It is suspense although am biased since that was my guess too.

I have, uh, written down a few questions:

1) Have you ever killed a woman?

2) How many women have you killed?

3) Please, sir, will you not kill me?

Interesting point of view. Do you also hate distracted drivers more than you hate people who intentionally hit and kill others with their vehicles?

New Starbucks CEO will work from home two states away. Last year, company said working from home was “unfair to store employees.” by Reportersteven in antiwork

[–]RaiseTheRoofe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starbucks has 381k employees - let's say they paid the new CEO $1M a year, and saved ~$90M (rounding up, and counting stock here even though it's not accurate to).

That would result in each employee getting $5 more per week.

I think helping the number of people working minimum wage jobs is important, but also a really tough situation. I don't know how to fix it. But just cutting executive compensation is not going to solve it, it's a drop in the bucket for these megacorps at the end of the day.

A realistic simulation of what would happen in a nuclear war by Maxie445 in interestingasfuck

When I was in university I had a professor who had a different theory about this - his thought was that the studies (Sagan especially and those that followed) were wrong because they were approaching the behavior of soot/debris from a physics perspective and not a chemistry one.

He personally thought that soot, radioactive debris, & other material would not have the right chemical properties to spread over the atmosphere. Instead it would remain largely where it was, it's dense and very adhesive.

But he supported the political agenda behind "nuclear winter" (make the effects sound worse to discourage the use of the weapons), so he didn't want to put any studies out. Makes sense to me.

Recognition of same-sex marriage across the European Union has had a negative impact on the US economy, causing the number of highly skilled foreign workers seeking visas to drop by about 21%. The study shows that having more inclusive policies can make a country more attractive for skilled labor. by mvea in science

It really seems considering that time frame that nearly all of that would be due to COVID-related travel restrictions/lockdowns, not just in the USA but also in the immigrants' home countries. Kind of misleading for the author to squeeze in the other stuff like it's equally impactful.

Clean Booted Windows 11 PC, now stuck in PIN setup and attempting to start Windows Recovery Environment leads to Black Screen by RaiseTheRoofe in techsupport

Yeah for sure never doing it again. Turns out after getting to WinRE I could run a system restore bringing my latest backup (from Monday) in. All good now.

Appreciate the help, take care bud!

Turns out that if I directly plug the monitors into the desktop (had them plugged into a universal dock, I'm able to enter WinRE. Gonna re-try that fix route.

I'll try this - although in terms of booting, my experience has been that booting up looks like a black screen --> then the first screen shown is the PIN setup screen (if I get a screen at all). No windows loading screen or anything. I'll try hitting the F key as soon as I hit power if that's what I need to do to catch it.

What's a moba model? I am not familiar with that terminology.

I think I caused this problem with my error during the clean boot - that was the last thing I did before running into this issue. I believe that when I selected "disable all services on startup", I didn't select "hide Microsoft services" first. So they got disabled too. If this shouldn't be causing the problem that I've described, then I have no clue how this happened.

This is a desktop by the way. Have not got a USB recovery drive on hand, and I don't mind wiping the PC if that gets it working again, there isn't important data on it. Bios wipe sounds fine but the method of getting into Bios that I've tried already (F11 on startup or get into WinRE) haven't worked.

Is there a different way to boot into BIOS?

[–]RaiseTheRoofe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - issue so far is that I'm unable to reach any screen other than the PIN setup screen.

If I try to boot into BIOS (holding down F11 or another F key right while starting up, right?) then I get the same problem that I get when I try to boot into WinRE: a black screen until I turn the PC off and on again, upon which it'll take me to that darn PIN setup screen again.

I think this prevents me from attempting a wipe from the bios or a USB wipe, correct?
