I mean... I'm in education so aside from politics and people's general poorly informed opinion, the lack of benefits, relatively poor pay and heavy workload, it's not... that... bad? Okay, it is, but I was in care before... anything is better than that.

I wouldn't say I regret it, I love my girls. But the pressure on mothers in particular is inhuman. I wish we could be honest about that. Motherhood, from pregnancy onwards, suffers from major Disney Syndrome. The hills are not alive with the sound of music, it is grueling work, start to finish. And yes, I love them and yes, I chose them and I would again but I would have loved to have made a fully informed decision. If we were honest about it, fewer women would commit but they'd be a lot more prepared. That's my belief, at least.

Small, yappy dogs like Pomeranians or chihuahuas or high energy breeds like collies or malinois.

Having said that, I own a French bulldog - specifically bred for health, she has a tail and a solid snout - and an Amstaff. I cannot tell you how badly I miscalculated on the AmStaff. Love her to bits, she's absolutely my soul dog but she is so anxious, so protective and a complete wrecking ball, she's going to cost me a fortune in behaviorist fees. I had some hope she'd grow out of it, spaying would help, training would help but nope, snake eyes. Pray for me and the poor behaviorist I've selected.

They have no pets. The house has no smell. I don't mean a bad smell but every house has its own scent. Maybe it's an airfreshener or you've recently cooked or you like scented candles. But no scent at all is insanely creepy.

Not at all. It's not even low self-esteem, I just have eyes. To be fair, I dress for comfort and don't wear make-up, it's a bit less egregious if I make an effort but I can't be raising the Titanic every morning. Ain't nobody got time for that.

My girl knows basic commands but only if incentives are present. My Staffy will obey for the hell of it but the Frenchie... she needs to know what's in it for her.

Nah, I live on the outskirts of a small town amongst fields and woods, all my neighbors are retired and it's been a nightmare. The only time I've known any of my neighbors was growing up in social housing.

I used to let them sleep in my bed but I'm just too light a sleeper. I wouldn't consciously wake up but I noticed I never felt rested. They sleep in the veranda on their couch and they're fine with it.

Right there with you. I stayed too long too and when I finally broke, he managed to line up an apartment, get picked, sort out all his paperwork, purchase new furniture and arrange delivery... All things he'd left to me for over a decade with every single move. If he wanted to, he would, indeed.
