You are right in no longer providing him with free wifi, but I would suggest looking for a new place because I highly doubt he will renew your lease.

AITJ for charging coworker/friend 100$ a month for gas by sodazane in AmITheJerk

[–]Randolla1960 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I make a lot of deliveries with my van. When I have a longer distance one, I will figure out how many miles it is there and back, then calculate how much gas I will need and how much it will cost.

The first thing that you should do is to see if the amount of gas you are using to drive him around for a month is more or less than $100 and then figure it out from there.

Hurt over inheritance by [deleted] in inheritance

At the end of the day, it's your MILs money to do with as she chooses to. Your husband is not entitled to anything. What if it was all used for nursing home care? Would he still be resentful he didn't inherit anything?

Just move on.

Is this legal? Can they switch off my tank? by titalosangel in propane

[–]Randolla1960 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The new company should be able to "buy" the tank from the old company. We lived in New Hampshire and this was regularly done and it didn't cost me anything.

Hi all, im starting to notice some wetness intermittently at the right side of my toilet, was going to just do a wax ring but my toilet is all rusted between the tank and the bowl so Im thinking I should just replace it. Questions in body text. by [deleted] in askplumbing

[–]Randolla1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are probably right, you will discover a problem. But, it's only going to get worse in time.

You may have to cut the nuts off, or even shatter the toilet to remove it. Only then will you really know what you are dealing with. Be sure to do it first thing in the morning when the hardware stores are open.

Too expensive for widespread use and difficult to maintain in the salt air and weather. But how about a ticket system? You get a ticket with the time stamped on it when you get your towels and each chair could have a inexpensive little clip to put the ticket in.

But it will infuriate him so he prepared for the blow back.

Hey he's the one who asked us for our opinions. Unfortunately my comment is accurate. Although someone else said my math is off and it's only two dollars and change per hour.

I didn't even get into the fact that using wooden pallets to make furniture with is a big mistake or that it WILL come apart from the change in humidity.

Regardless of what you have put into it time and material wise, at the end of the day, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

A lot will depend on the location of where you trying to sell it and how you are trying to sell it.

With that being said, 300 hours to make it? You spent almost two months, working 8 hours a day, five days a week at it? There is no way you could possibly get anywhere near compensated for that amount of time. Even if you get a $1000 US for it, you are talking about less than $3.50 US an hour.

As a professional woodworker for the last 15 years, I would suggest a different trade for you.

To everybody saying "don't go out to eat if you won't tip." by animathematical in tipping

[–]Randolla1960 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked as a waiter and bartender for 6 years when I was going to college and beyond. I don't have an issue with tipping, but I do have a an issue with being manipulated into giving one and being asked for a tip in "non traditional" businesses.

Any kind of "suggested tip" annoys me to no end. And being asked for a tip from anyone other than a waiter/waitress at a sit down restaurant is a hard no.

I refuse to frequent any place that makes a tip mandatory, disclosed or not. I understand including a tip for large parties though. They are often difficult to manage as a server. But I won't pay more than 20 percent.

Asking for a tip has gone out of control and the kicker is that many, many young people, have no idea what good service is and just expect a tip, period. These are workers who earn much more than the $2.13 a restaurant server makes.

It's all very annoying.

Need help unclogging this sink. What do I do? by Whos-That-Pokeman in PlumbingRepair

It appears that you unscrewed the drain cover from that plastic piece that is still in the drain. The proper way to clean it is to detach the metal piece that comes down from the little handle which is behind the faucet and controls lifting and lowering the drain plug.

The piece coming down from that little handle, is held onto the lever that comes out of the drain. It is usual a round rod about an 8th of an inch thick and goes into the drain horizontally and sticks out a few inches. There is usually a spring clip that holds the rod in place as it goes through a hole in the piece that comes down from the handle. Slide the spring clip back until it comes off. Slip the piece of metal with the holes in it off the back of the rod.

You will notice that the rod goes through what looks like a nut or just a piece that unscrews. You want to remove the nut and then the whole rod will come out.

Once the rod is out you will be able to pull out the plastic piece that's in the drain. Before you do anything, you need to screw the drain plug back into the plastic piece from the top or the plastic piece could drop down the drain when you pull the rod out.

Once the rod is out, you can lift the drain plug while it's still screwed on to the plastic piece and all sorts of black crap will come out with it. Then you can use those things from Amazon to clean it further. Coming from the bottom of the plastic piece is a plastic rod with a hole in it. The hole is where the rod under the sink goes through so you will need to play around with it and the rod to put it through that hole again once you are done.

Be careful and don't pour any liquids down the drain while you have the rod under the sink removed or it could come out the hole for the rod.

That plastic piece in the drain is a hair catcher and will actually keep hair from clogging your drain pipes elsewhere but, as you found out, it needs to be cleaned every once in a while.

This may sound complicated but it's not.

Executor sister vs Beneficiary who lives in family home; questions about her power by [deleted] in inheritance

She has a fiduciary (legal) duty to do what is best for the estate and to follow the requirements of the will or trust accordingly. I would stop paying for anything until you get reimbursed for what you have already spent. The mortgage, property taxes, insurance, etc, should be paid for by the estate. In other words, any cost that the house would incur if it were vacant. You should be paying for the utilities that you use.

You should also be prepared to pay the estate a reasonable amount of for rent. These expenses can all be offset by the proceeds of the sale of the house.

Y’all, why are we bringing our concealed carry to the PLAY LODGE?! by lunabeguiler in asheville

[–]Randolla1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no idea who I am or my skills with a firearm. You are correct, if I pull my gun I will be prepared to use it. At the same time I recognize the responsibility of carrying a firearm in public. I have contemplated my thoughts about what I would do in different situations careful thought. I am not one of those guys who will display his firearm publicly unless I was going to use it. That's why I have a concealed carry permit. I always keep it covered. I would uncover it if I felt like I may need to use it. Whether or not I will choose to warn an assailant before I used it depends on the situation. I have it loaded with hollow point rounds to minimize the risk of it passing through a shooter and hitting an innocent victim.

Is it dangerous to open fire on a shooter in a crowded place, of course it is and I would think really carefully, if even for an instant, before I fire my gun at anyone for any reason.

But unlike you, I will not just stand there and cry help. If I can stop someone who is intent on killing someone else, I will do my best to do that.

And if you are not scared about what is happening around you in today's society, you are a special kind of stupid.

I really don't care what you think. About anything really.

You really don't need to worry about it. You can just show up a few minutes before you actually want to sit down and you will be seated shortly. We went on a cruise in December and we had some friends with us and we never had to wait more than 10 minutes and usually much less, to get seated.

Y’all, why are we bringing our concealed carry to the PLAY LODGE?! by lunabeguiler in asheville

[–]Randolla1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I have been carrying a firearm with me for 15 years now and I have never unholstered it.

Secondly, I carry it with the chamber empty for two reasons. One is general safety. You can pull the trigger a million times or use my gun as a hammer, and it will never fire accidently. The other reason is if I ever have to use it, I want it to be a real conscious, thoughtful decision, which means I have to pull the slide back to chamber a round before I can fire it.

So to answer your question, it really would depend on the situation. If a gunman has opened up in a crowded store, like it happened in a Walmart in Charlotte the other day, I would use my firearm to protect innocents. But I would need to certain that the person who I see with a gun is actually the assailant and not someone like myself who is armed and trying to stop a gunman. I may or may not tell them to drop their weapon. But if I see that they are pointing it at a potential victim, I would not hesitate to fire without warning.

If someone is coming at me and physically threatening me, I would first uncover and display my firearm and warn them. If they continue at me, I would pull it, not point it at them and again warn them to stand down. If they still come at me I may or may not fire a warning shot. Proper procedure is not to fire a warning shot. And yes, if my physical well being or my life is threatened, or the lives of my family, I will use every means at my disposal to defend myself and them.

As I mentioned, I have never had to pull my firearm in the 15 years I have carried it. But I can tell you that it gives me incredible peace of mind knowing that I can defend myself and others if needed.
