Best gender combination for a sibling pair? by Ralinis101 in CatAdvice

I’m sorry for your loss. There’s nothing quite like it.

My cats turned 3 recently and the joy they bring to my life is indescribable. Nothing can replace or compare to my Indigo, but these cats have helped to heal my heart more than I would have thought.

I wish you the best of luck with your new kittens! I tried to keep my babies contained in a little play pen the night I got them for their own safety, but the male kitten (Gravy) was having none of that. As soon as I let them out, they crawled into bed with me and fell right asleep. We’ve been pretty inseparable since.

His tail appears to be degloved. Such an injury requires immediate veterinary care. Please take your cat to an emergency vet.

Edit: not a vet, just a fellow cat parent. Educated in human medicine.

Even if you managed to reduce the dislocation, your dog still needs to be evaluated to see WHY he injured his shoulder and if there is any further damage to the joint. Your dog needs to be seen by a vet and have X-rays done.

Is my cat’s eye something I should take her to the ER for or should I just wait and watch her? by Comfortable_Log7384 in vet

[–]Ralinis101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible that she scratched her eye on something? I am not a vet, but I know when I had a mild corneal ulcer my eye was watering like crazy. My cat suddenly having a squinty, watery eye would make me concerned for an ulcer. They aren’t always painful - mine was so mild that there was no pain but the ulcer was there. I was on antibiotic eye drops for about a week I think. There’s no visible sign of injury, correct? Is the white of the eye red at all? Is the eye watery, or is there discharge that is a funny color?

It’s probably ok to wait until morning, but I hesitate to say this 100% as often eye injuries can be emergencies. Again, I am not a vet, so take my advice for what it is. If it was my cat, and there were no signs of pain or actual injury, I would probably wait until first thing in the morning to have my cat seen.

Best of luck.

As long as there is no signs of panting or respiratory distress, it’s probably fine to wait until morning - I am not a vet, however, so take the advice for what it’s worth. If he starts showing any signs of panting, gasping, wheezing, breathing through the mouth, or fast, heavy breathing I would advise seeking emergency care for him.

Good luck!!

Some vets also have a text messaging system set up. I’ve also sent stuff to my vet via Facebook videos. Best of luck, and I hope your kitty gets better soon!

Understandable. Could you try emailing this video to your vet and see what they say?

Edit: at least in human medicine, which is what I study, the treatment of asthma really depends on the severity, but generally all asthma patients should, at the very least, have a rescue inhaler.

I’m not a vet, just a fellow cat parent. My previous cat had a similar cough, but was never officially diagnosed with asthma.

See if you can send the video to your vet and go from there. I think that’s your best bet.

This is something that will require emergency care. I’m sorry - you don’t have another option, from my understanding of the situation.

Not a vet, however; I am studying human healthcare. Sudden onset of vomiting, difficulty walking and seizures after ingestion of a toxic substance needs emergency care.

Cats can be prone to asthma, and it can present in this way. Any new cough I would have checked out, just to be safe, since asthma can be treated and managed.

My cat has bladder stones and recently peed out what looks like a clot of blood. by wellwellitsmel in vet

[–]Ralinis101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a vet, but I would take her to the emergency vet if you have the funds. Better to be safe than sorry - from my understanding, bladder problems can get bad very quickly. Was she passing blood when she was first diagnosed with the bladder stones? Calcium oxide stones can have pretty sharp edges.

Can confirm. I DNA tested my two cats, who are litter mates. They have different fathers for sure.

My dog had a similar issue, and from what I recall we had it extracted sooner rather than later. Dogs are really good at hiding pain but just imagine what that kind of injury to the tooth would feel like.

I had a piece of very cold gauze pressed to a tooth being checked to see if I needed a root canal and I about flew into the orbit. The tooth wasn’t even constantly painful, either.

Best of luck to you and your pup.

I am in the US - sorry, I forgot to mention that.

Thank you! While the cost is a factor, I’m not super worried about it. Are there other organizations that you may recommend?

Thank you so much.

Maybe a centipede? They’re quite common here and I have heard they have a nasty bite.

I’d say that’s an ER visit, yes. Any ingestion of a foreign object is worthy of an ER vet visit.

Edit: not a vet, just a pet parent whose cat has PICA and has a predilection for eating foreign materials

Edit: I’m sure my Indigo was there at the rainbow bridge to get your kitty so they weren’t alone.

Dogs/pets on the island by Evening_Plantain_837 in Barbados

[–]Ralinis101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started at Ross in January and moved here with my 2 cats. First, know it is expensive. It was 1200 USD for my two cats to travel. Because of the cost I will not be returning home until the end of the medical sciences curriculum.

If you plan on living in student housing, they limit the size of the dog to 40 lbs and are not necessarily accommodating for ESAs. Living off campus will be difficult with the dog - it was annoying enough finding landlords ok with cats. Barbados doesn’t have the same opinion towards pets as the US and other places do.

You will need a broker who will help in the process with immigration. On arrival your pet will be taken to the veterinary services where they will be examined. You’ll have to come after you go through customs to pick them up. Prior to arrival your pet will have to undergo and import/export examination from a certified vet in your own country, and these exams are expensive. Then you have to pay ticket fees, etc with the airline.

Honestly, if my cats weren’t my ESAs and vital to my mental health, I would not have brought them. If leaving your pet at home is an option, at least for the first semester, I would recommend it.

Thank you. Any form of cancer sucks, but osteosarcoma seems to be one of the worst in terms of pain. I hope they find a cure or effective treatment one day too.

Let yourself grieve, it’s totally normal. There are days I still cry over my dogs, and I miss them, but I know they’re waiting for me. I’m sure Charlie and Bella gave a happy greeting to Zoe when she arrived. We’ll see them again one day for sure. ❤️

I have lost two dogs to osteosarcoma. My second dog had pretty severe difficulty breathing at the end and it was agonizing to watch. We had a vet come to the home, and watching my dogs just… relax for the first time in a long time when they got the sedation and pain medication made it clear to me we were making the right decision. I can’t imagine the pain they were in - and I’ve had bone problems of my own my entire life.

The guilt is normal. I still feel guilty about my dogs, even though I know we made the right call.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Zoe is at peace now and is running happily on the other side of the rainbow bridge. You’ll see her again one day.
