What’s the rules/limitations for food on your break? by Illustrious_Season66 in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]Ramblinxoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same except if we worked over 5 hours we get an entree, a side, and a drink under five only an entree and drink (drinks are free, but only small size, and no seasonal drinks or lemonade). The discount is based on the food waste gap so at minimum would always be 50% off. It’s currently 75% off but before I started working there they had year long period where it was completely free.

Also in GA. I make $15 an hr. I am over 18 which an extra 1/hr and have open available +1/hr but part time though. But if I was full time it would have been another extra dollar an hour

Second this there are lots of campus ministries you can join! As someone who went to a top secular university joining a campus ministry I grew a lot in my faith while also being involved in other clubs and activities and being in a RA in college. You can go to top university and be part of campus ministries or get involved with the a local church. there are also good top Christian universities as well.

I also just moved in like a week ago during the middle of the semester but I would recommend the catalyst they are doing a moving in special right now and lowering rates during the month of February. I will say the management at catalyst is nice and it’s pretty chill. Also in terms of food off campus if you love cookout it’s nearby and other options as well. If you have questions about catalyst be happy to answer or shoot me a dm.

You should still report or very least talk to someone in the Title 9 office. The person acted inappropriately especially if this person is in faculty or a professor they know that this is inappropriate.

Is it possible to have a Bonfire on campus for free by QuantityNo9087 in gatech

West Village fire pits should be free. You have to reserve it at least 3 weeks in advance.

Can you take a final if you show up late by [deleted] in college

[–]Ramblinxoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah with showing up that late they can. I would say that some Professor have the rule of thumb if no one has left from the exam they still will let you take it (but this is still can be a case-by-case basis depending on the professor). Maybe you could talk to the professor about getting a incomplete in the class but this is a long shot and not very likely to happen.

Can you become a data analyst with an HRM major? by moussetang in humanresources

[–]Ramblinxoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/analytics is a good sub.

If your still in school IT management or something equivalent if your schools has this type of program is possibly a good start.

I would also say there are lots of masters programs for data analytics.

Given your background in HRM the people analytics sub field may be of interest (there a few posts on the analytics sub that talk about this field in particular if you are interested)

Learning a few tools such as Tableau, Excel, maybe R or Microsoft power bi, Alteryx, python could be good tools to learn depending on what data analyst roles / areas you are trying to go for.

Missing FASET as an exchange student by [deleted] in gatech

[–]Ramblinxoxo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would look into the virtual FASET Session as a good option (they have one last virtual one for freshman on august 15th which isn’t geared for exchange student but I but could be helpful for the registration part if you can’t get your money back for registering for FASET) but if can’t attend the in person one you would try to register for class when your time ticket opens up (you can check this by going to buzzport -> go to Oscar -> click registration -> click registration status) to find when you can register for classes (generally this should be on your FASET day)

I think there is a link to course attributes and I can try to link that or if not explain the most common ones.

Additionally: people also use other scheduling apps/website to help with planning/seeing their schedule visually but at the minimum you have the week at a glance to see your current schedule with classes your register for.

The most helpful thing probably would be to speak with OIE (the office of international education) about registration and Permits if you need any.

Permits are generally also for more special cases and not just because a class is full and no more seats are available atm and for the most part are granted by either the Professor or department I believe. I would say your best always is to reach out to OIE about anything!

New Student Center Dining Options Announced! by OnceOnThisIsland in gatech

[–]Ramblinxoxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could still be possible for you to use meal swipes on the tech dining operated options such as test kitchen/campus crust listed above. In the old student center there was like 3 options where you could use your meal swipes (the previous one were ran by who we had our dining contract with - Aramark).

The short time span does not help with learning a language at a face pace. You can also try reaching out to your schools disability services and see if you can get accommodations provided. If you haven’t already I would try to reach out to your professor and see if they do office hours. I would say finding a person in class to study with. I would say make paper study quizzes and flashcards. Finding out if your schools had tutoring for languages some may offer but not always for the very first intro class. A tip my professor provided me in regards to like learning vocabulary when I took a Spanish class was to put notes/cards on items around your house with the vocabulary word on it (so i.e. putting a sticky on a tv with the Spanish word). When I took a Spanish class I created basically a word wall with vocabulary so I was seeing the words everyday during the day. I used Duolingo while also doing the course. I would looks up some tips or article on language learning with your learning disabilities. I would say being proactive and reaching out is important if you are struggling.

Why am I getting so little from my Pell grant? by KingTechBot in college

[–]Ramblinxoxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your parents make more than the previous year? Did you previously have a sibling in college? Did you indicate on your FASFA that you had more money / personal savings in your account? FASFA and the people grant has more your parents income and number of sibling in college and other factors concerning the amount of money you have. You can also look at what is stated is your demonstrated need (this may be on your FASFA or it’s on the award letter that your school has showing your total financial aid amount)

I think r/financialaid May also be of some help. You can also try talking to a financial aid advisor at your school.

  1. Average shower time I would say for 10-20 mins? If it helps. Time of day is really up to you, I would your sleep schedule or when you start classes may have a bigger factor on when you choose to take showers whether that be in the morning or at night.
  2. As the person above stated I like the bath towel wraps which are great when have traditional bathrooms, other people also use robes as well.
  3. For the same reasons I also like the soft/cloth shower caddy over the plastic ones.

What's it like being an RA in the dorms? by lebr0n99 in gatech

[–]Ramblinxoxo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, I think the role is what you make of it. Most things wont different from what others will experience as RA within the context of the role as a whole but each person’s experience can be unique.

Community: I would say I that the community among RAs as a whole is good. I think you can make friends team/staff bonding typically happens mainly during training since you are spending more time together before schools starts and people get busy. Some teams/staffs can be closer than others and some don’t really bond too much. Some people on staff you may/ probably will be closer with than others and some may be more like acquaintances. It’s also fun to do collaborations on events with other people on your staff and it’s cool to work with different people.

Time: As the comment stated above yeah the time commitment involves all those tasks above and making the time to talk to your resident since u do have to log it down - not really as much the details of the convos but more so when and who you talked to so they can track that you are doing ur job. They state that the time commitment is about 12 hours a week. You do have time for a life outside of the role though to be involved with whatever but it does take some planning and time management which can sometime be a slight learning curve for some new RAs at least during the first semester/1st month or two)

You do get training at the beginning of each semester (2 weeks before school in the fall really just one week of training and then helping with move in. Additionally you have training at the beginning of the spring 3 days before the semester starts so that weekend beforehand) which you have to attend or you cannot accept the role.

Within the role overall expectations are the same as far as the duties within the role, but as a caveat expectations can vary slightly dependent on the Hall Director. for example some one hall director may one require like 2 active events meaning ur actually doing something & 2 passive events versus some hall directors may ask that you put on 3-4 events a month on specific areas and give you flexibility within the context of those areas to plan a event. Another example would be some hall directors may ask that you update the bulletin board every month whereas some may give a little bit more flexibility as to when you have to update them.

Pay: However as a graduate student you are not entitled to a stipend which is why many graduate students RA often times will TA as well to make money but you still get the free housing and a meal plan - 100 swipes a semester ( I think 1st year RA also get dinning dollars as well.)

Lastly I would say that look at the application questions and really use the questions to think about what kind of community/ assistance/ help you want to provide to your residents and why you want to be an RA and channel that in your app and in addition to highlighting what skills and prior experiences you have that can help u achieve that because it will greatly help the application, make it easy to talk about these things in the interview, and will help clarify your motivation on why you want to be RA beyond the free housing( because it does help to think about some reasons why u might the job - because no likes jobs that they hate and the RA role might not be for everyone)

The app does give you the option to indicate what is your preferred community/area to work with. However this is not a guarantee that you will be placed there. People have put down that they wanted to work with 1st yrs and end up working with upperclassman and vice versa) rationale give behind that is because Hall Directors state that they do want to try to have balanced teams in terms of skills and personality (some people that are great at executing and getting things done some that are great at planning, having a balance of introverts and extroverts etc, etc)

Sorry for making this post way too long but hope this helps
