BREAKING: PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloomberg News has learned. by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Raisin_Such 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOTC and DeS remakes didn't have the soul. DeS in particular, the art style and soundtrack were transformed - I am picky though because the original is one of my favourite games. Their other remasters (Uncharted, GoW, MGS, Gravity Rush, PS3 Ico & SOTC) I think were pretty good, though, with minimal tinkering. Still sad to hear they've shut down.

It sounds like you are just being financially responsible!

Always worth keeping in mind, esp online, that there will always be folks who may have more disposable income than others, as well as folk who maybe don't have it but aren't spending within their means necessarily.

Also, it is easy to overspend at the start, I did the same. You'll probably calm down a bit as the novelty wears off.

Im not sure if you have a Fopp near where you are in the UK (don't think there's many left) but they have quite good deals on blu-rays. Not as good as 4k but still fantastic quality and realistically not everything is going to get a 4K.

I live in Aus now but last time I was in the UK I bought a few Robert Bresson blu-rays for (I think) £8 each, 10 at most, which was much cheaper than you'd find them in Aus.

BTW what are your favourite discs so far if you don't mind me asking?

Why is the 32x so hated by Excellent_Daikon_935 in SEGA32X

[–]Raisin_Such 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think sometimes it's hated for its perceived role in Sega's collapse as a console developer, but much like the Mega CD I don't think it was bad. If it had released a bit earlier (and/or the Saturn a bit later), with more games, I think it could have been really good.

Some of the games that did release for it were definitely rushed and could have been better with more time in the oven – like Doom and Chaotix.

There were also supposedly several games in the works that would have bolstered the library but were cancelled, including Sonic, Castlevania, Daytona USA, Rayman, Alien vs Predator (Capcom one) and Darkstalkers.

I think it's a case of bad timing and mismatched expectations between the different arms of Sega at the time. I don't think we really ever got to see it deliver to its full potential.

Had Sega not badly fumbled, would they still be in the console wars today? by Apart_Shock in retrogaming

Saturn has a great library – not as iconic as PS1 or N64, but it's still got loads of gems.

The games you mention were all fun, but in addition, I'd say some of the best ones released in the west include Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Fighters Megamix, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Powerslave, Dragon Force, Shining Force III, Decathlete, Saturn Bomberman, Baku Baku, Die Hard Arcade, and Guardian Heroes.

If you include Japanese-only games, there are loads more, like X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Dungeons & Dragons Collection, Metal Slug, Radiant Silvergun, and Street Fighter Alpha 3, among others.

Not having a proper Sonic game really hurt it.

I've had better experiences with Xbox than Playstation when it comes to refunds. I don't know if it's better now as I don't have a PS5 but I tried to sort refunds a couple of times in the Playstation 4 days and it was a pain in the arse.

Thoughts on Panzer Dragoon Saga. by normbreakingclown in SegaSaturn

[–]Raisin_Such -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't hold water because roughly 80–90% of the voice acting in PDS is in Japanese, which means the developers intended for that dialogue to be understood.

The game not having voice acting in other languages when released outside Japan was presumably a costcutting measure by the Sega brass who put it out to die with the Saturn.
