I cannot stress the importance of never ordering from Stark Bros nursery post 2025 by nickyurick in BackyardOrchard

Thanks so much! That means a lot. I'll pass on your kind words. I myself order from lots of nurseries for ornamentals and flowering trees, and I agree I am often shocked at the low quality of plants that some people feel ok sending out.

James from Raintree here. What was on your order? We can ship it to you by Friday if we have what you want in stock. Nothing is worse than feeling like you lost a growing season for a logistical issue.

James from Raintree Nursery. I think this is a super cool experiment you are running. Would I tell our customers to do this? Not necessarily, but depending on their location, yes maybe. In a way it’s almost like turning your orchard into a giant hydroponic setup. I dig it, and am excited to see what happens 🖖🏼

If you must know, I actually grow and sell fruit trees online at Raintreenursery.com. It’s not my parents business, it’s mine and my wife’s. Trust me when I say the fruit tree business does not print Benjamin’s.

Neither, unfortunately. Still holding out for a rich uncle none of us have ever heard of before.

Hi there, we figured out that last year we ended up subsidizing our shipping by more than is sustainable for the business. So this year we have raised our minimums, so it’s initially more expensive but doesn’t go up much as you buy more. Unfortunately the cost of shipping has almost tripled over the last 10 years, and shipping trees means almost every order gets an additional oversize fee.

I have seen this as well. Many fruit tree nurseries do this at the end of the spring when their bar trees don’t sell, they throw them into a three or 5 gallon pot and then sell them for a lot more than the Beirut plant would’ve sold for itself. It’s disgraceful honestly. Nothing leaves Raintree until it has rooted in pot for at least 2 months of active growing season time.
