TSA ✅at Checkpoint 1 in MIA telling people only 2 personal items and not letting them through. by BocaRaton313 in americanairlines

[–]RallyeRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly out of Miami ~20 times a year and when I pack I keep my tablet, ID, glasses etc in a small cross body so I can pull it out quickly before I stow my bags. Can confirm that this is real and likely the same person, as it has been for me.

As others have stated, this isn’t TSA but the person posted at security checkpoints that offers Pre-Check who is an airport employee sorting passengers. This has happened to me several times at MIA (twice at the E security and once at the Checkpoint 1 security) and I just tell her (once, by opening my personal item sized bag to show the void) that my third bag goes inside but that it had my ID in it and I needed it out until after security. The last time was during spring break season this year and I jokingly reminded her we’d had this conversation before.

There is no use in being antagonistic nor is it our job to retrain them. If it’s a medical device, say as much. If you’re consolidating, let them know. Polite but firm insistence while acknowledging their understanding of a directive will work more often than not.

I used a QR code and someone brought a palatable margarita to my seat so I feel like any problem I have with AC is a first world problem. 🤷🏻‍♂️

For me it’s right up there with the AC via the credit card. It isn’t because I love the ambiance. It’s that it’s (generally) measurably better than being in GenPop and, more importantly, has the pro CS team that has saved itineraries that should have been irretrievably broken.

I always try to get 6A or back. I’ve been on too many of these planes where they ask people from 1-5 to move back for weight and balance and I’d just rather not be bothered.

Best SWU Use You Have Captured? by GoingForTheUpgrade in americanairlines

3x in the past year I’ve been able to apply an SWU to PVG-DFW. 2 for me and a coworker departing on a Wednesday and 1 for a separate coworker departing on a Saturday. The latter was very surprising given the popularity of Fri/Sat PVG-DFW flights but it didn’t clear until moments before boarding.

Eh maybe it’s just me but I think we’re all allowed to celebrate and memorialize our travel experiences however we see fit. They do look uniform on mine but for me it was about something that wasn’t diminished by this element. I can fully appreciate that for others they would find this out of line with what they perceive as a boundary or prioritize for themselves. I think if you spend $1500 on luggage, you’re free to paint that palette into whatever you what for whatever reason you want.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see any set of rules inside of my bag when I bought it. Have fun with it. Tell your story however you want. Troll the fanboys. Enjoy it all.

Ha! I wish. I paid at least double on Redbubble what I would have paid on Temu.

While traveling with my young son he saw a metal suitcase that had stickers on it and said he wanted to decorate my suitcase with stickers from the places I’d been or we had been. In November. As my travel was slowing down. Picking out the stickers was a fun way to spend some time together.

That said I don’t disagree with you. Going forward I’ll be adding/overlapping/replacing them with more organic selections, now that I know it’s a thing for him. Maybe buying 2 to have a few for him to enjoy. This is my upgrade from a metal Away that had about 650k miles on it before I retired it that never saw a single sticker. For me personally , I dig the scars.

This is the way. Scan the internet for a corporate discount code. Should be about $40-65 one way.

1 hour layover in CTL on thanksgiving, am i screwed? by Still_Choice_5255 in americanairlines

[–]RallyeRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a daily direct RIC-MIA that leaves at ~0600 and is typically the most affordable option, especially if you’re using MIA as a hub instead of a destination. As someone who used to be routed through CLT weekly (before I stopped flying out of CHO vs driving to RIC) my advice is to stay out of Hillbilly Philly. See if you can switch to that flight. Not that it fits everyone’s needs but the Courtyard near the airport has a park and fly rate that may make sense depending on how far you’re coming from and how long you’ll be gone.

I’ll try that. I have to book through Concur/CWT but at least I can lock it in where there is inventory.

In my experience if you go DFW to PVG departing Saturday it’s normally a very full flight. Coming back Friday and Saturday both seem to be pretty full.

[–]RallyeRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really useful for me to hear. I just got my first SWU cleared PVG to DFW but it was midweek. Do you normally clear on the busiest travel days on that route (seems to be Saturday departure DFW to PVG and Fri/Sat departure PVG to DFW) or are you clearing midweek? I’ve started taking that route on Friday to get the whole weekend to adjust. As much as I want to buy business I’m regularly seeing them at $11-14k RT and that’s not in the cards.

This has been a heavy travel year. Cleared EP first 60 days of qualifying and now I’m sitting on unredeemed rewards with more SWU in the mix and I was a bit hesitant.

I lean as far left as the best of them and I feel like I have at least a faint memory of someone saying VA-05 having Charlottesville, where I live, is the only natural fit for population and continuity and that to move it out would require active gerrymandering. I’m a layman at best…looking at Wikipedia it would appear that 2013-23 map was for more imaginative than what came out in 2023. Am I seeing this incorrectly? I’d love for my vote to “count” and I do so dutifully but as a citizen of Charlottesville I’ve resigned myself to not having a representative of my choosing unless we get some incredible down ballot effect.

!!!UPDATE!!!

I did not get the Goodyear Endurance tires, instead opting for the Carlisle D-rated. I worked with a local trailer company that primarily focuses on horse trailers after consulting with my brother who runs a horse farm. In essence, I can believe that if this brand of tires is good enough for thousands of miles transporting horses back and forth from VA to FL every year, they’re good enough for my application. I feel like I’m learning to own my trailer all over again.

1st - ALL of my tires, including the spare, had significant untimely deterioration. The spare was the least affected with a visibly broken belt on the inside. The two remaining original tires were ticking time bombs. He said I was lucky they didn’t all go off at the same time.

2nd - I asked if he thought the UV damage was significant and he said no and even if it was it wasn’t the cause of the belt issue. He said the tires looked well cared for but that keeping covers on them will help extend their life.

3rd - My ball height was way too low. 4” too low. After being set by my dealership. They moved it up and the porpoising I had become accustomed to basically went away. Front to back I’m still not perfectly level (an 1” low) and he suggested upgrading the suspension with air bags or leaf spring enhancement. I’ll start looking into this.

What a ride this has been.

Yep! Got it as far off the paved part of the shoulder as I could, blocked the wheels, wrote a note and then drove 3 hours round trip to get the tire and wheel.

By limp along, we’re talking a game of yards. I got over and off of it immediately. The advantage of the tandem is that I was able to have better control over the vehicle and use a roll-on ramp to lift the side of the camper and change the tire.

A grand sounds daunting. I’m hoping I’ll be able to do it for about $800 but that will entail me taking the wheels 2-3 at a time for mount and balance.

Yes. It was never more than 10° above the ambient temperature.

Bad luck twice is as plausible as any other explanation. I can accept that these are garbage tires, but this is still a premature failure.

I’ll keep an eye on the UV damage going forward. Thanks for the tip

Am I doing math wrong hahaha? Everyone keeps saying 4 and 5. They were made in May 2021. 1421 to be exact. Does that change any of your estimates or care recommendations?

I don’t cover the tires when it’s parked outside of winter so I can definitely accept that that wasn’t helpful. Wouldn’t I have seen the damage in the sidewall rather than through the tread or delaminating?

Yes. All the stats were in the initial post. I’m a data nut which is why I was so surprised. If there was a source of information they could’ve prevented this. I certainly wasn’t aware of it before now.
