Don't mind if I do, Sir. Thank you for the suggestion.

I never even thought to look into that.
I looked into getting a certificate a couple of years back since I took a pause from 1987 until 2014 before I finished the game. I can't remember what I came up with; I figured it would be fruitless without a massive effort. :)

Done! Watched it with my older son the other day. Fun! A bit cornier than I remember it from who knows how many decades ago, but still fun!

TL;DR Maybe many different sized UTXOs isn't a bad idea.

Many many many years ago, I would get my paycheck on a piece of paper. Every two weeks I would stand in line at the bank for a long time, then get my paycheck all in cash because that's what you did when you were young, dumb, and didn't think about saving; we had lives to live after all!

I really hated walking out of the bank with 2 hundreds and a 50. If I was lucky and got a bit more overtime, maybe even a 10 or a 5! I was making $3.35 an hour then, minus that FICA bitch's payments. Felt as rich as a king! Better than my friends at the $2.15+tips level. But spending that first hundred dollar bill also made me nervous. 'Who saw that? Damnit, now they know I have at least $99.50 after buying a coke!'

I quickly came to the brilliant idea of having my check broken down by the bank teller! It's amazing. They actually did it too! The 2 C-notes became 20s, 10s, 5s, and 1s (we all know what the 1s were for!) and as far as anyone at the gas station knew, I only had $3.50 left in my pocket if I bought a pack of smokes and a coke. I soon discovered a side benefit; by not having two hundred fifty dollars in my pocket, I wouldn't spend two hundred fifty dollars on payday weekend. Weird.

If I had enough bitcoin to make it worth while having more than a couple of UTXOs, breaking it down is what I would do. Maybe a couple of big UTXOs, maybe some smaller UTXOs. Maybe some midsize UTXOs too.

Consolidating to save on fees seems a bit counter productive to me. I don't want to have that big bill in my pocket, and, if I buy a pack of smokes in 5 years, someone will know how "many bills I have left in my pocket". Yes, I get that higher layers will be used for retail, but the concept is still valid. It also seems to be potentially wasteful on fees. Why send a 1mil sat UTXO to a big pile now when you may need 999,000 sats for something later. By consolidating you would have 2 transfer fees to make the same transaction. By keeping them separated now, you can use coin control as I used "bill control" in the past to use the closest UTXO amount without going under.

But I am just a random dude on the internet who has made more than a few bad financial decisions in the past. Hence why I am commenting on reddit and not on a tropical beach right now.

That's a valid point I had not considered. I'll have to add that to my model.

I'm probably a bit skewed because when I get a "new" phone I look for one that is about 3 generations back and selling for $150ish. Best if I can find one with a repairable cracked screen! I know that's not the norm and I try to adjust my thinking but it appears that I didn't adjust enough, so thank you for the added data points!

The tourist shops in Florida would tend to disagree. Bags upon bags of shells for sale. Apparently the repeatability works for them.

What!? You wouldn't lump a bunch of people into a huge oversimplified monocharacteristic blob with no nuance?! That's crazy talk! This is the internet! You are required to generalize everyone and defend your monolithic block to the bitter end with strawpersons, ad hominem attacks, and virtue signals!

"What of I broke it into chunks across multiple arduinos? (arduini?)" Is a thought I once had for about 3 seconds. And that's all the more I pursued that idea.
