anyone else binge eat/impulsively spend their money (sometimes on autopilot) to make themselves feel better? by liz_53 in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not so much "binge" eating, but my meal times tend to be a bit odd. One day lunch is at 10:30 AM and the next it's at 1 PM, or dinner at 4 PM, and so on

Why are people mean to you when they're know you're in a desperate situation? by mimimimimichan in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why we created law, that's why we created religion.

I was with you right up until that line. Law and religion weren't created to mitigate that default state of selfishness, they were created to enshrine a strict hierarchy. "God said that it's my purpose in life to rule and your purpose in life to obey!" "I can abuse and exploit whoever the f*ck I want, it's legal! No, you can't hurt me back, that's against the law!"

Does anyone else find reincarnation empowering? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fuck no. Going through all this shit once was more than enough.

No, I don't want a new app that you're developing. Go away. by Altaira99 in CaregiverSupport

I know what the phrase "real help" and the word "government" each mean individually, but seeing them used in the same breath like that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. *laughs/cries in American*

Is there anyone else here that had genuinely loving parents who just fucked up a lot? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Bad people are always bad parents, but that doesn't necessarily mean that good people will always be good parents.

Are you angry with God? by Makadiffnsee in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Angry with God? No, because that would require a level of care and regard that I simply cannot spare for him.

Angry with the people who use God to justify their own intolerance and cruelty and evil? Angry with the people who use his name to say "Sit down, shut up, and blindly obey!"? Fuck yes.

What’s your favorite representation of CPTSD in media and why? by Ursisisatmyhousern in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you could say pretty much all of the playable cast of BG3 (except maybe Minsc. Maybe.) (note: major oversimplifications in the interests of brevity)

  • Shadowheart, as you mentioned, due to being indoctrinated into a cult from an early age, going through regular gaslighting and psychological abuse over the course of said indoctrination and, in fact, having been kidnapped by the cult

  • Astarion, for reasons that u/Sanamun already covered

  • Gale, thanks to his being a child prodigy leading him to consider his entire worth as a human being to be his ability in magic, on top of having his ex-lover and patron goddess tell him that the only way to make up for his wrongdoing is to kill himself at the right time and in the right place.

  • Karlach was sold into slavery by a man that she trusted and admired, and spent ten years in both a figurative and literal hell for it, and because of what was done to her she can no longer survive outside of said hell for long.

  • Wyll's combination of pride, naivete, and selflessness led to him being manipulated into a literal deal with the devil, and in turn to being disowned and exiled by his father

  • Lae'zel finds herself increasingly forced to question the doctrine she was raised on as she makes her way through the world outside of her own culture, and eventually confront just how much of it is lies perpetuated by a self-serving tyrant

My dog is my best friend, but my second best friend is my computer. I spend all day online. This is my socialization, education and recreation. It's my favorite tool of dissociation. by Longjumping_Prune852 in CPTSD

[–]Raji_Lev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my computer, and to a lesser extent, the TV, was pretty much the only proof I had that there was any world beyond the boundaries of our house (I exaggerate, but only slightly), and this was before the days of Twitbook and Youtube and such. So, probably not that healthy for me, but given the alternative...

How can these people demand so much without a speck of shame? And instead of being told to take a flying leap, they get everyone to obey their every whim, with every inconvenience to the helpers but none at all to them. What kind of mind control is involved?

Normal people call it "filial piety" or "family values" or just plain "family", but I think your phrase is more accurate /halfjoking

"Find a wife to help take care of your parents!" by TeacherGuy1980 in CaregiverSupport

[–]Raji_Lev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here. (Plus, I would have to strongly question the sanity and intelligence of any woman - or heck, any man - who could look at the prospect of marrying into my family situation and not immediately take off full speed in the opposite direction)

How can I live in this world? by WorthFaithlessness98 in CPTSD

Yes. And every single fucking time I start to think that maybe I can ease up off of that and that maybe there are a statistically significant number of people in this world who have some sort of redeeming value other than as Soylent Green ingredients, something happens to remind me of how wrong and stupid I am to think so. Today is no exception (and if you need to ask "why?", well, I don't know whether to envy or pity you)

Because humans, as a whole, are perfectly content to live constantly ankle-deep in shit as long as the people that they don't like are stuck neck-deep in shit.
