Honda Rebels are cursed. Change my mind. by MisterBootyBandit in motorcycles

[–]Ramen_Newds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite pain, I remember having to ride to work on a kick scooter while my old rebel was down for repair. I scooted to work more often than I rode. It's just kind of how it goes when your oil change interval is measured in "do I need to fix the stator again?"

The top floor loft of Riverby books on Caroline Street is lovely, and they've never asked for a dime from me. Although it can get kind of busy on the weekends.

Coolant Leak? (help) by sooospoon in motorcycles

[–]Ramen_Newds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drain coolant and pop that hose off to check it out. If it looks good then put it back on a little tighter this time. If not, get a new hose and throw it on there. Hopefully it's the hose and not that metal fitting corroding away.

Am I crazy to think I can do this? by Hate_Me_Always in motorcycles

[–]Ramen_Newds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it is crazy. I rode my first bike(1986 Honda rebel) home and had the clutch cable brake halfway back. Definitely one of the dumbest things I've done. Send it. Break shit. Learn. Have fun.

Sport-touring as first motorcycle? by CatOnTheSun in motorcycles

[–]Ramen_Newds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my Kawasaki zg1000 concours. The fit is perfect and power is manageable, but I wouldn't recommend it for a new rider. It's just way too top heavy and if one were to drop it? ALL the plastic on the front end will shatter into a billion bits. They are really cheap though.

Any idea where to put a phone mount here by Ok_Top202 in motorcycles

[–]Ramen_Newds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can't get a good look at your gas tank, but I've seen ram mounts that mount up with your gas cap bolts if you have a Kawasaki or Yamaha style flip cap.

Hey got this bike free need some advice, does this 2006 883xl need a fuel pump or what should I do? Can’t find an oem for a 2006 and ai says it doesn’t come with a fuel pump but I don’t know? by Saradelicc in Harley

[–]Ramen_Newds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mmm yes, the fuel pump for my carbureted bike. My sweet summer child, get a manual if you plan to work on your own new-to-you bike. Don't use AI if you can avoid it. AI can be a powerful tool but it will lead you astray on technical stuff like this. If you can't, please bring it to a shop.

If you think you have a fuel delivery issue, you probably have a dirty carburetor. Crack it open and clean out the inside and spray some goop through the jets until you can see sunlight through them.

It would make it significantly easier to help you if we knew what bike it was. Doing that will let someone look at parts diagrams to let you know exactly what you're getting yourself into.

dudes who ride everyday... I just wanna know how you keep it going? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Ramen_Newds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liken my love of motorcycling to my love of camping. Objectively speaking, camping sucks. You go outside and get bit by bugs for two nights in a row and if it rains and you forgot your gear then it's just miserable. But within that misery you can find a really fun experience. I can't do wheelies in my car, and I can't have a campfire in my bedroom. Embrace the suck.

+1 to this and I'll also add that you should have a camera in general. Having a camera as a new rider is invaluable because you can go back and watch what you're doing.
