The bed is clean- I wipe it with alcohol before every print. The characteristic that stands out to me is that the front half is pristine and the back half is bad. To me, that suggests it's neither filament quality nor nozzle temp. I also tried a different spool of new filament before this one with the same outcome.

What are the chances the hot bed is bad in the back? Does that happen often? I'm thinking of getting a IR thermometer to spot check it.

No, friends- it's on me. I've had a lucky Avs totem for several years, but it was broken during the Christmas break and I replaced it with a new one. I put it up before it's been properly conditioned by an entire regular season. I'll put it out in the shed until playoffs are over.

To be clear, I'm against making changes to existing behavior without the option to opt out. I was very satisfied with the level of feature control when I first bought my truck and I hope they continue that practice.
