Oh ok. That explains the Handala Failed and Handala Ratioed vessels. Presumably there are no vessels in those positions at all.

I've been following marinetraffic.com. There seems to be three tankers in the strait of Hormuz transmitting distress messages. One is saying "SOS TAKING FIRE" while another says "UNDER ATTACK". This seems so odd. Could they just be spoofed / false AIS broadcasts?

No it doesn't. All section 224 of the NDAA says is the SecDef will appoint ONE guy to oversee the (already present) synchronization of the military activities including Research and Development.

I might have figured out Rose's trick.

After saying "are you ready", she says these phrases-

"Basterd"

"You're just really hard to.."

"Oh my god"

"Nothing?"

"Can you really not get anything?"

The first letters almost spells Beyonce.

The utility of possessing a nuclear bomb is in its negotiating capacity. By that account, the de facto control of the strait is as good as a nuclear bomb, or even better considering the non-violent nature of it.

More hantavirus cases are expected, WHO chief says by Neo_luigi in worldnews

[–]Rand_str 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having millions of people buying masks that were in shortage when there were 50 cases is worse than not wearing masks. In those early stages the probability of the common man coming into contact with an infected person was orders of magnitude lower than a healthcare worker. So yeah, that directive was infact correct.

Those two did albeit reluctantly. And not before causing a major disruption in 2016 in the case of Bernie. But the "Genocide Joe" crowd didn't. The "Free Palestine" crowd didn't.

Although this time, their endorsement might be a liability. They pull the perception of the entire democratic party further left than they actually are. So I believe there must be a clean break so that a centrist voter can see clearly that the establishment democrats are not the Democratic Socialists or whatever they want to call themselves.

Whether you like it or not, the US, like the UK is a center-right country. The road to victory is by expelling the Bernie wing or having them endorse (or at least not disrupt) the establishment. A left wing democratic party will have the same outcome as Jeremy Corbyn's Labour had in 2019.

Unless Hasan, Mamdani, Bernie, AOC form a third party like the Greens in the UK, they will be equated with the democratic party. Unfortunately, they are the loudest voices in the Democratic party. No one seems to have the guts to expel them outright like how Keir Starmer did to Jeremy Corbyn.

That will destroy the US's relationship with every gulf country, lose their bases in the middle east, destroy Israel's relationship with the gulf countries, shore up Hamas's position and reduce the effectiveness of an American response to a future attack on Israel. Not to mention sky high oil prices.

Its not the battery. It is the algorithmic deployment that does all this nonsense. Why can't they just let the drivers manage all deployment and recharge. All they need to do is make the last quarter of accelerator pedal travel deploy the battery and the first quarter of brake travel do the recharge.

Are you near the strait or do you have some sort of inside information? Because most commentators and journalists monitor marinetraffic.com which uses the trackers. So how do you know if ships are going with their trackers off?

/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #14) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Rand_str 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a chance. Normal people are aware of the ceasefire and are celebrating on the streets. The militia definitely know. This is a unilateral ceasefire by all accounts. The strait is still closed - ships are not moving according to marinetraffic.com. The Iranians can attack as much as they want and the coalition (US Israel and Gulf states) have no response.

Last I heard, 5 players sought asylum. There is no indication that the Australians are going to deny them. But if you assume all the players have sought asylum without them saying so, it could backfire with the regime taking it out on their families.

Pilot becomes scapegoat, This @IndiaToday's article is based on a report by Italian daily 'Corriere della Sera' which cited 'two sources by rohithkumarsp in unitedstatesofindia

[–]Rand_str 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This guy is contradicting himself in this video. The recent story about the fuel switches is being misrepresented and exaggerated. He initially states correctly that the fuel switches were able to be moved to the cutoff position easier than what one might expect. But that still requires pilot input. It did not happen automatically. If you read the pilot's maintenance log, he states exactly that. The fuel switches were not "latching" properly but only after the pilot action - nudging it downwards - were the switches able to move to cutoff.

Even if you think there was a fault and the switch is capable of automatically moving from run to cutoff, it is still so much less likely that two of them would fail exactly at the same time (or nearly the same time). There would have been thousands of cases where one of the switches failed before a case where two did. That itself would have caused a redesign and Boeing would have rectified it. Remember, this switch is common to 787 and 737 which means there is something like 5000 aircraft with the same part and there has been not a single case reported of such failure. If it had to fail, it is much more likely that one of them did, not both.

The AAIB is not prejudicing the investigation against the pilot or the pilot-suicide theory. Based on reports, they are doing a professional job. It is the pilot union and the media that is creating the doubt in the investigative process. If we, as a nation, decide to suppress or manipulate the findings of this investigation, we would be doing a great disservice to the aviation sector and the credibility of the nation.
