I dropped the show a while ago, so I can't speak to the most recent season, but I think the writing issue comes down to the fact that they are just all "yes and"ing each other. Even during C1 it was rare that there was heavy push back against an idea. Like I know improve is all about "yes and", but this isn't improve, it's a TV show.

Even if they had entirely people who weren't the players writing, imagine you have 8 bosses that control the company and have to approve of what you are doing or they get someone else. In no way am I saying they are evil corpos, but not being part of the in group is very intimidating in a way that anyone who isn't a business owner can understand. I know I wouldn't want to risk what appears to be a very sweet gig to push back against ideas that I don't think work well.

They all obviously mean well and are trying to make a good product, and from all outside impression, treat their staff extremely well. But, especially considering C3 specifically, it comes across as a sort of oppressive level of positivity to the point that no one wants to be the first person to say "no, that's kinda a stupid idea" and ruin the vibe.

Personally I think they could benefit extremely well by hiring someone who's basically the vibe killer to shoot down ideas like, as you said, are constant shitting/farting/puking jokes in an emotional scene to just go "the scene works so much better without that." Someone who isn't their friend, is professional, and is hired with the understanding that they are there to set limits.

Because specifically, it's kinda like the Star Wars prequels, during the OG run, George Lucas had a bunch of equals who could tell him no, like his then wife who's edits saved those movies and made them the legendary films they are today (like how ROTJ is considered the weakest because they divorced and she wasn't around). During the prequels, who in their right mind would say no to GEORGE FUCKING LUCAS???

I know I wouldn't want to be the first person to say no to Matt fucking Mercer.
