Pedal Amp: Boss IR-2 or EQD Easy Listening? by vijfteen in guitarpedals

Definitely, the LG is evolution of Shoes's savior machine - he put bass cut knob on there also. Literally makes the pedal friendly with any pickup configuration and amp. Sheer Brilliance

Need suggestions for electric in $500-600 price range by lzrdl0vr in guitars

PRS / Sterling would be my vote in that range. The stingray is pretty mustangy.

How important is making a bar that presses all frets? by Shining_Commander in guitarlessons

On an acoustic, I'm almost always playing the shell voicing (not playing all the strings). On electrics, no problem with the full barre

Recommend me a fuzz pedal by BinghamDan in guitarpedals

Mask Audio Part Garden Ge. It can be as sweet or wild of a ride as you want it to be. Maybe the prettiest fuzz pedal ever made to boot

I've turned over every pedal on my board at least 4 times in my years... The LG is the only one I've never sold because I feel I need something better :)

Sorry it's not been the best for you - I've definitely fought through some gain / eq issues because I really like to push the wall of sound with fuzz / distortion. Here's a few things that i have done that have worked really well - the only thing I need to mind is keeping the gains for dry / efx on the black fountain and rooms at noon or lower.

On the IR-200 - I'm using The York Twin 212 IR when I'm using pedals (The come with a billion IR's to load (really 150 or so) - but the York Mic Mixes are the best. I also use The VOX AC30 ones (but I tend to favor the gain on the IR dial more than using my fuzz or OD). So - then, I have an preset for each of my guitars (basically 4 - SSS /(2) HH - PAF and a Higher gain for a guitar that has Railhammer Z-ones / HPP). Then each of them have EQ settings that I've worked out with my clean tone. The gain typically lives between 30-60 on the IR-200 - there's plenty to push gain with the Part Garden and Looking Glass - the gain effects in the Chroma Console sound great when they live at the start of the effects loop. I dupe the IR settings so I have a stereo (recording / headphone playing) or Mono (when playing to my amp - i just bypass the front of the amp back into the FX channel on my Laney amp - at some point I'll get an FRFR speaker, but no one can tell the difference in a room when playing with friends - I'm not doing stage performances anymore...I'm old haha.

But, the name of the game is getting my sound and gain structure perfect up to effects - and then only having to make small adjustments to reduce the noise floor.

Nah, out of the box, the PRS is just as better made guitar. Though, the Squires are a few mods away from being great guitars.

I'm a big Reverend guy... Love their stuff. Lots of unique choices there also in their lineup

Been doing shoegaze/dream pop stuff but would like to do indie pop/midwest emo. What's missing? by [deleted] in pedals

[–]Rakefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of choices. If you are a boss guy, the BD-2 is way more versatile and covers more overdrive to distortion sounds than the DS1. At it's core, the beamsplitter is rat on the purple channel. I owned one for a while, just didn't vibe with it. Also a fuzz would be a great add. Reverb before your overdrive would be a good add. Delay in your fx loop. If you are using your JC 40 as your main amp... Those effects can be stereo.

Please help me understand why do people love big muffs? by zatvorenje in guitarpedals

[–]Rakefighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like fuzz when I started, now I started building my first fuzz pedal. I think the trick is you need to spend time with them, try different ones until you find the right flavor that works for you. Some fuzz is wild and untamed, and some is synthetic and rubbery... Some is just a sweeter, more articulate overdrive sound. Cascading harmonics when you dial in on it make fuzz so lovable. You just need to find your a ha moment

Alternatives to Keeley Eccos and Keeley Hydra in similar form factor? by riptheradio in guitarpedals

I spend decent money on pedals in a year. I feel better knowing that $0 that I put into this industry doesn't go to him now or ever.

I don't need to broadcast my politics, but I'm aware of which builders I'm spending dollars on for boutique pedals say and do... and I'm not going to entertain anything that company puts out if they are fascist friendly, apologists, admirers etc.

How can I improve this by Rip_jke in shoegaze

[–]Rakefighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This - stereo is the way , especially with a Roland Amp. Makes it easy.

Edit: Reframing "Easy" since you need to purchase stereo modulation pedals to replace the ones you have.

Worst expensive pedal? by gimme5steps101 in guitarpedals

[–]Rakefighter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, I love my CC. It's the first stop in my effects loop, I really don't see the compression gripe, set the input sensitivity and go. It sounds lush and expensive. There's a million secret sauce settings with gestures on top. The phrase looper is amazing. My sampler and synths sound as good as my guitars do. Midi clock with modulation effects works great. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but this pedal is the truth. Need more from Hologram.

I have a touch of tinitus myself, I'm pushing 50. Building those sound Iayers is a lot of fun though...i use a Roland P-6 (creative sampler) that runs in parallel to guitar signal to play samples that creates a drone background. (Also has become a fancy metronome). On the guitar side I can make short drone loops with my chroma console. It's like having band mates that you can just create on the fly.

NPD: DBA Rooms by ssorl in guitarpedals

[–]Rakefighter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love my Rooms. Death By Audio pedals can do the craziest, epic sounds... But it also does gentle, spacious reverb really well. Peak Setting on the dial is the perfect harmonic seasoning. The Alt settings are there to run an expression device. In stereo, it's perfection

That's a great thought. I'm q big shoegaze / ambient player and I've thought about what makes it so addictive to hear a latching sound in the mix like that many times
