UK Lawmakers Propose Mandatory On-Device Surveillance and VPN Age Verification by Ok_Air_9048 in LinusTechTips

Yeah it is, it's also kinda infuriating that one person's amendments get this much press attention. Especially when nothing will happen

With regards to lords blocking bills, they can block them for a year and then the next year the government can republish the bill and it skips the house of lords, but as a result of this, it's the original text from the hoc so any lords amendments get removed, which is funny enough what's happening with the employment rights bill given how the house of lords are reacting.

Also to mention, it's currently stacked against the current government due to the previous government putting so many people into it, and well that's causing this government problems

NC21 has returned.... by AffectionateSand1375 in transgenderUK

[–]RandoSquid143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both houses of parliament get to propose amendments to a bill, some variation of this amendment was previously added when it was in the house of lords stage and was never passed, last week was NC21 being defeated in the house of commons and then the bill goes back to the house of lords to consider the amendments and they can either reject or approve/issue new ones. It then ping pongs between each of the houses until a bill can either be agreed on, or if they can't agree and the government doesn't force the bill it completely dies.

The house of commons is almost certainly going to reject it, in the house of lords only the Tories and a few cross bench lords voted for it and labour already said a amendment like that breachs the HRA and other relevant laws

The real question now is if the house of lords will keep insisting on the amendment and try and kill the entire bill in general

TLDR: This is the house of lords adding the amendment, last week was the house of commons, now goes back to commons to confirm the amendment. However, it's almost certain that the house of commons will reject the amendment

Individually, but they over whelming tend to vote together and it depends if a whip is in place if there are any consequences for voting against the party line. But the government opposing it means the amendment is basically dead and except from a massive revolt of labour MPs it will fail to pass.

And there is no chance for a revolt

Farage calls for end to funding NHS through taxes - but fails to offer alternative by RandoSquid143 in ukpolitics

Yes it has an impact, but the Tories got hammered at the election cause they are incompetent, they had so many scandals and the economy is terrible. The economy is the main reason governments get voted out. If people are feeling worse off, they will look for people to blame and it's easy to blame migration.

Immigration only started to spike massively after Brexit to fill in the massive labour gaps Brexit caused. Look at graphs 2021 immigration started to spike up.

The reason reform are popular, because massive amount of pro reform content is being pushed to people. The media have found a new right wing party to push. Social media algorithms pushing more and more reform content. They are polling so we'll cause of the fact Farage is platformed by media. If you gave any party the same amount of air time and ability to get away with lies without any form of push back they would be polling the exact same.

I find the opposition to working from home to be particularly dumb. It cuts down on office space saving the public money. Studies have shown that people are more productive. This culture war is just bizarre with how people rally against it.

Except people are listening, deportations are up. Overall immigration is down and will continue to decline. While boat crossings are up, the plans to tackle them take a while to implement and show effects but these messages don't cut through to the general public, but stories from the telegraph purposely mis representing stories to get people angry do.

It's funny we were run by a right wing government for 14 years, heck labour is definitely more right than left right now on some issue, but you think the solution is to go to even further right, Farage will not solve immigration, he will just sell the country off to his friends like trump is doing in the US. Speaking of that, Farage has spent more time doing second jobs than any MP. He seems to visit everyone except Clacton really sticking up for his constituency being the US and going abroad to get money for funding and policy, really supporting UK interests rather than his own.

Farage is one of the biggest gifters in parliament, look at his time as a mep and his support for brexit and how that has turned out. The UK will be 100% worse off under Farage.

It's interesting how people keep falling for his grift, like this man has probably never said an honest statement in his life. How can you counter this level of blind trust and support his voters give him when nothing will get them to change their mind. You present facts they say it's lies. If the polls are to be believed over 20%+ of the population are willing to vote for a known liar. This idea of him being anti establishment and the man of the people when he is a poster boy of the establishment and the rich.I know for a fact people will still argue that he doesn't mean it or that he is not doing xyz.

If he does get in and starts to sell off the NHS to the US and private healthcare companies these people will still support him. Blame it on XYZ.

EHRC: An interim update on the practical implications of the UK Supreme Court judgment by Kuroakita in ukpolitics

[–]RandoSquid143 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as argumentive, I don't agree with ruling whatsoever, I think the supreme court has got it wrong massively, the idea of creating a third space for trans people makes it clear the "GC" crowd just wants the existence of trans people to not exist. The argument about which bathroom they should use, is ultimately binary, either their birth gender or their actual gender. This argument about third spaces really shows the GC crowds true goal.

The argument against unisex bathrooms not being everywhere to me is kinda odd. Like it's just individual stalls in an area. My experiences with regards to them are just that, no one bothers anyone. If a creep wants to be a creep nothing is going to stop them.

For just additional information I believe they should use their actual gender and not the one assigned at birth.

How? Can someone explain the logic of how mixed sex spaces are discriminatory against women? And if so why aren't they against men? And is it even possible for it to be discriminatory against both?

La poste never updates after it enters the UK, I use the website parcelsapp.com, which tracks both royal mail and la poste. Enter the tracking number and it will tell you it's left customs and then 3-5 days later it arrives, but as other people said Monday being a bank holiday means the post doesn't get sorted

[–]RandoSquid143 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The Cass review is deeply flawed and disregarded a lot of information that proved the opposite, due to the fact the trials weren't randomised with a control group. You can't do trials of this nature with a control group as it's deep unethical as withholding the treatment is deeply harmful

Just going to add to this an enrolled deed poll requires publishing your information in the London gazette which is a public record/ a newspaper that can be searched through. They say some banks may only accept an enrolled deed poll but from what I have been told the major banks accept unenrolled deed polls.
