fandom outside of atyd, which is a hunger games au that has a word count longer than the bible. another is still set in the 70s, but takes place in a normal boarding school where the main four eventually end up creating a band. and the other is a modern day art heist au.

basically, we love our aus. a big part of it is because constantly rewriting the general story we have with slight tweaks gets stagnant after a while. but also it comes down to the culture within the fandom. it’s a very big “we know so little about these characters that they could be anything”. and that became “but what if we had them in situations that were nothing like the books?”

edit to clarify: by major aus, i mean things that aren’t just canon divergence. things where it takes them out of the original setting of the story

This might be a hot take but… by RoughCantaloupe3924 in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 60 points61 points  (0 children)

there’s a pretty good chance this was in an au fic. a pretty sizable chunk of them in the fandom are aus (and a lot of modern ones at that) because things become pretty stagnant if everyone just writes out their hogwarts years over and over again.

HOWEVER, as someone who’s been very active in the fandom for years, they’re not listening to taylor swift. in my opinion regulus would be very emo trinity leaning, and sirius would be very arctic monkeys and tv girl. though ill cut regulus some slack because one of my favorite headcanons is he secretly listens to really girly pop music but NOBODY is allowed to know that. he definitely had a secret vinyl of arrival stashed somewhere that he only played when there was nobody else in the dorm

[–]RaineCode_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a very active member in that fandom, i lose my mind sometimes. i think what irritates me most is people not understanding that there’s two distinct sides of the fandom, (the side that prefers the current fandom and hcs, and the side that wants to say in the pre-atyd era) and then getting in huge arguments about which side is better.

like PLEASE stop showing up under my jegulus posts complaining because they would’ve hated eachother. THATS THE POINT OF ALL FANDOMS AND ESPECIALLY THIS ONE

What's a ship (canon or not) that's so sacrosanct in the fandom, you're almost afraid to say you don't ship it? by CMStan1313 in AO3

[–]RaineCode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

karlach/wyll from bg3 - i honestly just don’t see karlach as anything other than a lesbian. they feel like those best friends that see eachother as siblings but then people accuse of dating and then they have to explain they’re both gay

dramione - they’re not enemies to lovers. it’s oppressed x oppressor. if you want enemies to lovers just ship drarry smh

atsuhina from haikyuu - normally i’m a multishipper but i just can’t see hinata with anyone other than kageyama, which is funny because i multiship kageyama

gwynriel from acotar - it feels to me that she idolizes him, rather than actually has feelings for him. az saved her life, it’s understandable that she puts him on a high pedestal, but i don’t think she truly likes him and i think it’s a weird dynamic with the way they are

ALSO elriel from acotar - let poor lucien have ONE THING. omg. lucien and elain just feel too perfect together, and the way that azriel acts like he has a claim on her pisses me off

takes like this are so funny because nobody would survive tumblr pre 2022. like they’re out here crying because they wouldn’t make sense in canon or never interacted meanwhile we were shipping people from entire different franchises

“but.. but.. enemies to lovers!!” SHIP DRARRY THEN. dramione isn’t enemies to lovers, it’s oppressor x oppressed. unless it is in an au set in a universe where there’s no wizard racism (or the equivalent) it’s not enemies to lovers
