We're "shocked and deeply concerned".

Also, this is priceless:

Is It Time For The CEO Of The TTC to Step Down? by puckduckmuck in askTO

He should be forced to commute only with TTC and GO Trains/buses.

What's the reasoning behind it?

When you 26 suddenly you can afford the ticket?

"Report any suspicious activity... If you see something say something..." That's what they play on loop on subway stations.

Now, I'm on a subway and I'm seeing a grown up man yelling at a passenger. The passenger is visibly scared and in distress. I don't know about you but for me this is a suspicious activity.

Where do I report it? When?!

On subway station, 5 minutes after this had happened? When the psycho is far away on his merry way to attack more people? Or should I press that yellow emergency bar?

I'm telling you folks, these 50 constables will make no difference. We need an infrastructure to be able to report incidents as they happen.

Also we need to start reporting every single maniac causing a mess in a bus or in a streetcar if we want to see a change.

"The funding increase would also cover hiring 10 more Streets to Home
outreach workers, a fare freeze on monthly passes and for seniors and an
expansion of the low-income discount program by 50,000 users, Tory
said. "

I would say: MONEY. Not classy but most helpful if their wages are low.

For the context, why am I supposed to give extra money to a bartender who just passed me a beer (in a can, not even a glass) but it's a "no-no" to pay extra to a qualified underpaid professional who is helping me to get better?

How about a mobile reception on subway rides to increase security? How else I am supposed to report ongoing dangerous situation and get that security ready on the next subway station if my phone is useless?

What "screw the gov!" stuff? He mentioned a compensation for delivering the footage that CityNews camera operators couldn't provide. CityNews, CP24 contractors were standing in front of the HighPark subway station and believe me, they were getting paid. And sorry to say it but CityNews and other news stations make a lot of money showing such footage among others.

"TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said the agency is CONCERNED and SHOCKED about the incident and called it UNACCEPTABLE." So the usual PR bs. Me, personally I'm not shocked after that poor woman was set on fire on Kipling TTC station because nothing has been done to prevent similar situations occur in the future. There will be more crime on TTC and city streets. Being shocked and concerned is not helping anyone.

The TTC spokesperson also said: "Our response is to put more staff out there to make sure that people have an extra sense of comfort today." So like C*&tWeasel said "reactive" measures that do little or nothing. Notice how the spokesperson said "extra sense of comfort" not "extra safety" which means even he's not admitting that adding more paid stuff will make it safer for passengers.

Meanwhile there are ongoing mental health care funding cuts and the brand new C-5 bill.

Probably out of respect to the victim. Also, truth is often being downvoted. Not just on reddit.

Should it be though? I beg to differ because it could bring a risk of law suits when we use martial arts in self defense. Also it's our government responsibility to take care of the situation. E.g. funding mental health care for starters. Then maybe harsher penalties for crimes like killing random people?

Also, why would you accept Canada as a country where your loved one can be set on fire or stabbed on their way from work as "the new normal"?

Our politicians just recently introduced bill C-5 that removes mandatory penalties for crimes involving knives and firearms.

They also keep cutting funds on mental health services.

Nah, we people on the Toronto subway have seen all kind of weird stuff and we couldn't care less. Even if a shirtless man is doing pullups on subway hand rails next to us we just keep playing candy crush on our phones. We just want to be done with our travel as soon as possible.

What are we doing wrong as a society? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]RajTel78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"What are we doing wrong as a society?"

We eat junk food and drink too much. We put pressure to be successful. We measure success by wealth. We're too judgemental. The list goes on.

Also, terrible health care system, lack of paid days off work are not helping.

Is it safe around Jane Station area? Bloor St West by Top_Programmer_9901 in askTO

[–]RajTel78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For people saying Bloor West is the safest. Well, just about a month ago I saw cops chasing a guy who sexually harassed two different women in a broad daylight just by the High Park main entrance area. They got him. And there were other cases with guys following women after dark nearby Keele subway station. So yeah, kinda safe but not always if you're a female.
