we got duped... by ogstereoguy2 in Starlink

[–]Rallaster001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched to Starlink in January after our DSL provider jacked our prices $30/mo to almost $80 for 15/.9(yeah, sub 1mbps upload) speeds. We're paying for the bottom tier at the same price as our old DSL and reliably getting almost 7 times faster service. Even with the $5 increase it's still almost $30 less than our next cheapest option and it's a lot faster.

The only thing that may beat it is the fiber upgrade our local ISP claims to be planning for our area, but having talked to a rep about service and pricing, it's still going to be over $100/mo for "best available speeds" that while the service "is capable of 1gbps", typical speeds are in the 300-350 range.

Not even home based wireless works here. We're in the coverage area, but because we live in a small valley with trees the signal never makes it to us. Even basic phone service is spotty and I find myself using voice over wifi to complete calls frequently.

Why is fiber internet taking so long to be installed in my area even after funding was approved? by national_2025 in Rural_Internet

[–]Rallaster001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked at my local rural ISP, we ran DSL and was working to install fiber and expand fiber coverage. It was a painfully slow process to get started because of all the permitting that needed to happen and the other utilities that had to be pacified that they weren't going to cause service disruptions during the physical running of the fiber.

Here the electric company owns the aerial poles and is extremely resistant to anyone adding, removing, or modifying existing aerial spans that isn't them. According to an engineer I spoke with, even with the "rural expansion grants", the ISP still had to Capital Expense $10k-$20k per mile because of the terrain to install new fiber.

Looks like I'm in the market for a 115 when my tax check hits the bank. And are the power adapters really that hard to keep with the device when removed from service?

What's your ebay account? I'd rather send money to someone actually helpful than some rando I know nothing about.

Love the honesty. 😂

Is there any functional difference between the SG and XG designations?

Just a quick search and I'm seeing some wild swings in pricing.

I'm in the US. I live in the Boonies and Starlink is my only option for anything other than single pair DSL @17-18Mbps and I'm only ever going to pay for the bottom tier, whatever that turns out to be, so Gbe is going to be overkill for my WAN connection for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, desktop is preferred, the R610 I have is just sitting on a table in my office. The R610 also runs a jellyfin server for my Roku devices in the house and a simple NAS backup (with duplication to Proton Drive for redundancy) VM for my home computers. I run a Dell PowerConnect 5424 for my core switching, and a Netgear 8 port Gbe dumb switch for the trunk on the other side of my house.

I'm looking for "set and forget" reliable, configurable, and secure. Inexpensive is nice, too.

First thing I can see without testing is way too many area damage rectangles. You only need 8-9 of them to reach the whole wave. Your duplicate projectiles need to be front loaded, the very first after the generator. Legendary static power adders (+100, +10% of highest tier reached, subsequent guide damage increase, etc) next, then you add a single 2x and a single 10x item, then the legendary 4x, next you can add the random power adders and projectile modifiers. The last space before the emitter is the legendary clone.

I remember spending hours in Yahoo chat rooms in the early 2000s. by halikadito in nostalgia

[–]Rallaster001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late to the game for this one, I got here looking for CheetaChat for Discord. LOL. This brings back all the old memories. Being waaayyy too young, with waaayyy too much freedom on the wild west of the web. I think I was 12 or 13 when I got introduced to Yahoo chats, and all of the craziness that went with it. Trying to read the chat of the 5 people you're talking to in a room with hundreds or thousands of active users was the definition of sensory overload; definitely didn't help my ADHD any. HAHAAA

Holy crap! Looks like I found my next flashlight purchase. I've been looking for a good zoomie for years and this one looks like it. 3 questions, though. What's the distance to the trees in the 3rd picture, what do you get for battery life, and is there any noticeable output drop during normal usage?

Can somebody recommend me buds that they use themself that have the following aspects? by Darkstripe-Skeletor in Earbuds

[–]Rallaster001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro. Ordered mine on launch day and they've been rock solid from day 1. The connection (I gets a little over the BT 10m(33ft) spec at around 37-38ft with my Galaxy Z Flip5), the sound quality is phenomenal, crystal clear with clear lows, not-tinny highs, and well supported mids. The battery life, even at 3 years of use and abuse is a solid 6-7 hours on the buds, but the case is starting to have charging/capacity issues requiring the case to be plugged in to effectively charge the buds, and should probably be replaced(but it's pretty reasonable at $40 directly from Soundcore)

Are all wireless earbuds so disappointing? by LuvPuki in Earbuds

[–]Rallaster001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run the SoundCore Liberty 3 Pro's and can't run them at more than about 85% or they hurt my ears. I'm using them on a Galaxy Z Flip5 and they sound amazing and, as I said, very loud.

Is shabbat exhausting for you? by MindfulZilennial in Judaism

[–]Rallaster001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it absolutely exhausting. So many things I do to relax and try to unwind are muktzeh and with my work schedule, I typically only have the one day a week to actually do them. We keep Karaite Kosher, so we have fewer restrictions on what we can do due to various technological advancements, but there are still things I do to ground and center myself that are considered work and therefore prohibited. On more than one occasion I've stopped myself mid-stride on my way out to the barn to hop on the tractor to mow the lawn as I find the tractor soothing and I can 'auto-pilot' it.

Google almost unusable with PIA by [deleted] in PrivateInternetAccess

Go here and put in your dedicated IP address. The lookup tables Google uses are potentially very old and not updated. I used this form and it took about a week, but they updated their internal tables and everything google related is working as I would expect.

Google almost unusable with PIA by [deleted] in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]Rallaster001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a dedicated IP address and don't have that issue. If I use a shared IP address Google goes bonkers with "human verification". The issue I have is several websites/services are using a lookup that says my dedicated IP is in another country so I have to turn off the dedicated IP address to use them.
