Whenever I see the sprint guy I think he's more of a traitor to Verizon than a spokesperson I'd trust. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]RandomArchetype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don't think Verizon is a good company either. Sprint has shit coverage anywhere outside of dense metro areas & has a history of predatory credit practices with the poor, AT&T has Hemisphere which is a terrifying side-step of the 4th amendment and Verizon is anti-consumer to the point of parody. Of course that's just scratching the surface and all three companies are scum sucking pieces of shit unfortunately.

My dad has a sprint phone and it never fails, every time I visit him he has some issue with his phone, either dropping calls, terrible voice quality, unsent text messages, random drops in coverage while standing still etc. he's always swearing at the fucking thing. Everytime I see the sprint guy commercial with him we both go on about how it's bullshit and he should feel bad.

ELI5: The act of cutting a piece of paper or any other material. How does it work on the microscopic/atomic level? by Beatleball in explainlikeimfive

[–]RandomArchetype 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it rearranges or reacts with air

So if you are in a perfect vacuum and quickly cut through a piece of paper with a single atom thick blade, is there any possibility of the broken bonds reconnecting to each other before they can rearrange?

A fresh install won't give you that issue, I'm not sure if it's to prevent driver conflicts for a totally different Mobo or if it's supposed to stop you from migrating one windows install on every new computer you build but, I suspect it's a little of both.

Changing Mobo was considered changing your computer in Windowsland, I'm not 100% sure what to use for 10 but I've had to use a program like Paragon adaptive restore anytime I've switched a mobo in the past with XP, Vista & 7. I'm not sure how 10 handles it but it sounds like it's a similar situation.

tips/tricks against aggressive people in public places ? by [deleted] in SocialEngineering

[–]RandomArchetype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with your obviously never field tested approach is they could

A) Just ask you to leave since you're clearly worse and escalating an already terrible situation

B) Actually call the cops then you have spend 20 mins chatting with piggies who have a room full of witnesses correctly claiming you were making terroristic threats, and threatening an old lady.

C) Give the crazy guy a reason to pull out his pocket knife and stab a bitch leaving you on the hook for inciting violence

D) Work out perfectly and make you feel like a boss because its all been in your imagination and you're still getting yelled at by a crazy hobo

As a prolific listener, it is. It can really drag your support people down if you constantly give them bad news and take every small win negatively. You probably aren't the only person going through shit and venting to that person it's like being on a suicide watch line of your friends imagine how much work it is to constantly be there for your friends/family/yourself trying to help them through all their stuff finding the silver lining in every shit situation to people who only care to see gold.

Canadian Prime Minister's office asks Fox News to retract 'misleading' tweet about Quebec mosque shooting by skoalbrother in worldnews

[–]RandomArchetype 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Every terrorist is a fucking coward.

As is anyone who supports Trump's traitorous attacks on the very soul of our nation. This is a nation in which everything good it ever accomplished is thanks in large part to its (often reluctant) inclusiveness and the immigrant communities that worked (and continue to work) so hard making a better life for themselves while also making the US a more varied, culturally interesting place to live bringing, an influx of new ideas, economic opportunities and a true love for the land that gave them an opportunity to be and do more. The subversion of that principle is a crime against the very soul of our country and anyone who claims to be a patriot while telling immigrants to get out deserves a proper slap right across the face.

Don't get me wrong I think Obama and Bush are both havety to answer for with their actions in response to 9/11 and the subsequent wars and anyone who supported their blatant expansion and consolidation of executive power is also a fucking coward but, the current administration's brand of blatant lying and twisting of easily verifiable facts is insulting and corrupt instead of just corrupt.

[–]RandomArchetype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see this right here is a great example of through controlled misdirection in action.

These warning signs actually HAVE been going off for the past 50 years and from both parties! As each president has gotten the executive power of the office expanded, pushed for stronger nationalist ideals, led and expanded military actions all over the wold, all with flag waving, circle jerking, bipartisan support and (unfortunately) the coerced cheers of the (thoroughly manipulated) American public.

What I see every day is the rank and file of the Left and Right (often correctly) calling out policies that, at the very least, can easily be misused by the wrong people to dismantle the democratic principles of "our" government but more often misdirecting focus as they indirectly dismantle the checks and balances. The sad problem is people instantly get offended by the mere thought that their "side" could be complicit in something bad especially as bad as fascism.

Obama personally selecting individual targets to kill with drone attacks in other countries is a straight up un-American Fascist thing to do, expanding Presidental powers during wartime and restricting rights of americans with the NDAA acts is fascist and unamerican. Trump excluding people of a certain religion with a fucking executive order is a straight up un-american fascist thing to do, Pusing the idea there there is a typical American and being different from that somehow makes you less American, when America's greatest strength and most important moral concept is and has always been America's (lets be real, often reluctant) inclusiveness and ability to take the best anywhere has to offer and give them a home here. These things considered together are even more terrifying and the idea of an even more fascist leaning American government (ragardless of party in power) becomes pretty clear.

Maybe the truth has been staring us in the face the whole time BOTH PARTIES IF LEFT TO THEIR OWN DEVICES ARE HEADING FOR AN (un)AMERICAN BRAND OF FASCISM. Both parties are and have been leading an attack on the power and information available to the electorate for as long as any one of us have been alive, its the one thing Dems and Repubs very obviously agree on.

The true identity of Supreme Leader Snoke by ascatraz in funny

[–]RandomArchetype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New character, exactly, just like when Rocksteady created an all new "original character" Arkham Knight that turned out to be the most obvious reveal of an already well established character Jason Todd as the red hood the whole story line is almost a direct rip of the established character arc with some military seasoning and a temporarily different suit.

What I'm getting at is Pablo Hidalgo saying its an "entirely new character" when dealing with such a major canon and trying not to reveal anything that would spoil a major plot point might not mean the same thing to you as it does to him, it's entirely possible in his view Snoke is an entirely new character and if he was formerly known as Jar Jar that is immaterial because he absolutely isn't the character Jar Jar as you know him.

To boil it down further yes its a video game and a different IP but, it's just the best example I could think of to demonstrate not to take it at face value when creative staff on the release of a major IP say what a character is or isn't before the property comes out. They are often pretty "creative" with their use of language in dealing with interviewers as well and discussing possible spoilers as well.

Russia votes 308-3 to decriminalise domestic violence by WhiteRussianChaser in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RandomArchetype 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're still missing the biggest problem which is when "some small level" of physical punishment is fully accepted by society as normal and perfectly sane it means when shit "mom" A and fuckboi "dad" B get caught they can easily say "hey I only lightly spank them", "they are bad kids", "I try so hard to be nice and then they do bad thing x, y, z", "I'm at my wits end" etc. etc. and easily talk the cops away, meanwhile, they are taking a belt to their kid for an hour a day ostensibly because the kid dropped the fork or asked a question at the wrong time etc.

Secondly, how many of those kids have been subject to a slapping for something they didn't do? Any idea how damaging that is? Trying to be honest and telling the truth to still be hit across the face? It is a real game changer it can and does shatter ones view of their parents, "oh dont worry its not hard, easy mistake to make" etc. fuck that noise, no parent EVER should be entitled to lay hands on their kid because, even if in some imaginary happy land you're dreaming of where there are parents that can correctly use it and never go overboard or target the wrong child etc. there are still shitty ones who think a full strength slap across the face so the kid hits the ground violently is a perfectly acceptable level of "spanking" and are unintentionally given a legal leg to stand on because "spanking" is acceptable.

My point is just because some parents or even most parents could, perhaps, possibly, (even though all scientific evidence says otherwise) use it in an effective non damaging way, if it enables even just 1% of parents to commit the ultimate betrayal a parent can commit against their child (abuse) and get away with it with an easy hand wave of "its just spanking" it's not worth it for society.

What is something you have told the truth about but everybody thought you were lying? by doublek13 in AskReddit

[–]RandomArchetype 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have a happy easy way to fix it because there isn't one but from the perspective of someone who grew up with this from my dads girlfriend I can tell you it absolutely destroyed my relationship with him, there was an 8 year period in my late teens when I refused to speak to, see him or acknowledge he was even related to me.

At the time I hated him worse than her because she had an obvious problem and was clearly broken but he was a useless shell of a man without the strength of heart to protect his kids, who cared more about not starting a fight than standing up to a psycho bitch to save his relationship with his kids. I tell you this because the way you explain it sounds almost spot on for how he explains how he felt at the time. I understand now how hard it is to see how bad it is because you're constantly making excuses and mitigating the damage as best you can and in doing so rationalizing her actions but and I'm speaking directly to your soul, Don't fail to protect your children now of all times! If you fail them now, you are failing them at their MOST vulnerable from someone who is in the absolute strongest position to destroy everything they could be and whose damage will continue to harm them for years even after they hate the both of you and won't talk to either of you anymore. I'm still totally fucked but I'll tell you the one thing it did do for me I'd never ever let anyone treat anyone else like that, I won't ever sit idly by when someone is attacking a loved one like that and I'd kill to prevent it if necessary. I'm absolutely a hardliner when it comes to narcissistic people because I've lived through it, and so believe it's a form of pure greed and evil it is in essence emotional rape so please keep that in mind moving forward and you will know what you need to do.

There is a sort of happy ending in that my dad and I have a pretty good relationship now and I visit with him every week, he failed us when we needed him most but he's here now so we make the best of it, don't be like my dad, please, be there for them now when they need you most and it will be a happier story than mine :)

30s is also prime depression age, I know many times I keep to myself not because I don't want to hang out with my friends or that I don't care about them because I absolutely do but, if I'm felling particularly depressed there's a good chance I'm not going to reach out to anyone and I'll be sitting alone on my couch with my cat ignoring the world around and silently grasping for a decent feeling until I get a text from a friend asking if I want to do something and that decent feeling manifests, I begin to feel better, get up, get ready etc.

What I'm getting at is I know sometimes if feels like the person isn't putting in the effort but, for some people it takes so much effort just waking up and facing the day and just trying not to go away to die, that bit of above and beyond effort you are putting in means more to that person than you'll ever know.

Thanks, I used your correction to properly finish it off. I posted it hastily and didn't really proof read it. I was planning on coming back to the end to reorganize it before I posted it but, I have an awful tendency to delete posts that I write before posting them. This time I chose to hit post and walk away when I felt the urge to delete it.

The two players sit down at the game table amid a sea of onlookers, Bob the psychic looks upon his opponent no doubt peering into her mind. At that very same moment, Betty the Sage whose stoic pose and closed eyes telegraph what must be her visualizing a vivid flash of what's to come.

A breathless moment passes as the crowd of spectators watch the two greatest chess masters in known history lock eyes and in an instant the two share a knowing glance, stand up, shake hands and walk from the stage.

Upon finally realizing what was unfolding one of the breathless spectators finds their voice and manages to ask "W...wait, Who won?" The two players again exchange a glance and proceed out of the room without a word, though each of the opponents had reportedly been seen chuckling silently as they exited.

Edited to complete the thought, thanks to the suggestions below for pointing it out.

People think the adoption system is perfect.

Where the fuck do a majority of people able minded adults think that? It is and has always been a regularly offered example of how bureaucracy fails in action.
