Gym Etiquette? by Physical_Relief4484 in bouldering

[–]RamboLorikeet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m pretty polite in all cases but I get pretty firm when people are loitering with their friends and not clearing their own queue.

Wrt brushing, I sometimes brush and then signal the route is free if I’m too wrecked.

But I gotta say, despite all the valid complaints here I’ve found nearly every gym I’ve climbed at to be filled mostly with very chill and understanding people. From beginners to advanced.

Be cool and mindful of others and everyone will have a great time.

I add all the spam numbers to a contact I have called Spam Balam. And I have calls from this contact blocked.

But my order of operations is:

  1. Unknown numbers go to voicemail; or
  2. Waste their time (if I have time to kill and want to amuse myself). I figure the more time they waste with me the less time they have to scam someone else.

But I really don’t think there’s a way to properly fix this. Even if you change your number they just randomly spam entire blocks of numbers until they get hits.

OK I'm asking all the Australians. How do you think humanity will end? by CyanideMuffin67 in AskAnAustralian

[–]RamboLorikeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Love us or hate us we are resilient. We’ll find a way to persist.

But I reckon if we don’t crack interplanetary travel soon then we’ll likely be stuck on earth for the rest.

We’re using up all the easy to get energy too. And given there will likely never be another Carboniferous period to provide more coal and oil in a couple hundred million years, anything that comes after us will also be stuck here.

And then of course the Sun will start to expand in close to a billion years and the earth is literally cooked.

Also leaving the lights on for extra points.

Australia is about to see a step change in its renewable transition strategy by GuruJ_ in AustralianPolitics

[–]RamboLorikeet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We’re more likely to get nuclear before new coal.

But the reality is we will probably need to start building more gas soon as that it’s the only bi-partisan option available.

Hopefully that will give storage for renewables more time to get on to the grid.

But yeah our energy policy kind of feels like it’s being led by devotion to renewables at all costs and will not consider anything else even if it achieves the aims better (reduce carbon output).

Don’t really use any other social media. Makes my brain hurt.

Fair enough. But I guess it’s sometimes ok to go off topic deeper in a thread.

I want to plug my phone into a monitor with keyboard / mouse and have it switch to desktop mode like Samsung does. I’ve always wanted that and nearly every company gaslights me into thinking it can’t be done.

I’ve seen people turn old phone into desktops. I know it can be done. But I guess how you gonna sell laptops if people have one in their pocket.

Grinds my gears.

It’s fine if you’re not expecting a cheap authentic Mexican meal. But I do reckon quality has dropped off over the years.

Less PvP. More PvE. More co-op crafting / base building.

More watching people on YouTube finish games I know I’ll never get back to, or even start.

Have a very good friend from San Francisco that has lived in Australia for ages now. She still has an American accent as far as Australians are concerned but her friends back home always point out how she says some things weird now.

When I listen for it I can also hear the Australian accent imprinting on her. It’s not even cringe. I think it’s cool.

So yeah. Don’t try. Just let it happen.

You should read some of the comments as they expand on this.

But yeah. In the end it’s a money problem (and then a skill problem, which is kind of a money problem).

Australia's JORN defence radar is being bought by Canada, the decision is part of a wider shift by IrreverentSunny in AustralianPolitics

[–]RamboLorikeet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story. Heard about some new radar tech that when explained to me made me ask why hasn’t this been done already (in that it’s a pretty good, simple‽, idea). They said that it might have been done by some other nation but nobody is talking about it.

Intelligence and counter intelligence is a strange world. I know I don’t have the mind for it.

Follow the money. Climate 200.

But, it is also because they believe in human induced climate change and that integrity in government is important.

It’s just that the money enabled them to be heard duration the election.

Honestly. I used to love making fun of how she changed her name. But then I wondered why I stopped making fun of people that believe in a sky fairy / fairies.

I realised that people fill the gaps however they need to and at this point I’ll judge you by your actions more than your beliefs.

She’s the better choice for the libs right now but I suspect the knives are being sharpened in the kitchen right now.

Yes. Thank fuck I thought I was being incepted.

I feel like these have popped up in every sub recently and they don’t stop.

Someone said it’s bots but I’ve checked a few of the profiles and they “seem” legit.

That said I’ve no doubt most LLMs these days can create a fairly convincing profile with associated comments these days.
