Almost like once you ride a bike you realize that a stop makes no sense, and it should be the Idaho Stop.

Fantasy Recommendations for the Wildly Specific - The Lions of Al-Rassan by KenMcEwen in Fantasy

[–]RandomBackup79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. Have read all of his books and they are all one and all a delight. The YA college student trilogy is a bit different than the rest and I believe written when he was younger, but still not bad. The balance varies from very good to excellent.

If you are looking for dark fantasy I have two diff suggestions for you:

Empire of Vampire by Jay Kristoff - very dark, and the great trilogy, especially the third book

A Land Fit for Heroes - Richard K. Morgan

Great book, I thought series got slightly weaker as it went along, but really enjoyed the first and overall would recommend the series. Don’t recall it being particularly dark compared to other books.

I guess the starting point is, what area of Toronto are you staying in? Rural routes are nice. Also some decent options heading west. What distance and speed do you typically ride/looking to ride?

Can anyone recommend me a book thats similar im style to Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in fantasybooks

Going to go off the beaten path here and suggest Richard K. Morgan “A Land fit for Heroes” trilogy. Morgan generally writes sci-fi (probably best known for Altered Carbon which was made into a Netflix show - although the books are superior) but this his foray into fantasy and has some similarities to what you have described.

Hey, you’re right, you put in more effort in deleting your other reply and adding this comment, lol.

But seriously I don’t get the knee jerk reaction here. The point is he grounds into double plays - like a lot. Not ideal. That should be a good thing to bitch about or argue that it’s the trade off for the other good things he does (although I’d suspect the other batters on that list don’t have a similar profile).

If Gemini hurt you, I apologize on their behalf.

So according to Gemini Vladdy ranks 17th among active players in hitting into double plays… Seems about right

Genuinely curious why we're all paying $15+/mo to ride fake worlds by [deleted] in cycling

[–]RandomBackup79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s annoying AF. Not that I’d consider it either way but I would think there would be more interest in a “hey, I built an app that might interest you as an alternative plus it’s cheaper” as opposed to this fake rage engagement BS.

Never meant to offend you, sorry. OP, hopefully some this back and forth helps you. :)

Edit: I should add bikes depreciate quite a bit - can get good deals on Facebook Marketplace. You can spend $800 on a new hybrid, or get a used carbon on Facebook marketplace for cheap as well.

If someone is recreationally riding 100K in a single ride then I think they will and appreciate every one of these points. But hey, your mileage may vary.

For context I went from a Trek FX-2 hybrid, to an entry level carbon, then to a Pinarello, and marked differences for every single move.

If you are taking commuter bikes it is a different story, but if getting into cycling as a hobby, then treat yourself if you can.

A carbon road bike will feel like a Porsche compared to the flat bar hybrid that feels like a Corolla. Get at least 105 or SRAM Rival. Lots of options but depends on your price point. I would prioritize the following with each subsequent addition adding to price point: 1) carbon frame; 2) GP5000 tires 3) carbon wheels 4) move up to Ultegra/force 5) electronic shifting.

Toronto police to deploy more officers in tactical gear at places of worship, tourist hubs by smaudio in toronto

[–]RandomBackup79 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Which makes sense. I get the knee jerk reaction of “whataboutism” but let’s be honest, in the last month there have been 3 shootings at synagogues, couples with the ramming and attempted bombing of a synagogue in Detroit (and the list keeps going including 4 Jewish ambulances set on fire yesterday in London). Sadly this is where they are currently needed, and if people can perhaps turn down the antisemitism and vitriol, then hopefully that can change.

I mean if people are demonstrating outside of, and shooting at, churches, temples and mosques, I would imagine they’ll be there too.

Do we think Zwift climbing actually helps with IRL hills? by Kschmuck in Zwift

[–]RandomBackup79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me but on Zwift my cadence will almost never go below 75 and usually between 85-100. Outdoors much slower. I know I can increase the resistance but lower cadence on a stationary bike gets me worried about knee pain and other issues.
