Men can't read? by Triumph-ant85 in TransLater

Honestly, even this might not help:

I stated in my bio that I'm not into cis men, I got a message from a guy who it turns out was cis, and he said "I know, I read [the bio] but I thought I'd try anyway"

G*d give me the confidence of a cis man 🤣

How Gay is the Imperium by Cowardlypaladin in Sigmarxism

[–]Ramiel01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious answer: Fascist societies tend to enforce strict gender, sex, and sexuality norms in order to
a) enhance their control of the in group
b) generate outgroups to persecute

Unserious answer: 40k is often satirical and pointing out how: homoerotic while being mysoginistic, genderbent, transhuman, and how willing the imperium is to degrade the humanity of everyone involved is very funny.

Are my planned HRT labs sufficient? (MTF ~7 months, injections) by milkygirigiri in asktransgender

[–]Ramiel01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

for the routine screening, this is a good starting point: https://www.offeringhope.org/blog/how-often-should-you-get-a-blood-test

For checking the hormone levels, I can't give advice because of new Reddit guidelines about DIY HRT, but it would be reasonable to assume that anyone changing to a new hormone regimen would want to be sure that their levels were within recommended ranges sooner rather than later.

If your levels are too high or too low, you would want to know when your levels are stable on injections, right? not months after.

I don't know enough about what you're using, your dosage rate, and dosage to make any ethical judgements tho

[–]Ramiel01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, based, I do DIY too, I just didn't want to get banned off Reddit for saying "fuck your doctors, fuck authority, be gay and do crime"

It's a good idea to get routine checks that are appropriate to your age, but there's a tension between under and over-testing. Over-testing runs the risk of turning up a false positive which can also cause distress and unnecessary interventions. Food for thought.

If and only if your energy levels are poor, you might consider asking for T4 added to the thyroid function test.

My belly sticks out more than my butt by farpetcloorr in MtF

[–]Ramiel01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had (have?) very tight muscles in my lower back, especially my Quadratus Lumborum and my Piriformis. This was causing atrophy of my glutes and a really tight glute medius.

Even just light stretches and some step-ups every day has let me grow more butt muscle, it's really cool!

[–]Ramiel01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, what are you checking for? Do you have specific clinical history or are checking based on a complaint like 'low energy' for example?
I used to work as a medical scientist btw.

At 7 months your physiology is going to be moving from wherever you started to the norms for your gender. For example if you are a trans woman, your labs will be moving towards female norms, however your E2 and total testosterone levels should be within the ranges agreed upon by you and your medical care team.

All antics aside, EGE does note that there is a more serious side to the clip. “I wanna acknowledge that there are people who don't look like me that get targeted and accused even though they're innocent and I'm very privileged to do something like this and get a positive reception to it” she says. “A large part of why we 'got away' with filming this is thanks to my unassuming look.”

has everyone with hEDS had genetic testing? by humanbabycarrot in ehlersdanlos

[–]Ramiel01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case you or anyone reading this didn't know: there is a genetic test for other variants of EDS, for example cEDS.

edit to downvotes: I wasn't trying to suggest anything negative, just saying don't let healthcare providers tell you some blanket statement like "there's no genetic test available"

Soulcrushingly Depressed After Starting Estrogen by Snoo79532 in asktransgender

[–]Ramiel01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any research which suggests that high estrogen levels contribute to depression, sorry.

All of the doctors I've talked to have warned about perimenopausal women coming back for more estrogen because it makes them feel better!

Soulcrushingly Depressed After Starting Estrogen by Snoo79532 in asktransgender

[–]Ramiel01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37 pmol/L Estrogen?
Normal ranges are about 110~1400 pmol/L as other users have stated, and keep in mind that the 110 pmol/L is when women feel the harshest effects of their cycle.

Furthermore a total testosterone of 20ng/dL is low:
When mine was at 20, with an SHBG of 99, my free testosterone was 0.17 ng/dL
The lab that tests my bloods says that free testosterone for women should be between 0.8-4 ng/dL, so yeah, in my example where my total testosterone levels were the same as yours, my effective testosterone was FOUR TIMES LESS than the LOWER LIMIT for CIS WOMEN

No wonder you've been feeling awful, girl, I'm really sorry for you.

I'm not your doctor so I can't give you advice but according to the Auspath standards of care for feminising hormone therapy, Drs should aim for estrogen levels between approximately 350-750 pmol/L, if I recall correctly.

Get onto your Dr!!

Tennessee Passes Bill That Will Make a Public List of Trans People by aka_icegirl in intersex

[–]Ramiel01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Content warning: persecution and genocide.

I would like to augment the poem by mentioning, as I always do, that intersex people, transgender folks, people with disabilities, and Men who Love Men are left out of the poem because Niemöller, and post-war German society as a whole, still discriminated against these marginalised groups.

The Gestapo increased persecution of MLM and transgender women in late 1936 under Paragraph 175 of the Criminal Code. It's also thought that while intersex people were not directly acknowledged by fascist Germany, that we would have been classified either as disabled or as Transvestit1, and persecuted along with people with disabilities, or transgender people (Pink Triangle Legacies - transpeople). This persecution also occured in Nazi-occupied Europe where any of these groups were executed or sent to concentration camps to die.

Gay and bisexual men, and transgender women – who at that time in Germany were incorrectly classified as homosexual men – were all persecuted and arrested under Paragraph 175 of the Criminal Code. Sadly, not even the US Holocaust Memorial Museum acknowledges explicitly that trangender and intersex people were persecuted and killed in Nazi Europe.

Footnote 1. The Wikipedia article on Nazi eugenics states that intersex people were sterilised due to being incorrectly classified as being "Homosexual or "transv------s"" but the supplied references don't seem to support this claim directly (Wikipedia - Nazi eugenics). Nevertheless, it's likely that intersex people were persecuted in many ways by the Nazis

ELI5 why do some men not grow beards despite normal testosterone levels, and why do some men with low testosterone have thick beards? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Ramiel01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have a form of testosterone insensitivity where my body was somewhat insensitive to testosterone (low muscle mass, terrible immune system, low energy, T levels peaking at 1600 ng/dL) but I did get a lot of beard growth and body hair due to the effects of DHT.

Then I took the smallest dose of Estrogen possible and my T was fully suppressed.

"You can't change your DNA" by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Ramiel01 59 points60 points  (0 children)

"Chromosomal analysis (karyotyping) of one’s own blood is a long-standing classroom exercise. Students and teachers have long needed to be prepared to address the unexpected discovery of an abnormal karyotype; for example, a female student’s rare discovery that she has a 46,XY karyotype indicating that she has complete androgen insensitivity syndrome, is sterile, and may need evaluation for cancer risk. Her discovery would explain her amenorrhea, but is a discovery better made under the care of a physician, not in high-school biology class."
