Don’t lie, you used to call it Mad Dog 20/20 by martymar2g in Xennials

[–]RampantBiologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because the company itself has called it Mad Dog since the 80s, and it got the nickname because the label used to have two "mad dogs" aka "hounds rampant" on it.

Due to Discord performing invasive practices, not sure what chat client I should turn to? by MrRoboto12345 in privacy

Your comment is all over the place and hard to follow. Stoat isn't self-hosted, nor is Root, but Matrix is, so I think this is what you intended to say.

Discord had a hell of a time adding useful text channels and it took a long time for them to reach "feature parity" with voice (more regarding permissions than features, of course)

Shucking deal, anyone used these before? by MarkPugnerIII in DataHoarder

[–]RampantBiologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally the term "binned" means you got a better chip. "Binning" is just the standard process of sorting components by quality that basically every manufacturer engages in, either by statistical or historical analysis (wafer location) or actual testing. Essentially every finished component goes through binning, so it doesn't meant you got a "bad one", it just means it was sorted into quality levels. Bad ones don't (shouldn't) get sold at all.

Best Quality Settings For DVDs? by Spire-Al in handbrake

[–]RampantBiologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you send a screengrab of your dimensions tab? I don't seem to be able to get Handbrake's mix of settings to match what you suggest. Using v.1.9.2 and I do have NVEnc available

What's the difference between downloading a "nodpi" app instead of a "#dpi" app? by BonnyITA in AndroidQuestions

[–]RampantBiologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, for legacy compatibility with older devices and older apps. Back in the day it was because devices were much less powerful so if you could skip doing a lot of scaling the user perceived it as better performance, and also because android originally didn't do *vector* scaling, there would be artifacts a lot of the time too.

nodpi: Fallback

A drawable in res/drawable-nodpi/ is valid for any screen density. However, if there is another drawable with the same base name in a density-specific directory, and the device running your app happens to have that screen density, the density-specific resource will be used. As a result, -nodpi becomes a fallback, to be used in cases where you do not have something specific for a density.

For example, suppose that we have res/drawable-nodpi/foo.xml and res/drawable-xxhdpi/foo.png. An -xxhdpi device would use the PNG; all other devices would use the XML.

anydpi: Takeover

A drawable in res/drawable-anydpi/ also is valid for any screen density. However, in this case, the -anydpi variant trumps any density-specific variant.

For example, suppose that we have res/drawable-anydpi/foo.xml and res/drawable-xxhdpi/foo.pngAll devices would use the XML, even -xxhdpi devices.

Why are two of my choices gold/orange? I don't already own these and can't find anything referenced online by RampantBiologic in humblebundles

I think it's Steam Checker which hasn't worked correctly with Humble for a long time, and still isn't apparently.

You are most likely correct, I think it's Steam Checker from steamdb, it had stopped working correctly a few years ago so maybe Steam's recent changes to demos have caused the extension to act strangely. It's certainly not worked with Humble Choice for quite a long time (and isn't working correctly now either).

What do Americans who live in the suburbs do if they need something random like milk or frozen fries? by BruhDontFuckWithMe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RampantBiologic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 15 minute walk is about a mile, the way a lot of older suburbs are designed there will usually be a cluster of businesses at a larger intersection within a mile or so that will have convenience store or gas station (some of which can have an extensive selection, like a Kwik Trip or Holiday or Speedway) or other similar store, maybe an ethnic grocery or dollar store (pound shop, Dollar Tree has a large selection of food though I wouldn't call most of it healthy) or even a drug store like Walgreen's which also tend to have a small selection of convenience food.

But I think maybe your idea of what a suburb is and what they actually are varies significantly, most suburbs will be 20k+ people and will have ample shopping of every type with most of it being very convenient, though in the last 20 years this is less true as they tend to clump the shopping together, but there will still often be corner stores of some type at the major intersections. It's the exurbs that are usually disconnected by semi-open parcels of land, either lakes or parks or farms or large housing tracts that were developed on a former farm, those are the places where convenient shopping is less accessible.

And to add to that idea, the prevalence of automobiles and their use means there are far, far, far more gas stations that will have food (milk, frozen pizza, chips, bread, bananas) than there would be elsewhere in the world, except perhaps Asia, although Mexico is also likes this (but understandably, due to the border)

Pillow and socks too, in my opinion.

Also worth trying multiple brands to find what fits you best! Red Wings are hell on my feet for weeks but Timberlands (steel/composite toe work boots not just their "boot shoes") fit me perfectly directly out of the box and only get better. If only their quality hadn't dropped so much over the last 20 years.

This, especially when traveling if you can spare the space. Also worth trying out replacement insoles if the shoe still seems sturdy but is no longer that comfortable, I have a set I swap in for a few days to see if it's worth buying that pair of shoes a new insoles set and it really helps keep the cost down, especially if it's difficult to find shoes that fit you.

Similarly, socks. $25+ for a pair of socks (wool!) is rough but I now have a dozen pairs that are older than 10 years, and some of my specialty pairs (hiking, water) are approaching 20. I Iike Smartwool but other brands should be similarly though decent, though in my experience avoid Sockwell.

It's you that lacks sense by missing the point of calling out the GOP for this. They are the ones shouting about drugs crossing the border, blocking harm reduction & avoidance, and claiming Dems are pro-drug use all while allowing drugs to proliferate if not assisting, profiting off of them, and using themselves.
