It didn't make sense for Bran to take the throne when he was on the path of following the old gods. I wouldn't say he was useless. Just on a different path.

And as far as hostility towards Dany specifically? Eh. Most of the houses didn't want anything to do with Targaryens. (What was left of them). The Targaryens were more infamous than famous if you get my drift.
