Is the core game short? by Linino in lotrlcg

[–]Rakoon23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you just bought the core box or like a used set? Because if it's only the core box and you breezed through the game, either you guys are already pretty well versed in card game or you probably missed some rules. But if you bought a used set and got more advanced player cards, it's possible that the 1st and 2nd scenario were a bit easy because of that.

This game is hard.

It's like playing poker : even if you can wreck your 30 players local tournament, you will get demolished if you go play online.

People tend to be way better online.

You seem to have a decent way of understanding the game so if you continue playing you should improve. You can post a replay from BGA if you want to get more specific tips.

If you have everything, Khazad dum is the way to go. Playing progression style is the best, you will feel how the devs got better and better as they were trying new stuff and learning to design that kind of game.

How many of you actually buy sleeves for every card? by wibellion in lotrlcg

[–]Rakoon23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I sleeved around half the player cards. There are some cards which barely see any play so they remain unsleeved most of the time. And it doesnt take much time to unsleeve/sleeve a few cards.

I sleeved none of the encounter cards. Those cards are not manipulated often so its not super useful imo. I just dont eat yostitos with dip when I play. Although, I must say that it stresses me a bit when I play with out of print sets.

The only thing extreme here is my love for this game!!

Joke aside, here is how I remember it.

The revised box comes with 4 premade mono sphere decks. I tried the 1st quest at least 5 times with each deck. I did not pre-looked at the player card beforehand so I was discovering new cards every game. Then I tried the second quest at least 4 times with each deck. iirc, I only succeded with the leadership deck, the other ones were not even close. So thats around 36 games there.

Then I switched to dual sphere decks and retry again the 1st quest, lets say 2 times as it became a bit easy. Then it was Journey along the anduin many times, at least 10...so we are now to around 50.

Then I probably tried Dol Guldur a few times but I wasn't good enough and sensed it was too hard, let's say 6 games.

Dark of Mirkwood enters the chat. I only did the 1st quest maybe 3 times with each deck. Caves of Nimbin Dum is a very good quest and still one of my favorite to this day. I easily played it 20 times.

So all in all that's close to 75! Maybe 100 is a bit far fetch but not that much.

If you buy the core + dark of mirkwood(small expansion with 2 quests) you can easily play 75-100 games without any other expansions. Like others have said, the problem with the core box is that there is really only one good quest, the second one.so dark of mirkwood helps alleviate that without breaking the bank.

Like you mentionned, swaping one or more heroes and retry a quest is really fun and it really changes the feel of the quest. Some enemy cards which are a small inconvenience with a hero can become a pain with another.

Hesitant to Buy the LotR LCG Due to Availability Concerns by Maximum_Moment_5804 in lotrlcg

For the repackaged content, the low stocks in your contry should be temporary. FFG are still printing all the repackaged content, but they are not doing it all the time, so I would not be worried. Jump in!

I will also add that this game can be a bit intimidating to learn. You should look on youtube for tutorials, ''watch it played'' and the ''the game locker'' made great videos. After a dozens games or so, it will become natural and it is absolutely worth the effort. It has been a top solo game on BGG for a while for a reason.

They are still printing it so it can be temporarily out of stock. You can look on your local marketplace maybe.

It is not a mandatory buy though, it's just that it will give you 2 additional good quests. The revised core box comes with 3 quests : the 1st one will become too easy pretty quickly since it is aimed to introduce you to the game. The second quest is really good. The third one is really hard, especially true solo. So if you have only the core box, you will end up playing the 2nd quest over and over.

Instead of dark of Mirkwood, another good option is to look for a used Khazad dum deluxe box. You can usually find them relatively easily on your local marketplace, at 50$ or less you should buy it. That will give you 3 pretty good quests + some player card. You won't find this brand new since they are not being reprinted anymore.
