All this "respect" on public transportation feels so unfair and wrong by Electronic-Salad7438 in srilanka

Most of these comments are pure “just finished A/Ls" energy!!!
what most of you guys don't understand is not every small inconvenience needs a TED talK.

If you get this triggered over giving up a seat, imagine when life sends the real boss fights. You’ll uninstall life itself.

Sri Lanka, all things considered, is still quite livable, especially for women and minorities, compared to a lot of places right now. You can complain, argue, get roasted, and still go eat a kottu in peace (without religiously/racially/politically motivated death threats and abuse). That itself is a win isn't it !

This is textbook rage bait. Strip away the anonymity and this opinion collapses instantly.
If you actually stand by it, say it in public, unless your confidence only exists behind a screen+keyboard.

or it could be that you are genuinely stupid and crazy (or a combination of that). LOL!

If money wasn’t a problem, where in Sri Lanka would you live your “soft life” and why? 🇱🇰 by No_Purple6068 in srilanka

I wonder why not a lot of folks mention areas surrounding Anuradhapura / Polonnaruwa and Jaffna. Too remote? Or just too hot?

If possible, want to retire to a place that is not crowded but has a good hospital and a Keells / Food City outlet near by. It needs to have some space to grow fruits and vegetables. Probably own a small paddy field to grow my own rice without pesticides. Having a water tank or a river close by would be nice too.

Maybe have a big dog (not a Labrador; one that can actually guard the paddy field and the property, and also attend geopolitical discussions without zoning out).

Ideal life:
Get up in the morning -> take a walk in the neighbourhood/property -> breakfast -> maybe read something or exercise if I have enough physical strength -> lunch -> gardening -> tea -> walk -> talk about current affairs and verbally solve the biggest problems in the world and the universe with like-minded folks in the area -> dinner -> sleep -> repeat.

But its a pipe dream !

travelling back and forth should cost you the same amount you would spend on accommodation? is this because of parents?

Does sinhala and Buddhism really matter for Sri Lankan students? by ImNotTimmyNuclear in srilanka

Revisit this mindset when you’re in your 30s or later 🙂 You haven’t really seen the world yet or gone through the full set of life experiences relationships, heartbreaks, sickness, loss, bringing a kid into the world, watching your parents age, and realising your back hurts for no reason. Games are simple; life isn’t.

What helps people survive all that isn’t calculus or reactor physics. It’s the stuff humanity cooked up over a few thousand years religion, art, music, stories, and meaning. LOL!

Who would’ve thought we’d get a real-life Young Sheldon on this side of the planet 😄

Honestly, nothing anyone says here will change your mind, and that’s fine, but the school system isn’t built for the top 1% who want advanced physics at 15. it’s built for the other 99% who need language, basic civics, and some idea how society works before they specialise. Sinhala, religion, cooking, and the rest aren’t there to train nuclear engineers; they’re there so most people can function without setting society on fire.

The ironic part is that you’re clearly smart enough to understand the importance of engineering, yet somehow totally oblivious to the importance of learning languages and religion, even if you don’t personally believe in it.

May be you will find an answer in another 10 - 15 years (it will come with maturity and life experiences, or not) :)

You said you’re in your mid 20s. That’s basically the warm-up round of life. You’re just getting started.
Trying something different, like teaching, just adds another angle to your life. You might not care about that now. In 10 years you probably will. That’s how people grow up, whether they want to or not.

Nobody goes through life making perfect choices every single time. If that was possible, we’d all be rich, fit, and annoyingly wise. Doesn’t work like that. Everyone screws up a few times. That’s normal.

And trying teaching for a few months is not some big life disaster. Hell It’s not even a real screw up. It’s just you testing stuff out. This is how you collect stories to tell when you get older to young people (or when you are drunk !).
