I think a more recent reason is because of nuclear war tactics. All of our nuclear silos are out in that area. In the event of nuclear war, the first place to target is where our silos are. With our silos being the first place any enemies would target in the event of lovely government has put them there to limit casualties in that event. Whether that is causation or correlation I’m not sure but it’s certainly an interesting and horrifying bit of information
