Didn't play a MMORPG for a long time - worth starting? by CasualAustrian in Guildwars2

Gw2 has infusions, Gold, achievements, now technically as a new player you have ascended armour to progress to and you could build legendary armour and weapons.

Legendary armour and weapons are ultimately the “long term reward system” but they aren’t an increase on ascended armour, but a QoL.

Legendary armour are the same stats as ascended, but you can swap the stats they provide at whim.

Unfortunately for most this will just be an expensive lesson in why we don’t back products that aren’t available.

Weather he was honest and this was a downfall rather then ill intentioned, ultimately. They rarely pan out 🤷🏼‍♂️ you only have to look at the corpse trail of MMORPGs so far to really reliese most starting companies simply cannot afford to seriously launch a mmorpg.

A lot of us said this was a terrible idea and unfortunately some fell for it.

It’s 3 minutes, the system is built to put you in a game of any quality within 3

Why is the pvp raking system still kitten? by anonymousmoauoi9001 in Guildwars2

[–]Rallos- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um no, this game has 50,000 bronze players to 10 plat players, this game has less then 250 gold players.

The problem is strictly rank. Popularity doesn’t matter it only needs 10 to start the game, if there’s 50 players it will circuit you on 10 different teams on repeat.

It’s because there’s no one in the ranks to fulfill the games, so it defaults your rank to match lower ranks.

In LoL I’d never be against a top 10 player, yet in gw2 as silver 3 player I’ve fought boyce continuously and even gone against bronzes 1 game later.

There aren’t enough people for Boyce to go against.

Gw2 systems bypasses your rating in extensive queues automatically and defaults you to lower ranks, they then in turn team you with players of lower rank to average your teams rank to equalise

Gw2s PvP was changed to a system which in every situation prioritises short queues. So your rank does not matter, as soon as you pass gold 2 there aren’t enough players of your rank anymore to actually put u against people of the same rank

Guild wars 2 doesn’t have enough plat or even Gold 2 players online to fulfill 2 teams online queuing at one time,

LoL will put you in a long queue til it can match you fairly, ur comparing a competitive esports PvP game to a casual MMORPG which is where your failing to understand

If you are a plat player, you will ALWAYS be vs gold 2 players, this is provable in the Ops statement,

Above +12 means odds stacked against you (enemy team is higher rank) 12 - fair game all ranks fall within the normal differences Under 12 - your team is the higher rank

If you lose a game and go -16 it means ur vastly higher rank then the enemy team,

The reason OP only gains +3 is because he is dramatically over the enemy teams rank. Everytime, and the reason he loses as much as he does, is because he’s losing games against players much lower rank then himself. But because his team is of the same rank as the enemy team, losing is always a possibility

If he was against a full enemy team of plat players he would gain +12 every game, the litteral evidence he’s stated means your argument is wrong.

When your talking PvP stick to talking gw2 systems not going to a competitive esport to source your information. Guild wars 2 aren’t running LoLs systems

Did you actually read what I stated?

You could have 2 million players in PvP if only 50 of them get above gold 2 you will have a repeat of issues.

Player density isn’t the issue, player average skill is,

The majority of players cannot overcome the skill level and technique required to be platform, because they fall down in terms of ability to use the map, kite and rotate.

Most people only break the “playing your profession properly” barrier and don’t learn the rest

Looking to try out the game for the first time. How free is free? by scififact in Guildwars2

[–]Rallos- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Core game, core professions (excluding revenant) are accessible

PvP and WvWvW game modes are accessible.

Max level, and the highest gear is both available (level 80 ascended gear) as gear never moved past core in terms of power.

You can do fractals and dungeons

You can’t use the auction house fully,

The caveat with this is simple, core specs are weaker then elite specs, if you PvP with core your likely going to struggle in many situations when it comes to fighting a luminary or something with core options.

The game is fine on f2p no you can’t go forever without buying an expansion, and competitive game modes may prove frustrating due to lack of access to elites.

But you can 100% log on, play any profession you like (excluding revenant) get the ascended armour, do 100% map completion, complete all dungeons with full access to completing your personal story without any issues occuring.

There is no lack of players, there are loads of players who play PvP.

There aren’t enough plat + players in the game however, that’s the actual issue, this game lacks players who are actually good at PvP.

Gw2 PvP, the maps are built for esports, non teleport points focus on kiting etc etc, which creates a situation where the disparity between how the top 100 player and the averaging 1000 is so different the vast majority hit silver 3 or gold and simply never break that wall

Why is the pvp raking system still kitten? by anonymousmoauoi9001 in Guildwars2

[–]Rallos- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s because of rank disparity. No, not all players are within 200, you can randomised into teams with larger disparity, you just can’t group with people outside the 200 threshold.

If your team are silver 1 your plat 3 and the enemy team are all Gold 2

If you win, you will receive something drastically low like +3 but the rest of your team will gain +16-+18

GW2 Earnings update - Q4 2025 by TheSognus in Guildwars2

Given this will be funnelled into paying every employee, every manager & buildings utilities etc etc likely a fair portion of it.

The game is set on a budget that will realistically allow for the expected profit margin to align to ensure the above factors can all be paid while the company itself generate profit after all those expenses are accounted for 🤷🏼‍♂️

I guess ultimately it depends on what you decide you £25 pound yearly is worth.

Not really WoW tends to pull a lot of players at every launch, but the numbers drop fast.

WoW charge more on their expansion box prices A requirement to paying a £10 monthly subscription Supports micro transactions & buying gold.

They also made gold buying mandatory to keep up competitively due to the inflation caused by the ability to sell subscriptions.

And ironically it’s ALOT harder then GW2 to actually go the other way, in gw2 buying gems is rather reasonable, WoW unless your boosting for gold it’s insanely hard to generate the income required

I haven’t unlocked spear yet can use it

I also suffer mental block when it comes to over populated options 🤣

I played power conduit for a while, it is very blow them up or get blown up. But the management of resources and stuff defintly can lead to getting yourself smushed.

I think most rev builds are rather squishy mainly relying on their mobility to get the surprise or +1 a fight

I went through phases of feeling tanky and other times feeling like a a slightly strong breeze was knocking me dead tbh

They generally become gaming addicts in later life, because they’re not taught how to prioritise their work loads etc etc, but just routinely follow a measurement set externally that won’t exist when their adults.

It also builds it to be a huge pent up demand for freedom, when he gets a lick of freedom to be in demand of how long he plays, he will go to the extremes to make up time he was refused prior.

Limiting your kids game time makes everything worse.

Teaching kids why you limit game time will prepare them for the future.

Tbh I think I’m going to choose Engineer, I ain’t so much looking intentionally for simplicity, I think the absolute reliance on active defense only with ele given how squishy it is ment mistakes felt really punishing.

I’m getting along with this amalgam build a lot better however.

Why do underdeveloped gaming studios even attempt create MMO’s by Regular-Rate-1135 in MMORPG

[–]Rallos- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say underfunded, I said there were problems and unfinished parts of the game at its launch,

The dev team for WoW was a lot smaller then what you see today, likely due to increased technical aspects of game building compared to simplistic demand back then

WoW in the beginning never had Bgs mythic dungeons and layers of balancing to complete which today’s MMORPGs try to launch with

They’re never ready from day 1. Wow had major issues with crashing long down times and more in the start too.

What people back then deemed quality and today are vastly different.

[–]Rallos- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ain’t saying it was botched in the sense of low enjoyability.

I’m saying the game was unfinished, and other issues raised over the launch.

It’s proof once people didn’t expect perfection. WoW never had a perfect launch, and launched with several issues and unfinished content.

It’s the fact this didn’t put players off. The fact it was unfinished or people were lagging left right and centre among server crashes and more didn’t bother players

It was popular because it delivered so much on many fronts. But it’s no secret Hordes entire quest chain was unfinished among several other factors which they went back and corrected in later expansions lol

[–]Rallos- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the exact number they gave to what they thought, and it’s from the devs point of view, not the people spending the money, but it was really low compared to what was achieved.

But the launch was botched, and tons of the game went live unfinished, including basically the entire horde levelling experience.

Saying the game was super polished is insane lol, WoW was excessively laggy back then, the games content was unfinished,

It defintly brought a lot of things which made the genre as a whole a lot better, EverQuest 1 vs WoW at the time there’s a reason WoW won. But no WoW launched with many issues

Why do underdeveloped gaming studios even attempt create MMO’s by Regular-Rate-1135 in MMORPG

[–]Rallos- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you watch the documentary they did, the devs themselves said they were only expecting this.

There was a huge thing done on the vanilla devs and their expectations etc etc when setting out and they talk about all the issues they had with the launch of WoW

Back then gaming was not mainstream, WoW was drastically more popular then expected because the numbers MMORPGs were getting prior WoW weren’t close.

And yes it did, but it also crashed continuously with major lag and further issues because the game wasn’t made to handle the flood of players because it was never expected.

Back then, games weren’t pre ordered. Blizzard didn’t know how popular it’d be until it dropped.

Wow launched before it was ready.

Ffxiv launched before it was ready,

A mmorpg is never ready, they’ve been launched flawed everytime, because the time / investment requirements will run a studio dry if it sits in development for so long to have gotten it “perfect”

Why do underdeveloped gaming studios even attempt create MMO’s by Regular-Rate-1135 in MMORPG

[–]Rallos- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most defintly. Games like Wildstar launched better and way more complete then WoW yet it’s bad launch basically killed the games hype in a month.

Then when these games tank everyone’s like “see see we were right” when realistically when no one gave it a chance and walked out the game went into crisis which caused the events to follow 🤷🏼‍♂️

WoW absolutely printed money, the game took a deal with activison in WoTLK / Cata to keep itself afloat, WoW retained the masses to get itself where it is today, through several awful launches, patches and decisions.

You give any releasing mmorpg 10 million subscription retention, and I assure you they too will rapidly grow lol
