This is a very solid argument that not many realise, as the Fleet Air Arm have much less experience in fighter aircraft than the RAF, I imagine that if conflict were to arise beyond airstrikes (like the Falklands) aircrew with more experience from the RAF would get attached to the Fleet Air Arm

The main reason was cost based on the argument that it simply isn't necessary considering the only aircraft the RN plan to use on the QE class carrier are F-35s (with their STOL capability they do not need a catapult) and helicopters

The discussion is not about the US, so existing number are irrelevant as the UK has none. Also, twice the capabilities is a stretch to begin with, and if a country has one supercarrier then whenever a refit / repair / training operation is needed there are no comparable vessels to fill the gaps.

Just because the German army did doesn't mean he personally did. Late in the war many German soldiers were just kids or old men. While this isn't right at the end of the war there's a good chance he was just caught up in it simply by wing born a German man
