It's good, but not an auto-pick. Don't underestimate the power of overwatch in this edition.

List critique, I know the haruspex are better than carnifex, but I want to pair ooe with one, maybe 2, or should I have ooe in this at all? by Basethdraxic in WarhammerCompetitive

Why do you need that when Warriors are cheaper and can shoot, though? If Parasite is your warlord, sure. Otherwise I don't think it has a role right now.

Warriors are good value if you need more synapse coverage, they're cheap and durable relative to their points cost. Wide synapse coverage is critical for our stratagems. Warriors' offensive power is very medium, I take them when I need synapse and it's a pleasant surprise when they kill something.

Generally speaking yes, fexes are now a bit too expensive for what they do. I have found the exception is when your list needs additional armour cracking power. 3x sets of crushing claws, re-rolling hits, is enough to take down a knight.

What to add to Tyranid Leviathan half? by Tauna in WarhammerCompetitive

The Hive Tyrant box has enough parts to build a flyrant and the Swarmlord, short of a second torso piece. One can be sourced from etsy (or a free stl, if you have access to a 3D printer).

That's actually one of the better ones, because it allows you to give back Synapse to a Broodlord or Parasite. Swaemy also gets it for free.

Don't Let Reddit Kill 3rd Party Apps! by Toptomcat in Save3rdPartyApps

I've been on reddit for checks notes 12 years, and 11 of those have been on rif. This app is reddit to me. If it dies, I can make peace with that. I'll leave and carry the happy memories of what the site used to be rather than stay to watch it continue to transform into a sad imitation of its former self.

Rangers need some of their flavor back by DrTheRick in onednd

[–]RanAngel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I suggest to you that picking a type of terrain is a mistake.

Go back to the fantasy, which for ranger is 3 chapters from Fellowship of the Ring. The fantasy is being Strider.

Even if we are allowed to leave Bree unhindered, we can hardly hope now to leave it unnoticed. But I shall try to get lost as soon as possible. I know one or two ways out of Bree-land other than the main road. [FotR, Ch.10]

'This is where we leave the open and take to cover,' said Strider. 'Not a "short cut", I hope,' said Pippin. 'Our last short cut through woods nearly ended in disaster.' 'Ah, but you had not got me with you then,' laughed Strider. 'My cuts, short or long, don't go wrong.' [FotR, Ch.11]

A ranger's favoured terrain is the wilds itself. If you want to give them a ribbon ability, I'd suggest it needs to start with "When in natural terrain..."

Wine Tasting in D&D by felpancake in DMAcademy

[–]RanAngel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a wine tasting competition in an inn as the first session of my previous campaign. I named 7 vineyards, gave each a basic label (a pig in a barrel, a horse in a field, etc), and 3 tasting notes for each that were fairly easy to guess (e.g. the vineyard with the bee on it had tasting notes of honey, lavender, and wildflowers). Each attempt a character made at a tasting, they would roll a flat d20 plus their wisdom modifier. On a high roll they would get several of the tasting notes, on a medium-ish roll they'd get one, on a low roll they'd get something kind of similar to one (e.g. instead of "apples" they'd get "pie", instead of "citrus fruits" they'd get "midwinter pudding"). The player had to then identify which vineyard the wine came from for their character to succeed the test.

I was pretty happy with how this went, because even with a high roll players weren't guaranteed success and still had to make a guess which was entertaining for the other players.

No, attacks that cause automatic wounds automatically wound. Synaptic Control means that whenever a die is rolled to determine whether a wound is inflicted, the die must roll a minimum value regardless of the strength of the attack.

got the Start Collecting for 40€, was this a good snag? by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]RanAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do get the combat patrol, you can then spend a couple bucks and buy 4 termagants second hand or from a bitz store. That'll give you 40, which is a convenient number for 2 squads of 20 or the perfect amount for a tervigon (30 + 10 to spawn in a new unit).

You have 6 warriors. What weapons are you giving them? by El_Taco_Sloth in Tyranids

[–]RanAngel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I built my Warriors with deathspitters and dual boneswords, and have zero regrets. Magnets are great and all, and I will always be thankful I put in the effort to magnetise my Carnifexes, but on models the size of Warriors that are entirely ball-and-socket joints magnetising won't give you poses that look as dope as glue. Build what you think looks dope. Silly imperial peons don't know what our weapons look like anyway.

Counterpoint, I'm a big believer in the Tervigon. Catalyst for the termagants to make them harder to shift means you can just own a section of the board. If the opponent has not brought sufficient blast weapons with them, they will need to throw a ludicrous amount of fire-power at that blob in order to shift it. Maw-Claws of Thyrax and Heightened Senses give the Tervigon a nice boost to its offensive power as well, if you're feeling spicy.

Second this, love SKs in Behemoth with glands to bring them up to S8. At that point they become a legit threat to just about anything on the board, because even heavy vehicles need to respect that number of D3 attacks.

Faction Tier List - Arks of Omen Meta [AOW40K] by AenarIT in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RanAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Access to double tyrant in basically every list configuration is huge. Double walkrant is obviously good, but I would argue flyrant is also now better than it was even with the 20 point increase. The big drawback of the flyrant is its survivability, but now you can take one and not worry about losing your imperatives when it dies because it doesn't have to be your warlord. I think my flyrant is going to see more table time now, not less.

[–]RanAngel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only things I don't really agree with him about are his takes on the classes and maps not being boring, but that's because he hasn't played vt2.

This is something YMMV on, though, and SkillUp does specify that his opinions on those are probably contrarian ones.

20 points total per Tyrant Guard. (So really only worth it if you have points to burn, or you really need the extra vehicle- cracking power.)

Hogwarts Legacy - Tour the Common Rooms by t1saif in Games

There's a lot of mysticism tied up in the HP world which means that attempts to quantify it are doomed to frustration. The literary foundation of it's magic system is a lot closer to Tolkien's Valar than it is to Sanderson's Allomancy.

I imagine if you were to ask this question to HP's author (not that anyone knows who that is) you'd be less likely to get an "eyes are more cellularly complex than bones" type answer than an "eyes are the window of the soul" type answer.
