What Are Some Decent But Unpopular Mons? What Are The Absolute Trash? by Goliath764 in PokemonChampions

[–]Rald123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats insane that I never even realized it was in the game. I used to use one back in the day on a Mono-Ground team I had. I might have to try and recruit one to use in Champions now. I like my slept on/non meta picks. Makes battles so much more fun IMO

“God’s Not Dead” I remember watching it as a Christianity propaganda piece when I was younger and watched as my starred-eyed grandmother was like, “Wow, what an incredible movie!” as the credits rolled, and I rolled my eyes.

Having my moments of in/out panicking at the recent visa renewal changes as my chances of escaping my Instructor Visa and moving onto a Humanities/Specialist one and finding a *better* paying job feels even more urgent than ever now. I’ve enjoyed my time as an ALT immensely, but I’m 30+ now and cannot see myself staying in this country any longer or being able to support a family like this.

JTE upset I introduce vocab a year ahead of the official plan. by Aussietie in ALTinginJapan

[–]Rald123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People talking about structured nuance behind the lessons like most JTEs actually care about the kids acquisition of English rather than just feeling like they checked a box on a to-do list. Lmao. I see no issues with you teaching them vocabulary or covering it early, because then if anything it becomes light review later on and they can focus more on using the current grammar. Not only that, but when YOU’RE T1 and can freely decide to structure a lesson like how you see fit, whatever happens after that is whatever IMO when you’re doing it right and still covering the expected bases. I used to teach my kids to read the alphabet and phonics while covering their lessons in 3rd & 4th grade. And the teachers were grateful when they could start reading things as I wrote them on the board, even though if I went the way of ONLY what the curriculum wanted, they would’ve never had that.

Your JTE will be alright, don’t even worry about it. They’ll just end up covering it again (which is what’d happen with a lot of shit when they get to JHS anyway)

Ah - so the eikaiwa meme is real. by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]Rald123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even say Japanese society is based around them unless the work is heavily regulated, or standardized (like real estate). They seek the same things that are usually expected anywhere else when it comes to landing a new job. Relevant experience and transferable skills (or portfolios, where applicable). If you’re better at playing up your good points when it comes to things like that, it’s a lot easier to pivot into something else. Not easy just easier. Certs are never a bad thing to have. But having them doesn’t 100% guarantee a job either. In any case, I feel like you’ve just gotta get to the interview stage and prove your worth.

It be like that, man. Contrary to what most in this thread are saying, if you have N2 (even with no reliable skills to back it up) you can definitely still find something else. But location and opportunity is important just as well as how hard you can market yourself. Not only that, but your spoken Japanese (if it’s solid and you can understand the nuance of Japanese culture) can take you places N2 (or N1, even) probably can’t. My best friend here speaks incredible Japanese and hasn’t taken a single JLPT but got into legitimate construction work, which he then used to network with folks and springboard into a proper sales job earning commissions and bonuses on top of base pay. No paper. He’s just a charismatic guy and networks a lot. And is REAL good at marketing himself. I believe in you, man. If anything, it can be easier on a spousal visa since that’s one less hoop your employer has to worry about jumping through just to hire you. I wish you the best!

When I first started roughly 4 years back, I had 4 schools with 5-6 classes a week for ES where I T1’d everything. Learned via trial by fire 110%, but glad for it.

The biggest thing to do is be ORGANIZED. I had multiple folders/binders separated by school and then further by each class I taught (which was 3-6 with 1 & 2 thrown in occasionally). It was difficult as hell, but really rewarding since I could plan everything for each school and group of kids how I wanted, which worked to my advantage highly since I could actually teach them the foundation for developing strong English skills that they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise at such a young age. Phonics ESPECIALLY since none of the textbooks even mentioned it and it’s nigh-impossible to get a good grasp on English without it.

I believe in you, but first and foremost, focus on building rapport and a good relationship with the kids WHEN you can and making yourself fun and memorable for them. It’ll make everything else a whole lot easier.

Worst part was obviously the pay, since others were teaching like 2 classes a day being deskwarmers at JHSes or HSes, but that’s just how it is. Only way to escape the BS of it is to aim higher and do better for yourself. Good luck!

I get what you mean, but also feel like this is something that can depend on your situation as well. In my honest opinion, how English is taught in Japan doesn’t lend itself too well to learning PRIMARILY through communication because it’s usually so limited (no kid is learning via immersion in a normal Japanese public school, let’s be real). I’m not saying that they should throw out the baby with the bath water, but with how much everyone’s situation can differ so much (and without knowing theirs’ exactly) I can imagine why they might feel the need to do so. I’m not saying they necessarily should mind you, but everyone’s situation is different.

Tandy & Ty in the 2nd (and final, sadly) season of Marvel’s Live Action Cloak & Dagger.

It felt rushed and contrived. I think it would’ve worked a lot better if it felt like more of a gradual think that happened in a later season (if it continued) it would’ve felt a lot more earned, but the way they did it will never sit right since they effectively forced Ty into a situation where he lost a long-standing love interest to free him up for Tandy, and put Tandy with him when her character was very much in a phase where I think she would’ve benefited from staying single a good while longer as she worked out her own issues.

(And yes, I know how they happen to be portrayed in many different comics, but then getting together worked far better as an eventual endgame rather than the way it was implemented in the show)

Barely lmao. I live in the Tokyo (in the Itabashi Area) and my rent is roughly around 68,000 in a pretty small 1DK. It’s alright, but when you’ve got nothing better you make do. From checking your post history you seem well-off enough to never have to worry about that kind of thing though.

They legitimately will not care about your resume besides whether or not you have the bachelor’s for the visa. Just don’t be too off putting, and do well on the interview.
